Game Thread W1 - Indianapolis V NY Giants (1 Viewer)

The Colts won, but didn't look very good to me. I see lots of potential in the Giants, they just needed to do the little things better.

Come on DJ, quit playing down every god thing the Colts do. They won a highly publicized "big" road game against a strong team in the "best conference" in the league.Yes, they need to work on the running game. But any team who prescribes to the Gians mentality of making Mnning beat you with the passing game, is in for a similar outcome. In the regular season...

:goodposting: Still, when you play so-so against a potential Superbowl team and still get the win, that does say something about your team. Run defense is going to be a real concern for them, though.

I'm more concerned about the run D than the run O. I think the run O will come around - but the run D was awful. They were fortunate to win tonight - I'm sorry.

The NFL needs to do something with the officiating. I'm getting sick of watching good games come into question because of a clear screw-up on the refs part, time after time after time after..... I just shake my head at it all, really.

It takes away from the games, bigtime.

Perhaps they should explore the time-honored solution to difficult rules situations: the do-over.

Whatever that means. Atleast in Baseball you don't have to worry about getting the homerun ball called back by bull**** calls.

No, you get a guy hitting 630 home runs because he gets a strike zone that is 12"x12". Now that makes for good officiating!

Oh, awright, since you want to be serious about it:(1) Booth officials should be able to override poor calls on the field at all times--even "judgment calls" that can't be challenged under the current rules.(2) Officials should be allowed to make a "no-call" on a play, explictly asking for the opportunity to review and/or have the booth officials issue a ruling.#2 would slow the game down some, but after the playoffs last year maybe it'd be worth it.

I'm all for it.

I don't know if you watched any of the US Open, but that is exactly what they have done in tennis. Would be real interesting to see if it translated.

whew. That was a BS pass int call. So was the "crack block" one. GB ref kickbacks
Madden said that the "crack block" call was legit. The offense pass int clearly was a terrible call.
I don't think Madden said that "crack block" call was legit and if he did he was wrong. The defensive player lowered his head and Burgess did as well. It was a helmet to helmet hit at about ground level. The Giants played a sloppy game but those two calls were drive killing and (possibly) game turning. It's really a shame that the officiating in the NFL can sully what should have been a great game.

Yes, he did say so. He defended that call - I'm 100% positive of that. Plus, they got deep into Colts territory after that play on a big Burress catch, THEN they self-destructed on the drive - so unlike the PI call, it didn't affect the final outcome.

I thought I remembered Madden discussing "crack back" blocks in general after that call rather than specifically to the play, but no matter. The call was awful whether or not Madden said so. No doubt the Giants self distructed on many drives and stopped themselves with sloppy play and put themselves in the position to have the game hinge on a (really) bad call. The fact is, with the Giants driving to go ahead late in the 4th quarter that is just what happened and it taints the result of a great matchup with two very good teams.Officiating is the black eye on this great sport.
