Game Thread W5 - New England V Denver (1 Viewer)

You have to touch the ball first for that condition to apply. Note the word "and".
Ah, I read that as after the KICKER had touched the ball, not the defender. Either way, it's ludicrous. Everyone who watched that play knows that the Broncos player was doing his best to avoid the kicker, barely brushed the kicker, and the kicker flopped egregiously. If the rulebook says that's a penalty, the rulebook needs to be changed.Welcome back Eddie Royal and Brandon Marshall. To paraphrase a very wise scholar of the game... you are who we thought you were. You are who we thought you were!
I disagree. Don't touch the kickers leg while he has both feet off the ground.

Enough with the whining. The refs will call that penalty every single time.

The ref can obviously see into the future -- he threw the flag before the penalty was committed.
Yeah, we've had our fair share of calls go with us - but this call was completely and utterly ridiculous and really shows how refs make up afterwards what they threw the falg for.

I thought the taunting penalty was pretty weak.

But just because their was a perceived penalty at Time A (later waived off) doesn't mean there can't be an actual penalty at Time B. So although the seeing into the future stuff is funny, it's not a serious objection to the taunting call.

No, the flag was out before he did that. The GD refs had to save face. Watch the replay.
Announcers said there were 2 flags on the play. He was throwing his flag for pass int. which was picked up for the tipped ball. The 2nd flag was thrown for taunting.

Brady just looks awful, and I mean awful tonight. He cannot hit a wide open man to save his life. He's had plenty of time to throw the ball, too.

Phantom flag there.
He didn't get flagged for the hit (which was borderline), he got flagged for standing over Royal after the hit and taunting.
:nerd: The flag came out before he taunted Royal.
So? What does it matter when the flag came out? If it's a penalty, it's a penalty. If the ref threw the flag because he thought it was a late hit, but then was informed that the ball was tipped and Royal was fair game, is it then against the rules for the ref to call a different penalty that actually happened? I mean, the New England defender *DID* taunt Royal. It's quite clear on replay. There's nothing in the rules that says that's only a penalty if the ref hasn't already thrown his flag.

I'm extremely disappointed in the New England offensive playcalling. What on Gods green earth are we calling? Ineffective runs on 1st and 2nd down... We're making way too much of an effort of protecting Vollmer. For Gods sake there's a football game that we're on our way to lose if this awful playcalling continues!!!

I'd like to see a film breakdown of Brady's motion before and after the knee injury. If his timing was very dependent on a good stride before, adapting to that may explain his struggles with timing this season. More worrisome, that may not bode well for his chances of getting it together any time soon.

Because a flag cannot be on something that happened after the referee threw the flag. :nerd: :P Ugh, that missed tackle on that last play could be a killer, as Morris then went for 18 yards.

And why did they throw to Gaffney on that last 3rd down? Marshall and Royal are finally making plays, but you throw to neither on a huge 3rd down?

Denver has 44 passes vs. 21 rushes. Raise your hand if you saw this coming.

Make that 45 passes.

I would just like to state that I hate Sudden Death OT.

I want Denver to win this one, but I still hate the system.

If Jason Elam were still in town, New England would have forfeited already. With Matt Prater... not so much.
