These are probably the kind of prices we can expect going forward. A lot of people in the music industry lost a lot of money because of the pandemic, and they're gonna do what they can to make it up.

Most local venues here seem to have survived. Boz Scaggs' joint Slim's announced early last year that they were shutting down; the space is supposed to reopen as an EDM club.  Another small place near our house reportedly sold their liquor license which is pretty ominous.

This LA song is from her most recent album which unfortunately was released one week before shutdown last year. It's a lovely piece of work with assists from Mike Viola and her husband Mr. Mandy Moore from Dawes. She's shooting for a retro 70s Ronstadt/Fleetwood Mac sound and manages to stick most landings.

Hate it when a pick lands on the bottom of the page.

Clubs here are scrambling to book, so I’m seeing a lot more tribute bands (maybe because of name recognition as well) - last week a Stone Temple Pilots Tribute band was playing. I like STP fine, but do we need a tribute band?

The National acts are staring very soon, early July.

Reading about it on the internet and looking at youtube, you pour around a gallon of water in the toilet bowl and then flush it. You can also fill up the water tank (which takes even more water) and flush it.   We're gonna need a lot of water. Hopefully I won't be eating something with a lot of fiber in it.    I can pee outside.

And I’m so desperate for live music again, I’m paying $44 to see a Rush Tribute band tonight at the Stone Pony.

How was the show?  

It was good enough for what I needed - to see some live music. The band was very talented and the sound was excellent. I’m glad I went - although when it passed the Wonder Bar walking home I felt like I made a mistake. There was a NYC based R&B band playing with full horn section and the vibe just seemed better.

There’s just something that’s always creeped me out a bit about Tribute Bands - especially when they go out of their way to look like the real band - and this band did. I just find it odd that their whole career is based off of some other bands creativity and aura.

I just find it odd that their whole career is based off of some other bands creativity and aura. 

Some were born to write and can't play, some were born to play and can't write. It's a miracle when they come together, really. When you think about music, it's really a miracle we know as much as we do. Whoever thought up each and every advance in even just recognizing pitch is a miracle (Pythagoras).

Even in its current diminished state, Rock 'N Roll is a young person's game. Tribute bands are a paying gig for musicians who are thirty and over.

The few acts I've seen bring in decent crowds of drinking folks which is a win for the clubs. I appreciate the hustle even though I won't go out of my way to see a tribute band unless I know someone in the group.

Reading about it on the internet and looking at youtube, you pour around a gallon of water in the toilet bowl and then flush it. You can also fill up the water tank (which takes even more water) and flush it.   We're gonna need a lot of water. Hopefully I won't be eating something with a lot of fiber in it.    I can pee outside.
