Gates/M.Floyd (1 Viewer)

If you decide to grab Gates how important is it to pair Floyd at some point later in the draft? I think if Gates misses time-especially early on Floyd could put up WR1/High WR2 #'s.. just seems like very cheap insurance for the risk/high draft pick some are investing in Gates this year. Not to mention there's a shot that VJax could do something stupid again.. Im targeting Floyd late regardless but if I land Gates then he becomes a priority.

VJ is the one going to be putting up WR1 #'s if Gates goes down. Good luck with this strategy.
Obviously VJ will be putting up WR1 #s regardless of whos on the field. Point is on this offense theres room for 2 guys to put up 100yds/.8TD per game.. As of right now Gates is hurt. I think Floyd be huge early on if Gates cant go in first couple/few weeks. And if the injury lingers Floyd could come in handy a couple other times down the stretch. During those instances Floyd will give you top production.. anybody else with an opinion (less obvious)

I don't think there's any correlation. If I end up with Gates, I won't feel the need to take Floyd.

BTW, just don't think Gates is worth his ADP by year's end.

Unless Gates re-injures himself during training camp he is going to play week 1. Not sure where you're getting your info from. He has practiced the last 4 days.

Im in agreement that there's a good chance Gates doesnt live up to his high ADP this year fwiw. Gates is dealing with that injury. Practicing or not it is and may continue to be an issue. He's already spoken about it and it's the same issue he had last year. This isnt breaking news, and is less about Gates and more about Floyd being undervalued possibly due to potentially being 2nd in the pecking order if Gates misses any games again this year.

**this from NBC sports** 8/5-8/16San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates spent a few days on the active/physically unable to perform list. That ended Thursday when he was taken off the list and able to get on the practice field. Thursday marked Gates' first practice with his team since the Chargers opened training camp. He caught some passes and took part in 11-on-11 drills.

Fantasy Analysis:

This doesn't mean that Gates is healthy. He may never be truly healthy; he's just able to manage the pain right now. Gates recently said that the plantar fasciitis that caused him to miss six games in 2010 may never fully heal. It could very well be something he has to deal with for all of this season. He's still the No. 1 TE in fantasy, but the constant injury worries mean you better get some solid insurance for Gates in case injury befalls him again

If I have Gates and he gets hurt, having Floyd won't help me. What I'll need is another tight end.
You would have drafted another TE so you would use him..Come on people really? Laying it out, in a flex setup with Gates out and Floyd on your roster, Floyd immediately becomes your flex starter and you can expect 7-8 rec, 80+yds, 0.8TD/gm. This is my point. This guys is being drafted 9-11th rounds. WR2 #s simply as insurance otherwise a healthy Gates=Floyd waiting on bench for opportunity..

Firstly, Floyd is as big, if not bigger, of an injury risk as Gates. Secondly Gates is practicing and everyone is saying he's going to be ready to go for week 1. Thirdly, Rivers is going to hit whoever's open. If Gates isn't on the field I think Floyd will get more attention from the D and the beneficiary of Gates's absence will be McMichael (the backup TE), Sperry (if McMichael is also out) and Crayton (the receiver who will probably work inside the most of the starting 3WR).

You can like Floyd for Floyd, but it doesn't have much to do with Gates playing or not. I'm staying away from Floyd because he's glass. If you do get Floyd, you better be quick to pick up Vincent Brown and Ajirotutu when Floyd gets hurt.

I think Floyd see's an uptick if Gates goes down, but I don't think it equates to WR1-early2 production. I think it makes him relevant in start 3wr leagues.

I grabbed Floyd late in a league where I own V-Jax and Gates. So I did grab him as insurance, but I also grabbed him before he signed in SD, so I was also looking for a real shot at WR1 #'s which didn't happen.

If Gates goes down(praying he doesn't), grab TE Sperry. He is very athletic and has had a great preseason so far. Team has said he is the most improved player this offseason. I think he would get more of Gates' touches than McMichaels, but in reality most of the touches would go to WRs and RBs instead.

There's no reason to handcuff a player with someone at a different position. The reason to handcuff is that, if the starter goes down, your backup becomes more valuable at precisely the moment when you have a hole in your starting lineup at his position. MJD your starter goes down, which means you need to put some other RB into your starting lineup, and at the same time Rashad Jennings becomes a starting-caliber RB. To anyone else Rashad Jennings is just a high-upside lottery ticket, but if you have MJD then he's an insurance policy since he pays off precisely when one of your starting RBs goes missing. Floyd is a lottery ticket whether you have Gates or not, since if Gates goes down you'll need to find another TE (whether you have Floyd or not), and if you start Floyd you'll be bumping one of your starting WRs rather than filling a hole (whether you have Gates or not).
