Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (10 Viewers)

Oh #### it.  This is twice now I was thinking about avoiding this band because they have their own channel in this draft, but I will still take one of my faves and put it in this list...

ROAD TRIP

30.xx:  PEARL JAM - REARVIEWMIRROR

Link

Roadtrip

There are so so so many classic roadtrip songs and what makes a roadtrip song a roadtrip song is actually hard to define. Is about driving or going on an adventure? Sometimes. Sometimes its just what feels exciting to drive to. Press down on the pedal, roll the windows down, crank it up, sing a long. I aimed to hit all of these.

Rd 29 Driver's Seat by Sniff'n' The Tears

great song, no clue what they were thinking with the band name

Doing alright
A little driving on a Saturday night
And come what may
Gonna dance the day away

Rd 30 The Backseat by Gaslight Anthem

You know the summer always brought in
That wild and reckless breeze
And in the backseats we just tried to find
Some room for our knees

Speaking of driving. I got a call on my way home from my HR Dept about possible covid exposure so will be spending at least the next 5 days in my basement :(
We got the notification of the first positive case on our sales team yesterday. I'm remote and not impacted but... this ain't going away.

As a man of the people, I'll add Prince channel, Comedy, outlaw country and Shade 45.

57 channels.

4 every two rounds.

When a channel comes up 3 times it's out.

I haven't mathed any of this.
So if there were the final rules we're going with, we've maxed out a couple categories I think, I'll take a look later this evening.

This is the third time around for Prince and the Boss.

ETA:  which may change my strategy for tonight's pick

I’d be fine capping it at 4 or 5 times per category so we can build up the playlists more. I’m not going anywhere at this point.

I would move it to 4 since I forgot and people didn't realize some categories were going off the board.

Or move it to 4 for the ones that are already at 3?

I'm good with whatever, with two a days and a relatively small group it's pretty manageable.

The road trip station, is there a specific theme or basically just music you like to listen to on a long drive?
We listen to this station a lot.  It's driving music.

And "Blue Highway" by Billy Idol is great.  I hadn't heard that in ages.

Just go 4 for all of them. It was 3 in past Genrepalooza's but we only had three choices to choose from every two rounds instead of four.

4 sounds good. By my math that should give us about 30 songs per playlist if everything gets drafted evenly.

If repeat categories become a problem, we could add a fifth category if the first four rolls are all repeats.

Okay, all categories get a 4th spin before maxing out, I'll try to do some spreadsheet magic to better track it and if it starts to drag, we'll re-evaluate or add more categories per two rounds as Eephus suggested.

Round 30

Category: Road Trip

Song: Wild Thing

Artist: The Troggs

That riff is undeniable.
Love it, at my wedding we wanted to avoid all the glass clinking for a kiss so we had cards at the table that said if you wanted us to kiss, the table had to stand up and sing a song. My family sang Wild Thing for us lol.

30.8 or 12 - Sheila E. - The Belle of St. Mark (Prince)

The second single off her 1984 debut album after "The Glamorous Life".  Prince wrote and produced but you can tell that from listening.
Neither is my favorite from that album.  Oliver's House I loved back in the day - I'm assuming Prince had a heavy hand on everything.

Sorry for spotlighting...

I poured my aching heart into a pop song
I couldn't get the hang of poetry
That's not a skirt, girl, that's a sawn-off shotgun
And I can only hope you've got it aimed at me
