Gary Oldman Apology (1 Viewer)

Not offended at all. Being brutally honest and this country is so PC it's getting ridicoulous.

PLAYBOY: Mel Gibson?

OLDMAN: Yeah.

PLAYBOY: What do you think about what he’s gone through these past few years?

OLDMAN: [Fidgets in his seat] I just think political correctness is crap. That’s what I think about it. I think it’s like, take a ####### joke. Get over it. I heard about a science teacher who was teaching that God made the earth and God made everything and that if you believe anything else you’re stupid. A Buddhist kid in the class got very upset about this, so the parents went in and are suing the school! The school is changing its curriculum! I thought, All right, go to the school and complain about it and then that’s the end of it. But they’re going to sue! No one can take a joke anymore.

I don’t know about Mel. He got drunk and said a few things, but we’ve all said those things. We’re all ####### hypocrites. That’s what I think about it. The policeman who arrested him has never used the word or that ####### Jew? I’m being brutally honest here. It’s the hypocrisy of it that drives me crazy. Or maybe I should strike that and say “the N word” and “the F word,” though there are two F words now.

PLAYBOY: The three-letter one?

OLDMAN: Alec calling someone an F-A-G in the street while he’s pissed off coming out of his building because they won’t leave him alone. I don’t blame him. So they persecute. Mel Gibson is in a town that’s run by Jews and he said the wrong thing because he’s actually bitten the hand that I guess has fed him—and doesn’t need to feed him anymore because he’s got enough dough. He’s like an outcast, a leper, you know? But some Jewish guy in his office somewhere hasn’t turned and said, “That ####### kraut” or “#### those Germans,” whatever it is? We all hide and try to be so politically correct. That’s what gets me. It’s just the sheer hypocrisy of everyone, that we all stand on this thing going, “Isn’t that shocking?” [smiles wryly] All right. Shall I stop talking now? What else can we discuss?

PLAYBOY: What do you think of the pope?

OLDMAN: Oh, #### the pope! [laughs and puts head in hands] So this interview has gone very badly. You have to edit and cut half of what I’ve said, because it’s going to make me sound like a bigot.

PLAYBOY: You’re not a bigot?

OLDMAN: No, but I’m defending all the wrong people. I’m saying Mel’s all right, Alec’s a good guy. So how do I come across? Angry?

PLAYBOY: Passionate, certainly. Readers will have to form their own opinions.

OLDMAN: It’s dishonesty that frustrates me most. I can’t bear double standards. It gets under my skin more than anything.

There might have been a better way to articulate his point.
Agreed....he is just pissed off and old school.

I think Mel Gibson is a total racist. Gary Oldman? Naaaaa he is just pissed off about how ridiculous society is becoming.

Meh, but even he knew he was gonna hear about it.

To be fair though, Hollywood is run by Jews. Isn't that just kind of factually accurate?

Except that society is less ridiculous than it's been in probably a long time.

Saying everybody says that is a hyperbole. But most everyone has groups of people they think badly about whether it is Jews or blacks or Christian or Democrats or Republicans or southerners or whatever. Hell, a lot of gays hate bisexuals. But some groups are protected by the PC police and some aren't.

All your gay friends tell you that?

In many regards absolutely. But people sometimes go too far on both sides of the fence.

The apology is meaningless. If you are going to say something have the balls to stick to it. He wasn't misquoted, he was sober and he knew what he said was going to get him into trouble. He said it anyway because he meant it. Own it, be the man you claim no one else is or you are certainly the hypocrite you claim so many to be.

I agree but I'm betting he received a lot of pressure from the studio behind the Planet of the Apes reboot.

Oh I have no doubt at all.

How did anyone even find out about this? You guys realize there are boobies in that magazine, right?
That's what I'm thinking too. I thought that guys are joking when they say, "I was reading Playboy for the great articles".

Apparently, we actually have one FBG member who literally does do that. did Vike Me inadvertently out himself?

NCC's point is that if those are his convictions, he should stick by them. That's sort of the opposite of PC.

Yeah...I kind of mistook his remarks.

Agree with NCC. And agree with Oldman to a degree but he chose possibly the two/three worst possible examples to use to emphasize his point. Seriously Gibson, Baldwin and a teacher teaching creationism? Ain't nobody got time for that.

I say this in all these celebrity threads...but who cares what Gary Oldman says or feels he needs to apologize for?

Plus he likes Krauhammer, that makes his opinion worthless anyway.

You realize there are better boobies on the internet, right?

I'm offended by the accusation and demand an apology.

P.S. Stop staring at my avatar, ###.

It happens.

Yeah, I don't see why he has to apologize for them.

It seems like the idea of Orwell's Thoughtcrime is real these days.

Jonah Hill shouldn't feel compelled to apologize for using the word he used either. He should be embarrassed, but not practically criminalized.

He should have left it alone or found better examples. Saying the Jewish cop who arrested Mel is also a secret bigot probably wasn't the way to go.

Yeah probably. And I'm not saying the stuff they said wasn't stupid.

Practically criminalized? What does that even mean? He was shamed as he should have been. Oldman should be as well.. he said some dumb #### here, and going by his own logic, should have known he was going to be skewered even as he was saying it.

And his apology rings hollow, so I'm not sure why he'd even bother, other than to kiss up to said Jews. It's not like he dropped a nasty slur on a human parasite, this is a well thought out opinion and clear sympathy with Mel.

Practically criminalized? What does that even mean?
It means that it feels like we're inching closer and closer to criminalizing speech.

Actually what this is is just the latest example of an actor that should just stay on script and leave the political commentary to someone else.

I don't feel like law enforcement has gotten involved with any of these cases, or that the possibility has even been considered.

In this day and age, when you piss off 100 million people or so saying dumb crap, you definitely hear it

Free speech is a beautiful thing.

No it hasn't. I just said it feels like it's trending that way.

And I did say what he (and Hill) said was stupid. Like NCC pointed out, his decision to use Gibson's rant as a point of reference is baffling.

without criminalizing speech, which would violate the first amendment, society has found a way to "ex-communicate' anybody who speaks out of turn.

There was a thread in these parts a few years ago on this trend, but community dismissed it saying, well the first amendment remains intact....

And it has always been so. Why just a few years ago admitting you were gay could cost you your job, your family and your friends. So society for a long time was fine with enforcing no gay. Now it's changed a little bit and society has decided those that would disparage someone based on their sexual connotation, their race, etc. are the ones who belong in the closet. Times change.
