Genrepalooza Presents: FG Radio - Tons of Lithium but very little Chill (2 Viewers)

No googling this one...

Passport, past life, a drifter's demons
Alone, lost, and fast running out of reasons
For not falling in with the Foreign Legion

Cold, kicking the can around town one evening
Streets all abandoned, bars barely breathing
A whirlwind, a woman, and a famous feeling

Alone, lost, and fast running out of reasons
For not falling in with the Foreign Legion

I did not know this without googling, but I should have

You don't read between the lines
'Bout to leave, can you read my mind?
Did you think you're my ride home, baby?
'Cause my girls are parked behind

When we were together, I tried to tell you
I used to tap dance when I was in choir
And I broke my arm when my dad crashed a go-kart
He didn't mean to, my mom didn't buy it
I tried on your lipstick, I thought I looked pretty
But you didn't care, no, 'cause you're always busy
And you're always busy, so you never hear me

Oh, I want all my clothes designer (ooh)
I want someone else to buy 'em (yeah)
If I cannot get it right now (now)
I don't want it, I don't want it, I don't want it at all
I don't want it, I don't want it, I don't want it at all
Give me all of your attention (ooh)
Give me summer in the Hamptons (yeah)
If I cannot get it right now (now)
I don't want it, I don't want it, I don't want it at all
I don't want it, I don't want it, I don't want it at all

Ignorance and understanding
We're the first ones to jump in line
Out of step for what we believe in
But who's left to stop the bleeding?
How far will we take this?
It's not hard to see through the thickness
So tell me, what would you say?
I'd say it's time to

If you wanna run away with me, I know a galaxy
And I can take you for a ride
I had a premonition that we fell into a rhythm
Where the music don't stop for life
Glitter in the sky, glitter in my eyes
Shining just the way I like
If you're feeling like you need a little bit of company
You met me at the perfect time

When you go please don't leave your love in the sun
My heart would melt away
In the night with your twisted tongue
When you drop the bomb, I'm blown away

'Cause I refuse to hide in a page of this story
I come out the box, I won't say I'm sorry

If you wanna run away with me, I know a galaxy
And I can take you for a ride
I had a premonition that we fell into a rhythm
Where the music don't stop for life
Glitter in the sky, glitter in my eyes
Shining just the way I like
If you're feeling like you need a little bit of company
You met me at the perfect time
I got you, moonlight, you're my starlight

I need you all night, come on, dance with me

I'm levitating

I decided this decision some six months ago
So I'll stick to my guns, but from now on it's war
I am armed with the past, and the will, and a brick
I might not want you back, but I want to kill him

Seeing this band in two weeks with Mrs. NV

I imply to mitigate the guilt, we could align
A perfectly constructed alibi
To hush the violent guilt that eats and never dies
In actual blame, they call me once the dark divides

Simple math, it's why our bodies even lay here
Sinful math, the truth cannot be fashioned
What if you were crazy, would we have to listen then?
What if we've been trying to get to where we've always been?
What if I was wrong, and started trying to fix it?
What if you believed me?
Everything is brilliant

Awesome. I just took them for the category Emo Imo. I remember that you dig them. Have fun.

1. I definitely appreciate the sentiment but sadly have nothing better to do.

2. But there were so many pages here that I lost whatever the thread was.
I really just wanted your reaction to RA saying the most memorable thing about the Marianne and Leonard movie was learning that Cohen was from Montreal.

Before that there was a brief discussion of the origins of Famous Blue Raincoat.

I'm a bit confused about the Tennessee category. It's been described as Songs about Tennessee with an emphasis on Memphis, however, "Honey Don't" by Carl Perkins doesn't mention anything about Tennessee, but it was recorded there. Does this mean the category is also songs affiliated with Tennessee, but not necessarily about?

If you want guidance, go with songs about Tennessee. I'm rolling dice, but I'm letting people police themselves, so if there's a song from or affiliated there I'm not going to get my dander up and give a heavy response. It was confusing at first, so there's leeway, IMO.

Ok. There are tons of songs about Tennessee, but there are also some great songs that were recorded in Tennessee, but don't mention anything about it in the lyrics or title. Since ilove80s veered off the main path with Sun Records/Sun Studios, I was thinking about how much I love Stax/Volt Records and Hi Records/Royal Studios (and even Goldwax) in Memphis. I did already draft one Stax song with Rufus Thomas' The Memphis Train, but it mentions TN.

I'm waiting for a stain to dry on some wood, and I just got back from the colony. Tina (the sick cat) barely touched her food. I'll try again tonight. I forgot to mention while talking about Memphis that my parents had a cat named Memphis. She was a spunky and vocal Siamese. She lived to be around 18 or so. I remember coming home to visit from Florida, and I brought my cats along with me. Memphis beat up my cat, Alex aka Girdie. I'm positive that Alex suffered from PTSD after that.

:lmao:   I must have missed that.  Loved that movie, by the way.

When I suggested the category, I called it, "It Came from Memphis," which would incorporate both songs about Memphis and those that came out of the various scenes there (Sun, Stax, everything else).  The category got a little bastardized after that, but in my initial envisioning of it, that stuff would absolutely be included.

Round 573

Category: Tennessee And Its Cities (It Came From Memphis)

Song: Made In Memphis

or, if this suits the list better

Song: Last Night

Artist: The Mar-Keys

The first house band of Stax Records, the first one incorporates the name of the city and is catchy as heck, but the other one went to #3 on the charts in '61 or '62. It's up to k4 which one she wants as she'll likely be adding the song to the playlist.

Round 573b

Category: Radio, Radio

Song: This Is Radio Clash

Artist: The Clash

Another one from Joe Strummer and the lads, this one incorporates dub and disco into a funky seether.

Here's a song by the great Ann Peebles who was on the Hi Records label in Memphis. The Hi Rhythm Section house band is backing her. It was recorded at Royal Recording Studios in Memphis. There is a live album of hers that was released this year of a 1992 concert.

Troubles, Heartache, & Sadness - Ann Peebles    (Tennessee)

one more...

Little Milton made music for a few labels, and one of them was Stax. This is one of his signature Stax tunes.

Little Bluebird - Little Milton   (Tennessee)

Before that there was a brief discussion of the origins of Famous Blue Raincoat.
There is a lot of interesting stuff related to that song that I didn't mention, but it was a year ago that I read it all, and I can't remember all of it right off hand. Anyway, since the conversation with rock yesterday, I have a relentless earworm of "and Jane came by with a lock of your hair..."  It's on constant loop, and I can't make it stop.  :wall:

I’ll put both Tennessees on the spreadsheet. There are no rules here other than “don’t go to the PSF.”

Radio Clash was on my Radio Radio list.
