Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (6 Viewers)

It's a good way to close out that mix, anyway. I'm working on the order of the songs as we speak. Not adding or subtracting, just playing A & R man, maybe.

WXPN's Throwback Thursday theme today is songs with animals in the title -- our Morning Zoo category, basically.

When I was in the car, they played three of my picks -- that I chose for other categories (Ride the Tiger, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Don't Kill the Whale).

I've been listening today, too. It's been fun - not all chalk. There's been some #### played I've never heard before.

For you Pink Floyd fans, they are playing the entire Animals LP at 6 p.m. EDT. 

 
Listened to 80s on 8 while Mrs. Eephus was cutting my hair today.  It was a fun listen after all that Jazz.  Fortunately I didn't end up with a Flock of Seagulls cut.

This year's league was a mix of last year's participants, a few who sat out last year but had played before, and a few new people. I'm sure it'll be something like that again next year.

Took Rolling Stones Radio with me on a trip to the farmer's market. It's a great blend of old, new, hits and deep cuts.  And Merry Clayton doing a Simon & Garfunkel cover.

I need to pick 4-5 of these and dig in.   The kids going back to school next week, and for now keeping my 4 day work week, so I will be living large with some time on my hands Weds and Thurs!  

Any suggestions?   I have preferred the more genre based ones or themes like spring vs. the ones where it's off song titles and the like.

I will echo simey's recommendation of Strings and Things, it flows together really well. 

Stonehenge is just beastly. I presume you've listened to it already, but in case you haven't...

Lazy Sunday Morning is perfect if you're looking for a mellow vibe.

 Good suggestions, and probably quite a bit that would be new for me- thanks for narrowing down the choices.   

Stonehenge is a top 10 channel from the draft for me.  Fantastic mix of chalk and off the board picks.

If we don't keep this one going/want to start a new draft to bring in some fresh blood, I had ideas this AM. First was a 2010s song draft but I know a lot of people aren't necessarily up on the newer music as much, so then I thought, hmmm haven't done 90s in a long time - I could only find a 90s mixtape draft - not a straight songs one (I'm sure it exists). Then I thought maybe 70s - there was a more recent one but it was a Tim Draft with voting. 

So I landed on a 70s/90s/10s draft, with some additional twists, mostly 

- a requirement to draft x amount of songs from each decade

- a hard cap on number of songs that can be taken from any artist. (to be determined once we know how many people are in). 

This would bring back some of the "draft strategy" - if I want to get that hot 70s artist, I better do it quick before they're all gone - but what if I only truly love a few 90s songs. 

Could add in other requirements, or not, and cap the number of rounds, or not.

And then could follow with the 60s/80s/00s version. 

Or roll the dice and fire up some new categories here. 

 
Got through Strings and Things today.   Good stuff, and had a decent flow to it.  Couple gems that were new to me:

The Sea and Cake

Darondo 

Elbow

Dusty Springfield 

I think about the only thing I didn't dig is the Tom Waits song, but that's just a me and his voice thing I think.   

I will be sitting at the hospital with the pops tomorrow all day, so I DLd a few more playlists to listen to:

Synth, Beat it, Garage, Velvet Underground, Blues, Surf and Skate.

We haven't done anything with albums in over a year

 
Yesterday I took my son to the town's annual (except for last year) back to school celebration in our neighborhood park, and they had a band that was playing mostly kid material, but @krista4 would be amused to know they played three Beatles songs, and ended with the ultimate counting song, All Together Now. (They also played Please Please Me and Here Comes the Sun). Surprisingly, they also played The Kinks (All Day and All of the Night) and, very surprisingly, they also played The Ramones (Blitzkrieg Bop). 

I had nothing else to focus on while waiting in line for Mr. Softee while my son was off playing with his friends. 😆

Beat It,Garage and Blues are all good listens. Hated Synth and haven't dove in to the others.

Too funny. 

Yeah, like we were saying earlier in the thread -- or I have said on many occasions to many people -- The Ramones are bubblegum music with weird lyrics. The Blitzkrieg Bop is probably the least of the offensiveness, so therefore, that one? 

Plus, kids know it from all those neat sports arenas they've been going to during COVID. Or something like that.

Thanks.   Today turned out to be 2 sets of testing, but they narrowed the problem down to a leaky heart valve, so he is going in next Friday to talk to cardiologist about that.   

I did get through the Lazy Sunday mix.  Great relaxing mix for the long day today.  The new ones that I really liked and wrote down:

Surfaces

Wooden Shjips 

Tedeschi Trucks Band

Bedouine 

Rusted Root

and another great Dusty Springfield track.  

I also listened to the short Side 1, Track 1 playlist.   Mostly stuff I had heard before, but the Midnight Oil tune was new and kicked ###.  I also liked the Rick Ross and Stooges songs.

If you don't object to my putting on my cardiology journalist hat for a minute, make sure that that is followed up on quickly. There are many possible reasons for a "leaky heart valve" but a lot of them are not good, especially in older people. Sometimes replacement or repair of the valve is needed, and if that is the case, the sooner that happens, the better.
