Garrett Wolfe (1 Viewer)

I looked at Wolfe as a deep sleeper before the preseason- i liked him in college and dont have a lot of faith in the long term prospects of Benson. But seeing him struggle against 2nd and 3rd team defenses in the preseason, i only ended up rostering him in 1 of my leagues. There are some things you just cant teach- and there is usually some combination of them that allow a player to survive (much less excel) in the NFL. I just havent seen any of those combinations in Wolfe. He has great vision but not enough strength to break the arm tackles that accompany almost every run. He has great speed but not great enough to create cant miss missmatches with todays LBs and safeties, and Peterson has better hands. He has good moves in the open field but he isnt gonna break any ankles.

Bottom line- Wolfe could find a career being the next Kevin Faulk/Adrian Peterson (the elder), but he isnt even there yet. Peterson is a WAY stronger choice if Benson cant go at this point. If Benson goes down Wolfe will see the change of pace/3rd down work Peterson will see now. That being said, a year of getting used to NFL speed and getting his body ready could change things. Probably not the next Willie Parker, but worth keeping an eye on to see if he suddenly 'gets it' if given an opportunity. But not this year I think, if ever.

Bears homer here. I've had the opportunity to watch Wolfe at NIU and in the preseason. While I admire his attitude, comparisons to Sproles or Dunn are not accurate. As quick and fast as Wolfe is both Sproles and Dunn are quicker and faster. There's a reason that a lot of folks thought that he was a reach in the 3rd round; he's basically James Allen with better hands. What that means is that he's going to help on 3rd downs but if you're expecting him to help you out in fantasy or push Cedric Benson good luck. Benson will be given every opportunity to prove himself given that Jerry Angelo elected to trade Thomas Jones away and keep him, a move that many here in Chicago and nationally have questioned. Even in the event that Benson is so bad that he is pushed down the depth chart Adrian Peterson will be given first crack at taking his place - the Bears are a power running team and Wolfe can't run between the tackles.

Wolfe has made a career out of proving people wrong and as a Bears fan I am hoping that he does here, but I'm not touching him in fantasy. My two cents.
