GB looking for RB? (1 Viewer)

Ted Thompson is an incompetent noob. Nice job letting Ahman Green go with no back up plan despite all that cap space. At least he got Randy Moss....oh wait.As a Bears fan, hopefully, TT stays as a GM another 10 years. Things will only get worse once Favre leaves....most likely after this year since the only reason Favre is still playing is to break records. The drama queen is all about himself and so once his personal stats put him ahead of Marino, he will be gone.
Careful what you wish for pal. The Packers are setting themselves up for another run of 10 years as the Alpha Dog in the division. Is Brett still the all time winningest QB in Soldier Field history?

There are too many names to consider from a Fantasy perspective...some offer more "FF Value" than others, some are more likely to have "trade value" to GB than others...

Carolina has Goings, Shelton - limited offerings

Dallas has Tyson Thompson - I like this kid! On another team, he could get a share of touches (RBBC value)

Arizona: JJ Arrington could be an interesting prospect

Balt has Musa Smith - RFA next year?

Buff has A Thomas - is M Lynch the answer?

Mike Bell in Denver - drop to #3 in depth charts offers Denver trade

TJ Duckett in Det - Cason and Calhoun are still young

M Bennett in KC offers interesting value

Buckhalter in Philly since they now have T Hunt

M Hicks is another good value consideration

Pitt released Barlow. I wonder if GB wants a cast off...

Tenn has several options.

Of the above names, Tyson Thompson and Maurice Hicks are (IMO) the best prospects.

This is the reason I'm holding Ricky Williams through September. It's a big if, but that could almost lock me in for the last pick next year.

I didn't see it, but WTMJ channel 4 supposedly reported tonight that Wynn will be cut and then offered a spot on the practice squad.

Looking for a link...

I just caught the tail end of Adam Schefter "spinning Total Access around the league" here on Total Access, and he was saying something about GB looking to make some deals? Did anyone catch this? What potential running backs did he mention that might be on their way to Lambeau?
Basically... Green Bay is looking to make some deals. They'd like to add a RB and trade one of the kickers. Speculated Wali Lundy could be a possibility if cut. No other names were mentioned that I remember.
The Packers and Texans should have just traded their entire running back corps last season and got it over with

Safety loses job in camp

Green Bay - In an attempt to salvage something of their free agent swing and miss on veteran Marquand Manuel, the Green Bay Packers have been offering the safety in a trade.

Two National Football League team officials said the Packers had made it known that Manuel is one of the players they are willing to trade before the deadline for trimming rosters to 53 comes later today. A third source familiar with the player and the team said there were strong indications the Packers were talking with other teams about Manuel.

If the Packers do strike a trade, it's unlikely it will be for anything more than a low-round pick, and it very well could be on the condition that Manuel spend a minimum number of weeks on the roster. If the Packers don't reach a deal, there's no reason to think they'll keep Manuel on their 53-man roster, given his fall from starter last year to backup this year.

Manuel, 28, lost his starting job to former "street" free agent Atari Bigby midway through camp and didn't even play Thursday night in the exhibition finale against the Tennessee Titans. Instead of playing Manuel as a backup, the Packers took a long look at second-year pros Tyrone Culver and Charlie Peprah, who are competing for the fourth safety job behind Nick Collins, Bigby and rookie Aaron Rouse.

A number of teams have safety issues around the NFL, but it's questionable whether any of them will give up a pick to assure themselves of obtaining Manuel. If the Packers release Manuel, he will become a free agent, eligible to negotiate with any team of his choosing.

Any team that trades for Manuel will absorb his $1.26 million base salary this year and base salaries of $1.56 million in 2008, $1.86 million in '09 and $2.16 million in '10. It would be obligated to pay the '07 base salary only if Manuel was on the roster the first day of the regular season.

Among the teams that might have interest in a safety are Houston, Jacksonville, Buffalo, Carolina and Miami. The Seattle Seahawks, who attempted to re-sign Manuel before he left for a five-year, $10 million deal in Green Bay, have since upgraded their safety position and probably aren't interested anymore.

Should the Packers go with Collins, Bigby, Rouse and either Peprah or Culver, they're going to have a grand total of five years of experience at the position. Manuel is in his sixth year in the NFL.

General manager Ted Thompson signed Manuel before last season in hopes of filling a safety position that had fallen apart since the release of Darren Sharper in 2005. Manuel had directed the secondary for the NFC champion Seahawks and was brought in to quarterback a diverse unit featuring two veteran cornerbacks and a promising young safety.

However, he missed most of training camp with a calf injury, rubbed cornerbacks Al Harris and Charles Woodson the wrong way, proved incapable of handling the many man-to-man coverage assignments safeties must carry out in the Packers' defense and missed far too many tackles.

In training camp, Bigby proved far more athletic and equally sound in his assignments, earning the starting job after the second exhibition game. Bigby is far from a finished product, but the Packers are convinced they will be a better defense with his speed and tackling ability in the lineup.

No word yet: The Packers did not announce any cuts or trades, leaving a number of players in limbo heading into the final cutdown deadline today.

Among those waiting to hear something are kickers Dave Rayner and Mason Crosby, who have been engaged in a heated battle for one roster spot.

Crosby stumbled a little bit by missing a 52-yard attempt against Tennessee, but the way the ball exploded off his foot and traveled well out of the end zone, it was evident he has a legitimate shot of hitting from beyond 50 any time he's on the field.

"I hit that ball well," Crosby said. "Just with the wind and all that stuff, I just misjudged it a little bit and put it a little left. For a second, I thought I had it. It was coming back a little bit. I couldn't tell what the wind was doing. It seemed calm on the field but when the ball got up there it started moving."

Strange feeling: Bigby went to the same high school as Manuel (Miami Senior High) and the two are friends, so it has not been a normal battle for a starting spot between the two.

"Sometimes it feels like a business, but when it comes down to it at night, before I go to bed, it is weird," said Bigby, 25. "I'm against somebody that's so close to me. We came from the same background. Our struggles are somewhat the same."

B. Jackson will be fine, just like all the other Packer RB's. Some running with a lot of PPR value in the next few years.

...The Packers will be watching closely to see if two free agents, Freddie Jackson of Buffalo and Pierre Thomas of New Orleans, are released. One personnel man said Jackson, who played at Coe College, was considerably better than Wynn. Thomas finished exhibition play with 198 yards, a 5.8-yard average and three touchdowns.

hear fromwhere/who????? I thought the Saints were pleased with Pittman's preseason performance.
The problem is that UDFA Pierre Thomas has looked awesome, which makes Pittman's average performance look kind of bad.I don't know that they're necessarily looking to trade Pittman but it's a good bet that one of three pretty decent players (Stecker, Pittman, Thomas) will end up being available, one way or another.

Jackson had enough opportunity, and did little enough with it this preseason, that I am convinced he is not fine. This rumor would not be swirling if he were fine.

They are looking for bodies at RB , not for a starter .

Herron is hurt , Morency is hurt , Wynn is worthless .

They are looking for a third or 4th string RB.

So if i understand what you are saying the Bills should also be looking to trade for a RB cause Lynch had a less then 2 YPC in pre season , he was way worst then Jackson .Cmon it was pre season ( Bush - Addai both had bad pre season last year and they turnd out good ) give the kid a break. They also mention the Falcons in that story ( That they were looking for RB ) should Norwood owners be worried .

I hear New Orleans may be looking to trade Antonio Pittman.

Will they keep him and Pierre?
If so then A. Stecker will be available. IMO, he is the back GB would be looking for. He is a smart seasoned vet. If the Saints trade or let go of Pittman GB will be looking at another B. Jackson. Pittman needs time to adjust to the NFL, especially in blitz pickup. If they let P. Thomas go, I will be an upset fan, and he will not last long on the WW. He has been the best looking RB out of the two.

 IMO, Stecker will be the most ready to play, and will also cost more to keep. However, he is a favorite of coach Payton and sice the Saints sat him in the last preseason game, it is thought that he will surely be a lock to make the team. Saints could try to trade him and keep both Pittman and Thomas. It is clear by Saints fans that he is dreading to make this decision.

All this for the Pack getting a third string RB ( Unless Morency injury is worst then they say ) then it would make sense to look for a vet so if Jackson really fails then they have someone . But funny how people read a story differently.

Thanks for the info guys.Apparently Lundy has been cut by Houston, so who knows what'll happen here.
Maybe they can trade Harrell and Brandon Jackson for Michael Turner? Oh that's right, the entire board was sure Turner wasn't worth a 1st and 2nd. GB will be much better off with the Harrell/Jackson combo.
;) I'm with ya! I thought EITHER GB or Tenn would have made a trade for Turner before or during the NFL draft. I mean, Tenn takes Chris Henry? GB takes Brandon Jackson? :eesh:

Three names that stand out in internet searches:

Pierre Thomas

M. Bell

S. Young

Somebody to replace Wynn. He's the only healthy back right now and he's only been healthy for a week. Morency isn't ready, Herron has knee issue, and Jackson has a concussion.

They seem to be shopping a DT, Mannuel, Walker, and Rayner. TE, RB, and maybe a 3rd QB on the shopping list.

Lundy got cut by HOU and the two teams run the same running scheme. I wouldn't be surprised if GB picks him up.

WMTJ? Hahaha that's great. Was that station founded by a bunch of dentists or something?I'd be surprised that Wynn even stays on the PS for more than one year. He had a ton of talent, but failed to work hard to get better. You can't do that in the NFL.

Give a late rounder for Memo. He's better than anything they have now.

While it's possible they outright cut him, Pinner's the more likely RB cut (if either one is cut at all, due to Memo's ST's value).

Can't speak for GB, but as a Titans fan:Griffen who is looking great and may end up starting at CB THIS YEAR + rookie RB with good potential >> Turner.

Aaron Stecker is from Green Bay (Ashwaubenon). Just tossing that out as his name has been mentioned so many times in this thread....

When the Packers implemented the zone blocking scheme, most notably used by the Broncos, I didn't realize they also inherited the non-sense that usually is reserved for the Denver Bronco running back threads.

teams tend to pick up players at positions where they do not have depthright now the Packers have 1 FB and 3 injured RB's. what do you expect them to do? of course they're going to be looking to pick up an RB.

it takes both sides to agree on a trade to make it happenSD isn't giving up Turner. LT is awesome, incredible, but even he isn't immune to injury. why give up a very capable backup when you can keep him for cheap?

Verron Haynes just got cut from a crowded and talented Steelers backfield. Dont think he is feature back material, but he could definitely have a role in a RBBC.
