Game Thread W3 - Jacksonville V Denver (2 Viewers)

Dumerville just got held, blew past the tackle anyway, blew up Garrard, and forced the fumble. That's his 4th sack through 3 games. How the hell did this kid last until the 4th round?

Is this a fumble or will it get overturned? I hate not being able to watch Bronco games!
Looked like a fumble to me, but there wasn't enough evidence either way to do anything.Announcers finally told us why Lynch is on the sidelines. Apparently he pulled his groin.
I never understood that.. I pull my groin all the time and have never missed any time because of it..

Del Rio made as bonehead a mistake as you can make, but  at all the people in this thread calling for his head. He's winning by 10 at halftime on the road against a 2-0 with the number 1 offense and the number 1 defense in the league. This might set a record for poor timing.
Denver has the #1 offense? They have barely squeeked by all their games so far this year.
Yes, and the gap was pretty wide between #1 and #2. Before today, of course. Jaguars looking good here.
Denvers offense is better than NE's and the Colts?

When Dumerville came out of college, everyone talked about how he was 5'10" with the wingspan of a guy who was 6'8". I never really understood that, but after seeing him in action, I do. If you don't understand why long arms are useful for a DE, watch Dumerville play sometime.

In terms of yards they were.Brandon Marshall looking like a man among boys out there.

Sorry joining late here.....did something happen to Walker ? Or is he just getting shut down ?
He's not getting shut down, Denver just hasn't run many offensive plays and Marshall is going into Beast Mode, so he's obviously getting it a lot.

Denver's first five picks in 2006 turned into the following:

1 11 Jay Cutler QB Vanderbilt

2 47 Traded for Javon Walker

2 61 Tony Scheffler TE Western Michigan

4 119 Brandon Marshall WR Central Florida

4 126 Elvis Dumervil DE Louisville

hat's pretty insane. This Denver team is going to be really good for a long time.

I'm generally not one to question Mike Shanahan, since the results pretty much speak for themselves, but... running Selvin Young up the middle on 3rd and 2? Now you're just outsmarting yourself.

That's a horrible spot, and of course Denver is out of timeouts to challenge it. Turnover on downs.

Edit: And again, a QB sneak with just over a yard to go? I don't know what gets into Shanahan in the red zone. It's getting almost Linehanesque.

What's the story with all the inside-the-5 runs on 3rd-and-more-than-1 this season?

It doesn't seem to be working often enough to be called so often, no?

How did Denver burn their last 2 timeouts, there, too?

WTF is going on with Henry? First and goal first time they scored and he doesn't get a carry. Now S. Young is getting the GL looks.

Henry's value takes a MAJOR hit if he doesn't get the GL love.

That's what they burned their second time out on?????? God....Damn......It

no? really? maybe he should try out henry down there? and not just one attempt keep giving it to him down there until they score.. bet that would work

Great play call. That's all I heard last week. Great play call.

This has been discussed at great length last week.

I know it is easy to question things, but when your team is struggling, you take the points. Big mistake.

Wow, I was just about to praise the LBs for finally making a good play, but it turns out it was just Champ Bailey somehow appearing in the middle of the field to make a game-saving tackle. It shows how bad the LBs are playing that they were that out of position, but it also illustrates how Champ Bailey's instincts are the best in the entire NFL.

Yeah, I'm a Henry owner so I will throw that out up front. But as a football fan, what the hell is wrong with Skeletor? Why would he not give the rock to one of the NFL's leading rushers there twice as opposed to a shotgun handoff to the backup RB and then a QB sneak? Unreal.

ya it was just as smart last week, only difference is last week they got lucky...

If he'd called Sapp or Bell's number, I wouldn't be questioning it. Selvin Young is like Tatum Bell 2.0, though. This isn't second-guessing, this is FIRST-guessing. I said before the snap that they better not run him up the middle.

Disagreed. It's a 2 score game. After the FG, it's still a 2-score game, while a TD brings it within 1. Even if you fail, they're pinned back inside their 5, which gives you a great chance of getting the ball back in great field position (which is what happened).

How is it lucky when designated short yardage RBs convert short yardage situations? Or unlucky when they designated long-yardage back doesn't? There's a reason these people have earned those roles.

If i am not mistaken, I think I pointed this out last week... and everyone said I was nuts.. its a lot different when it dont work, but its still bad play calling whether it works or not..

He holds the all time single season sack record in NCAA (I believe Terrell Suggs held it prior). No reason whatsoever why this guy was not drafted higher. I was shocked after watching him maul people in college. Just goes to show how in love scouts are with measurables. Like anyone every asks what LTs 40 yd dash time is.....

SSOG, it pains me as you well know, but

DANG! Marshall should have had a HUGE catch there, but he couldn't quite hang on.

Stokley comes in and converts on the next play, though.

hmm when was anyone other then henry designated a short yardage back? if they did I missed it, seems to me hes taking the ball out of his best backs hand at the most important time.. but then what do I know, I have only been watching football for 30 years

Calling a Marion Barber rush up the middle on 3rd-and-1 is a good call, whether it works or not. Calling a Tatum Bell rush up the middle in 3rd-and-1 is a bad call, whether it works or not. In this instance, Mike Bell and Cecil Sapp are the guys playing the role of Marion Barber, and Selvin Young is playing the role of Tatum Bell.

Mathis = Shutdown Corner (Walker = 1/4/0)
No, Brandon Marshall is a shutdown corner. He's the one keeping the ball out of Walker's hands, because he's just playing so well.

But then, what does Mike Shanahan know? He's only been coaching football for 30 years. :lmao:

well I bet if I was calling the plays they would have scored 2 rushing tds today =P Its amazing how well running your best rb right up the gut works around the goal line..

So THAT'S where Stokley got off to. Drew the interference and made the catch, anyway.
