I like the shirt.
You might as well. Not much else is going to happen in this thread until the Summerpalooza IV draft is over.I like the shirt.
Also, was going to try to make up picks from the past few days, but now not sure if i should
I suspect this draft will never end officially. More likely, it will lose people by attrition (as it has been) until we get to a point where the remaining people decide just to add what they want to the remaining playlists at once and call it a day.I will slowly work on my make up picks as well. I think a small break is needed, but we are still going to at least rock this until the 1 year anniversary, right?
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have made another album together called Raise the Roof. It comes out in November. Here is one of the songs. It is a cover of Lucinda Williams' song "Can't Let Go."
Tony Bennett, 95, retires from live shows on doctors’ ordersI was just talking about Tony Bennett last night, specifically the duet he did with Paul McCartney. As much as I love Paul, he just couldn't keep up with a septuagenarian Bennett at the time. I think his phrasing is the best I've ever heard.
You're reading posts from April? Who is the Man With No Name?
I have seen Nanci live in concert several times and she's a wonderful storyteller and beautiful performer, this track is a perfect example of her artistry
Pick 237 - Storytellers - Love at the Five and Dime (Live 1988 Anderson Fair) from One Fair Summer Evening - Nanci Griffith
Rest in peace Nanci
Down at the station the tracks are cold
The wheels of thunder, they roll no more
And the heart of America cries for the souls
Who won't be rollin' home
The dragon weeps with empty eyes,
The whistle sighs no more in the night

Daryl Hall tells Vulture about the best and worst of Hall & Oates.
I don’t think there is one best Hall & Oates album. Truthfully, the most impactful albums to me are my solo albums. They’re the ones that matter the most to me because I liked the people I worked with.
Thanks.

It's possible, but you don't really need to be vague and "political" about record company executives from many decades ago.![]()
Maybe he's talking about their label? Otherwise, that's a big-time big time.
Robert bloody ####### Christgau gave Abandoned Luncheonette a C. [Ed. note: It was a B-.] One of the great albums of the ’70s. So there you go. What an #######.
I imagine he's not the only musician from that era who thinks of Christgau that way.
Christgau is an interesting read. I still remember when the "Dean" of American rock critics came to our Music, Market, and Youth Culture class while I was in college. Some jazzhole from who headed up the student part of the jazz department asked him at least four questions about Captain Beefheart and would not let up about it. Finally, Christgau asked if we'd had him all the way from the City to talk about an artist he didn't much care for. I think he was pretty direct. "Did you have me all the way up here to give a lecture about Beefheart?" I lerfed. I was a babe then and didn't know Christgau from Adam, but he struck me as well thought-out and very cool.

I like Hall and Oates. Really do. I really like Daryl Hall's voice and their pop leanings. I might very well enjoy Sacred Songs. I'll check it out.I discussed it briefly when I chose a song from it for the Goin' Solo playlist, but RA, I think you would enjoy Sacred Songs. It's quite different from the usual H&O stuff but, except for track 4, not a difficult listen at all. Just a bit more challenging than their usual fare.
I'd be shocked if it wasn't Sacred Songs. Robert Fripp produced it and it has a cult following among some people that aren't otherwise majorly into H&O. Hall's other solo albums aren't that different from the typical H&O sound.OH was championing some Daryl Hall solo thing a couple of weeks ago. I'm too lazy to see if this is what you guys are discussing. Guess I should give it a chance, though, given that OH - that OH - had good things to say about something that is, shall we say, not in his wheelhouse.
Abandoned Luncheonette is their best album by a country mile. In the interview when asked what their best single is, Hall says She’s Gone, because they wrote that song together, and all the other songs he wrote.Pip's Invitation said:I don’t think there is one best Hall & Oates album. Oates wrote some songs by himself (Abandoned Luncheonette has three of them), and he co-wrote some other songs with Hall (some were singles).I have drafted two and will take the third when the appropriate category comes up.Oates wrote some songs by himself (Abandoned Luncheonette has three of them)
