The Summertime playlist is really good- perfect listen for hanging outside in the sun with a couple cold ones! There's a block of 4 songs called Children of the Sun that's surprisingly the weak part of the mix. Even though I must've drafted it the Judas Priest song doesn't really go with this mix.

So Kraut rock is basically psychedelic/space rock with more electronic effects made by Germans? Just about all the Kraut rock I've sampled could just as easily go on Free Your Mind

About 4 hours ago, I lost power in half the outlets in the house. One of those outlets was to the refrigerator. I checked the fuse box, and everything looked normal. I phoned my handy BIL, and he was busy at the moment, but he eventually came over. He checked things, and he thinks a breaker or something went bad. We plugged in the refrigerator to an extension cord to an outlet that is working, and I had to change around some things for my wifi to work also. He's gonna come back tomorrow to try and fix the problem. Since half the outlets aren't working, my BIL asked me if I only paid for half the power bill.

Spotify defenitely tracks my activity here. I typed in "Moby Grape" and the first two songs that popped up were "I Am Not Willing" and "8:05," both of which I wouldn't have listened to except for Pip. Perhaps they're the first two songs that pop up for everybody, but somehow I doubt it.

Ah, okay. I can't always get the links because they don't always pop up in the application that I have running on my computer. That's why I just searched for "Moby Grape" instead of clicking the link. I do that quite a bit, because it wants me to sign in if I use the web site, which then kicks me out of the application, which I like to have running at all times (mostly because of Genrepalooza, really).

I particularly love the song "They're Winning." I probably have told this story before, but back before the Red Sox had won anything in the aughts (which they proceeded to slightly dominate, ahem, San Fran and St. Louis) I would hear the song and just think of the Yankees, and how much I disliked them as a former CT/MA guy.
"They'rrrrrrrre winnnnninnng...again"...says Hamilton Leithauser in his nasally Dylan-esque style. I always found it haunting and fatalistic, just like that "rivalry" was up until 2003.

Sometime during my Lost Years, probably around the time the Red Sox started winning in the playoffs, I saw the Walkmen play at a frat house at Penn. I stood at the side of the makeshift stage watching the drummer the whole time.

That's something else, Pip. Matt Barrick, I believe, is the guy you likely saw. Eminently watchable bundle of energy. He's the subject of a bunch of articles about how good his drumming is. Guess I missed the boat for Beat It! or Beat This on that one.

Yes, it was Barrick. Beat It is not retired, it just hasn't been rolled in a while. I was thinking about putting something of his on there and never got around to it -- I don't know their material all that well and didn't make the time to sift through things.
This was typical of my Lost Years -- I became friends with a lot of people who were connected and sometimes I'd get a call about some random event in NYC, NJ or Philly happening that day and make my way over there. I have no idea how I pulled it off while having a job and a dog to take care of, but I did.

Some great songs on the ska playlist I've personally never heard. "Riot Radio" and "With Any Sort Of Certainty" are standing out as newer stuff that I hadn't heard that sounds just great.
