I apologize in advance if I get the rounds mixed up.  I think I missed a day in my notebook, and then might have mixed up days when I went back through.

Dolly is the one who wanted to change the lyric, and Neil was fine with it. They made him some $ off the tune.

 
Subjective of course, but on most days what I would say is a top 5 RH song is buried on an album I don't like at all.

Happy belated 500th round, everybody!   Been a fun, crazy trip we went on, and this really did help me keep some sort of balance and sanity during the COVID months. 

 
I'm going to see Tre Burt, The Marcus King Band, and Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats tonight in Raleigh. It's going to be hot and humid out.  I wish more outdoor shows were in the Fall, and not the summer.  I have a cooling towel I could wear around my neck. I have to snap it periodically to keep it cool. If someone is blocking my view, I could snap them in the ### with it to get them to move. Maybe I will take it.

Nice- hope you have a great time! I've seen the Marcus King Band a few times and always enjoy them. Never heard of the other artists mentioned.

 
505.8 or 12 - Linda Ronstadt - How Do I Make You  (Trio)

Young, judgemental Eephus dismissed Ronstadt's 1980 New Wave album Mad Love as a crass commercial career move which it probably was. But I was wrong--listening back forty years later reveals a strong Power Pop album.  The Costello covers are just so-so but the singles are terrific.

Closing out the Beat This channel with a rare quadruple Beat.

This band were local Bay Area faves in the mid 80s. We saw them a few times as openers back in the day, even then I thought their name was ridiculous. They finally got a major label deal after the New Wave had receded.  Andy Sturmer and Roger Manning went on to form Jellyfish.

Interesting. What do you think of Kid A? I don't know many people who like one and hate the other.

I vividly remember hating Kid A when it came out.  There was some sort of midnight stream on the satellite and another FBG and I were in school together, were RH fans, and listened basically going...   :unsure:   <_< :penalty:  .    Anyway, seeing them a couple times on that tour really made me love the songs, and now I dig it, but it's still probably my 4th -5th favorite.   At least it's consistent and flows.   To me Amnesiac is a mish mash of songs that plays like a b-side compilation, and probably has 4-5 of my least favorite RH songs on it.

Byles worked with Lee "Scratch" Perry after Perry's association with Bob Marley came to an end.

One of my favorites from LA Woman. 

Bad News Beat -- Neil Young

Neil only wrote one song that qualifies for this category, and it appears on one of his worst albums. It's not terrible but, like everything else on Landing on Water, it suffers from overproduction.

Somehow my Road Trip radio playlist had not loaded, so for today's jaunt around the island we started instead with Microphone #2.  Hmmmm.  I'm the one who suggested this channel.  Hmmmm.  For the most part kinda see why these folks were relegated to rarely doing vocals (exceptions include Faces and Traffic songs).  Also, actual conversation:

OH:  "Utopia.  So who was the lead singer in Utopia?"

Me:  "I dunno, I think that guy who just got into the Hall of Fame...?"

Me:  "..."

Me:  "Something with a T..."

Me:  "Todd Rundgren!"

OH:  "Well...OK."

Us:  [listening...song finishes...]

Another Utopia song comes on.
