Game Thread W3 - Jacksonville V Denver (1 Viewer)

WOO!!! FUMBLE JAX, DENVER RECOVERS!Edit: Jack Del Rio demonstrates just how smart it is to keep running your short-yardage back all day long, even when he's not effective. Sometimes a change of pace is a good thing.
I agree a change of pace is a good thing, but in order for the other stuff to be a change of pace, you have to run the main rb in there sometimes.. lol which until today hadnt happened.. so running henry was more like the change of pace
Henry was averaging 24.5 carries per game. You saying Denver's not using him enough?
OMG how many goal line carries before the one this week has henry had? are you not paying attention to the conversation?? what does the number of carries he has have to do with goal line attempts?

Because the only people who differentiate between carries like that are fantasy footballers. NFL coaches just don't think like that. If Shanny has other RBs he trusts in that situation, and Henry's getting a lot of wear, why not use them?Edit: You make it sounds like Henry is the New York Strip and that Bell/Sapp are the Ground Hamburger of goal-line carries. That's simply not the case- all three have proven their mettle in short-yardage situations.

What in the hell does this have to do with the game??\This is exactly what was discussed about cleaning up the Pool. You all want to discuss stats, go somewhere else. Let's discuss the game here....

Whoever is calling the plays in JAX should be fired tomorrow. How they can implode from the friggin one yard line multiple times is amazing.

MJD up the middle = meet Sam Adams who out weighs you by about 200 lbs. This should be a good team when Del Rio, Tice and whoever the OC is are looking for college coaching jobs.

In the past he has ALWAYS run his main rb near the goal line, mike anderson, portis, davis.. why isnt henry getting the love? ? why is he outsmarting himself this year?
Respectfully, no he hasn't.
how many tds did terrell davis have every year? how about portis? how about mike anderson? hmm davis 13/15/21 portis 15/14anderson 15/12 hmm thats all in the last 10 years, sounds like some main rbs are gettin some gl love to me??

QUOTE(hardcoredx)...Oh BTW, SSOG is a idiot and should refrain from posting.I agree, and I was discussing the game.. and the previous games and the bad coaching calls that have taken place in my opinion.. why dont you just pretend my posts arent there and I will do the same, your obviously got your head so far up shannys back side you cant see the light of day..

Embarrassing loss for Denver. If there were any questions about whether they were lucky to win their first two, those have been answered.

Good game to Jax.

Some baffling decisions and play-calling on both sides. Denver blowing 2 timeouts (that resulted in, frankly, uninspired play calls at the goal line) and going for it on 4th in 2 situations that I personally think they shouldn't have definitely hurt. But the Jags and their issues at the goal line were equally weird.

Next week is looming large for the Broncos.

Shanny doesn't get outcoached many games but he did this afternoon...
Ugh, I think both coaches outcoached themselves. Between that 4th-and-6 and the 3rd down spike, I doubt either will be mentioning this game on their resumes if they're ever looking for another job.My final impressions of the game:*Denver's offensive line got DOMINATED at the point of attack. All discussions of who would be getting the carries aside, there wasn't much of anything open all day, regardless of who was getting the ball.*Denver's CBs looked very good, and the DLine was awesome, but those LBs and Safeties should all be ashamed when they cash their game checks from this week.*Turns out that Brandon Marshall kid is pretty good.*Turns out Selvin Young is a rookie after all. After an extremely heads up play a couple of weeks ago batting a fumble out of bounds, he made an idiotic play trying to fend off would-be-tacklers... with the arm holding the ball.

MJD is actually pretty bulky, but otherwise, :D

GG Denver fans.
2-1 and leading the division after 3 games? Somehow, I think I'll be able to get to sleep tonight.
You guys could just as easily be 0-3 and you know it, I would be worried. Then again I am a Dolphin fan so I don't even get to be worried.
We could easily be 3-0, but we could have also easily blown out Oak and Buf by 20 points each. Everyone focuses on the luck involved in the final play of each of those games (all of which went in Denver's favor), while conveniently forgetting about all of the luck on every play leading up to that (most of which went against Denver).

He got outcoached, but Shanny did the dumbest thing I think I've ever seen him do. Two timeouts, and then you call a QB sneak with a yard and a half to go on fourth down? That was incredibly stupid. It is panic time in Denver. You have beaten two weak teams at the buzzer. Then you lose to a relatively weak Jacksonville team, and you were at home. If I was a Bronco fan I would be very worried. The Jags just showed how to beat the Broncos. The Broncos D is terrific against the pass, but they are weak versus the run. I'd run. Then I would run some more. Then I'd probably do some more running.

If you were to tell me before the game that the Jags would keep Denver's offense in-check in this game, I would have to say that you were crazy. I fully expected the Broncos to run all over the Jags today. Good win.

Denver can't stop the run. Teams will run on them all year long.

Denver's Offensive-Line is a sad shadow of its former self. They got dominated by that Jaguars defensive line today.

Denver should only be permitted to draft offensive linemen and linebackers in next year's draft. Don't whine, oh, boohoo, "all the offensive linemen at the combine weigh over 300 pounds and we like to draft nimble, limber linemen." Celebrate it. Say, "all of these guys who I can draft are all over 300 pounds! Super! We need some of those guys! Here are a bunch of them! All in the same place in the RCA dome! Let's draft five of them this year! There's a guy over there that looks bigger than my left pinkie! Let's draft him! Maybe Marcus Stroud won't stomp all over this guy and eat him like he did all our other guys in that one game last September."

Lynch should retire. He can't play the position anymore. He's slower than still.

Javon Walker got hit hard on one play in the first half on a pass over the middle and then didn't do anything after that. I hope he wasn't injured. He certainly didn't play football like he was interested in it today.

41 total offensive plays for Denver / 67 total offensive plays for Jax

Denver had 18 offensive plays in the first half. Jax had an 18-play touchdown drive in the first half.

The first half reminded me of a one-sided high school football game. That 18 play, 12 minute drive in the first quarter really set the stage for the rest of the game.

The jags ran 37 times for 4.2 yards per carry. Denver ran 18 times for 2.6 yards per carry.

The playcalling was as predictable as the sunrise.

So, after today's game, do we expect Greg Jones to be the primary GL back in JAX? Will MJD be phased out even more, as Taylor averaged nearly 5.0YPC? MJD was barely involved in the passing game, failed at the GL, and was awful running.

I actually offered a trade for MJD (yes me - offered D Ward) in my dynasty league thinking he was actually a buy low candidate, fortunately the offer was rejected, and I think I'm better off for it.

Do you think this might be a bit of an overreaction? Denver's been running the ball pretty well the past couple of games and the past couple of years.

Was he on the field most of the game or did he come out after the hit?

Re-reading this, I realize that it probably comes off as snarky and haughty, and I didn't mean for it to come off that way. Losing absolutely blows, but Denver's still 2-1 and leading the AFC West, their primary competition seems to be unraveling, and the MVP candidate in their division looks as mortal as one man can look. I'm not happy that they lost, but overall, I'm satisfied with the way the season has unfolded to this point. I've always thought that Denver was a near lock for the playoffs, and to this point I feel that hasn't changed any. How they do once they get there is going to have more to do with how they play 3 months from now than how they play today, and as much turnover as there's been on this team recently, I expect them to only improve as the season wears on. Cutler will get more seasoned, the defense will get more proficient in Bates' schemes, etc.

This honestly makes me question whether you watched the game. Not like a "OMG N00b u must b stoopid if u disagree with me" sort of way, but in a "seriously, did you even watch the game?"I mean, perhaps the reason Lynch was so slow is because he was standing on the sideline with an injury all game? The rest of it is pretty dumb, too, but that one really stood out to me.
captbly said:
For those that watched...why was walker limited so much? did JAX D just really play him tight?
Denver didn't run many offensive plays, and the plays they did run were all to Marshall who started out the game playing off the charts. Walker didn't seem any more or less covered than usual, Denver was just looking the other way.

Seriously, I wouldn't recommend listening to him. I honestly question whether he saw the game. I don't remember anything about any big hit on Walker in the first half, and no comment was made in the thread so I don't think anyone else noticed it, either, and Walker didn't play a single snap all game as if he were hurt or intimidated. In short, I have no blessed idea what he's talking about. Does anyone else?

Sure, but as a fellow Broncos fan, I am worried about this team. They should not be struggling to win games over Buffalo and Oakland (regardless of the disparity in yardage, they had to pull both wins out at the end), and losing to the Jags at home today was a serious blown opportunity, what with every other team in the division sitting at 1-2. They had a tremendous opportunity to get to 3-0, and they blew it. With the exception of the '05 team that went to the AFCCG, this Broncos team looks like every other Broncos team this decade..good enough to win 9 or 10 games, but a probable first round playoff loser. This is getting old.
