Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (6 Viewers)

I have a friend that knows your best friend
He goes some places where she goes
He said he saw y'all at a party
Sniffing white powder up your nose

&

Don't go there 'cause you'll never return
I know you think of me when you think of her
But then it don't make sense when you're tryin' hard
To do the right thing but without recompense
And then you did something wrong and you said it was great
And now you don't know how you could ever complain
Because you're all confused 'cause you want me to
But then you want me to do it the same as you

22.8 or 12 - Ugly Kid Joe - Everything About You - (Pop Rocks)

One of the challenges of doing 50+ music drafts with pretty much the same crew is to avoid repeating myself.  I'm absolutely certain I've never drafted this one in any format.

I'm amused by how the band revels in the song's swaggering stupidity.  I like everything about it from Julia Sweeney's spoken intro in some versions to the slowed down bridge and dumb little rap culminating in the "shave and a haircut two bits" finale.  It's a crime that Ugly Kid Joe isn't in the RRHOF yet.

Simply some of the nicest harmonies and a rocking song. RR HoF indeed. Good show. Graham Nash's voice is heavenly.

I like The Hollies and have remember drafting a couple of their songs before but they're bottom tier hall of famers IMO.  They owe their induction to the time and place they emerged from.  They're like the excess of Baseball Hall of Fame members from the first half of the 20th century.

The Hollies are better than Ugly Kid Joe though.

Ok time to catch up with a music drop out of Michigan (blindly hoping I am not taking something already chosen)

Symphony Hall- let's highlight 2 modern composers since this category is usually made up of old dead guys. I am not into avant-garde and people are already familiar with the John Williams and Danny Elfmans of the world so I am trying to be a bit less obvious

Rd 13 Walking in the Air by Howard Blake

Rd 14 Wild Swans Suite by Elena Kats-Chernin (arranged for piano and violin)

BPM- It has been a stressful week so let's dance the problems away and celebrate the good news!

Rd 15 Physical- Ofenbach Remix by Dua Lipa and Ofenbach

Rd 16 In for the Kill by Shamir

Turbo-  LFG

Rd 17 Passenger by Deftones

Rd 18 Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck by Prong

Sinatra Standards to calm the soul and return us to normalcy

Rd 19  It's Only a Paper Moon by Ella FItzgerald

Rd 20 On the Sunny Side of the Street by Peggy Lee
This post covers a lot of musical ground

The real question: Is Ugly Kid Joe's song schlock or not schlock?
The Schlock Draft was a fun format even if we never really defined what schlock was.  It provoked discussion by forcing drafters to take sides, especially on the dislike side

Maybe we could do an Overrated/Underrated draft some time to get folks riled up.

Might need a ruling on deep cuts if I go that route

Either that or I pick some old country songs I'm vaguely familiar with but don't post YouTube links because I don't want to screw my algorithm up.

Silver lining I guess is that we avoided the Holly station

I really need to take heed of this. There's some awful stuff floating around in mine.

Update on who owes what:

Zamboni -- 12th through 22nd rounds

Pitchfork -- 20th through 22nd rounds

Doug B -- 13th though 22nd rounds

Hov34 -- 22nd round

Abrantes -- everything 😆

I guess it's obvious when you know it, but "Mama Told Me Not To Come" is a Randy Newman song.
Perhaps something that's held against them is that they didn't write their own songs and pop/rock acts were "supposed" to do that after the advent of the Beatles. (This was never held against R&B/soul acts.) Linda Ronstadt was also in this category and didn't get in until 2014, when it should have been much earlier.

krista4 will be handling Beatles selections for me tomorrow (teamwork!). It should be very cool to see her make her picks. Peace. And I'll be tuning in, so...yeah. Take it away, k4!
