Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (1 Viewer)

It was hard to pick which song to draft off my favorite Tom Waits album. I decided to go with the first song on the album.

Round 162

New Coat of Paint - Tom Waits     (R&R Hall of Fame)

Our love needs a transfusion, so let's shoot it full of wine
Fishin' for a good time starts with throwin' in your line

He was the other artist I was looking at for this category. Hate to see this one go.

Uh, they are like UNwritten and stuff.  ;)

Not busting chops or anything, I honestly didn't notice the double up today.  I was just thinking this morning as I scanned through I didn't see any doubles, but thought I missed something.
I don't think it is a big deal if a couple artists double up. It just would been disappointing if it had 3 Stones songs, 4 Zeppelin songs and 4 James Brown songs or something. But we are nerds so that was unlikely to happen.

Sorry for the longer song in the mix.  Scanning over the list of course I wanted a bit more metal represented, and of course we need to have the godfathers in there.    I had heard their radio hits, but one of my friends was playing this album and when this song came on it hit me like a ton of bricks - I was hooked right away and got this album and their debut.

R&R HOF:

161.xx:  BLACK SABBATH - HAND OF DOOM

This mix is going to be so good. I am going to fire it up in a few.

For sure we wouldn't let that happen.    We have nerd standards to uphold around here..

I did get around to The Groove station.  Mostly good, but I think I was down with it when it veered more into the 70s and less into the 80s grooves.   I didn't get a chance to write all of them down as I was poking around the house, but a few standouts were:

Just Got Paid, Fencewalk, Strawberry Letter 23, Soul Travelin' Part 1, and Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City.

You seem to like a whole lot of my picks.  You should listen to me more.  :whispersbluegrasschannel:

:lmao:   I am not going to draft it, but the other day I went down a really deep rabbit hole as I dug through song covers.  Fell on bluegrass rap, acoustic death metal.  One of my favorites:

The Gourds - Gin and Juice
Reminds me of a fun band I saw live at a local Tacos & Tequila festival a few years back (so I was pretty hammered).

They are a mariachi styled band dressed up in Lucia Libre / Gwar / Dia de Los muertos costumes playing classic metal songs. They’re funny as hell too.

May I present to you - Metalachi

I don't care, a couple artists doubling up is cool. The playlist is pretty long now and I think does a really good job highlighting the variety in the HOF. I think it will make an interesting listen.
Doubling up on the same song is a written rule

It would be cool if these streaming services had a way to do a community listen for a playlist.   Grab a drink, bowl, gummy, nothing, and join in the discussion...
Spotify has had Group Session in Beta for a while. I think it's limited to five users and I've only ever seen the option on my phone.

Yeah, just last year during the mega draft where we took albums and put 2 songs into the playlist.  Never listened to much more than The Weight, never saw Last Waltz, etc.
There's a documentary on Hulu about The Band.

Its title is "Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and the Band" which should give you some idea about whose point of view gets shown.  I started watching it early in shutdown but it couldn't hold my interest at the time.  I know how it ends :sadbanana:

Speaking of music documentaries, "Hitsville:The Making of Motown" is now streaming on Amazon Prime.  It's Berry Gordy's authorized biopic so the warts are skimmed over a bit but it's an excellent film.

Nothing from me that time

I propose for a Hall of Fame vote. Since it is retiring and there are so many artists left worthy of recognition, we bid it farewell with a bonus round. I know some people can't always make the Friday nights where we screw around so this would just be open to everyone.

We all get 1 more Rock and Roll Hall of Fame pick. Only rule is that it has to be an artist not already chosen for the playlist.

THOUGHTS?

I really miss standing in front of the stage but don't know if I'll be comfortable doing it after this is over.
