symphony? It’s…bittersweet.I'm baffled that the Floyd songs Time, and Wish you were here, have only been selected 2 and 3 times respectively.
I gotta believe that we will see both picked several more times as we go on...... especially wish you were here.......but Time could've easily been my top overall song.
My choice hasn't even been picked yet, so that must mean I have a great chance?Just as a reminder of how math works, songs that have received a lot of votes earlier in the countdown are unlikely to be among the top songs at the end.
Fool In the Rain isn’t my favorite Zep song by any means but it is absolutely remarkable and I can’t stop listening to it. It’s the most pleasant of ear wigs.

Maybe in late SeptemberI know some of his material is filed under "Faces" but surprised to see that Rod Stewart is not cracking the top 100, including one notable song that hasn't even been selected, yet.
IIRC, Crazy Train was being played on my local rock station in 1981, but pretty sure they didn't delve any deeper into Blizzard of Ozz.
Yeah, this was my experience, too. A whole lot of Crazy Train and not much else.

Not "the most popular British song ever" but "the most popular British song ever among middle-aged dummies." There's a difference.Much as I love this thread and most of all of your selections, if Bittersweet Symphony wins out as the most popular British song ever, something will have gone wrong in the universe.
We may need several reminders, as we are middle-aged dummies.Just as a reminder of how math works
Not to be confused with Showroom Dummies. They might show up in the German countdown.we are middle-aged dummies
I know we all know this but for several reasons it wouldn’t even qualify for that title. Just the highest point getter in this format. Essentially nobody thinks Bittersweet Symphony is a better song than While My Guitar Gently Weeps (for example). This format “overvalues” one-hit wonders and popular groups with little depth to their catalog.![]()

The spreadsheet doesn't reflect that he got a pick yesterday and today. He'll move way up based on those two, and he's not done. No idea which song you're referring to, though. Hmmmm.

While you're right to a certain extent, I wouldn't blame the format so much as our use of it. Most of us limited ourselves to one per artist. If we didn't, some of the true favorites would shine through a bit better.
That being said, the top 10 songs shake out to be overwhelmingly from artists with deep catalogs, so it kind of worked itself out anyway.
in reality I think every single one of us limited the selections we took from an artist.
Can't wait for the run on Penny Lane to begin.I also think limiting it to one song per artist made it a lot easier to make the list. I waxed poetic about Zonbie but if I had to put it in a list with 20 Beatles or LZ songs it may finish last in both. I don’t typically think about ranking Zombie vs. Penny Lane.
On that note - Krista, what is the most songs anybody took from one artist? Or do you not want to reveal that yet?
Serious college keg party memories with that song chorus.gotta be Mony, Mony

Please, nothing out of him singing the Great American Songbook.

When you consider what gets played on rock radio, there is one song of his that is most prominent, but when you think of what got the most traction on the pop charts and in the mainstream, that suggests a different one.His "best known" song has not been taken yet.I know some of his material is filed under "Faces" but surprised to see that Rod Stewart is not cracking the top 100, including one notable song that hasn't even been selected, yet.

Yeah, I get what he was saying, but I'm blanking on what his "best known" song would be. I'm open to PM. Tons of Rod Stewart got played where I grew up (as opposed to Ozzy!), so I have several in mind that I think are "notable songs."
Exact same two songs for Elton, and "I Will Follow" is my #two U2 song (right now).I haven't talked up my picks the past few days.
My selection yesterday was "Sunday Bloody Sunday." When JML did the U2 countdown, I mentioned that I had seven songs tied for #1. Eventually I settled on "I Will Follow" for my official choice of #1, but I'd feel comfortable with any of the seven. This was my #2 in that thread, so I decided to elevate it for purposes of this one. Since several other people chose it, I wish I'd gone with another one instead! (There is at least one of my seven that will go undrafted here.) There's already been plenty of discussion of this one by now. I don't particularly care about the lyrics or the political statement, but the sound grabs and excites me from its first notes more than any other U2 song. I could never tire of it and find that I hear it differently nearly every time I listen.
Two days ago, I chose "Rocket Man." I was between this and "Your Song" for my Elton pick, and I'm glad I ended up on this one because, spoiler alert, no one else took it. What the heck?! It's a perfect piece of storytelling and craftsmanship, and has a sentimental value to me that I'm not sharing.
Today, I chose "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding." My Elvis pick was one of the most difficult for me as I could have gone a billion ways (I'm cool and edgy like that), and I felt more than a little guilty about not taking a Costello-penned composition when I think he's one of our greatest songwriters in history. But hey, Nick Lowe is no slouch, either. Although we have established this is MY SONG, it is going to come up again at least one more time, so I'm going to hold off a little on discussion and let anyone with it in their top seven have more fun with it.
I'm admittedly a bit fatigued by the song, but the original MTV video at Red Rocks, with those spectacular views, never gets old.My selection yesterday was "Sunday Bloody Sunday." Fool In the Rain isn’t my favorite Zep song by any means but it is absolutely remarkable and I can’t stop listening to it. It’s the most pleasant of ear wigs.
If I had chosen a Zep song, it would have been this one, even though I figure it's not beloved by hard-core Zep aficionados. Just love it.
I would probably point to D'yer Mak'er there. I feel comfortable that it's not a spoiler at this juncture.Fool In the Rain isn’t my favorite Zep song by any means but it is absolutely remarkable and I can’t stop listening to it. It’s the most pleasant of ear wigs.

I think my comment in Anarchy's thread was this is maybe the most non-Zeppelin like song of theirs that people know. I don't dislike it but I don't think I had it in my top 40. But that's more to how deep their song list is.

What cracks me up is how he sings it. The lyrics, taken by themselves, are pretty flowery and hippyish, not much different from “Share the Land” by The Guess Who. But Elvis Costello sings them like he’s totally pissed off about it: “What’s so funny, eh? What’s so ****ing funny? You’d better be for peace love and understanding….or else I’m going to beat the living **** out of you!”I haven't talked up my picks the past few days.

It's a common theme to my top 10. I can pretend that around half aren't my favorite songs by the artist. I can't pretend that they don't occupy a space in my brain where they (partially) pop up occasionally. Though, considering their ranking, I'm okay with that.Fool In the Rain isn’t my favorite Zep song by any means but it is absolutely remarkable and I can’t stop listening to it. Such a remarkable and great album. IMO, the best thing that Rod Stewart and Ron Wood have ever done. Every song is flawless. The women I've known, I wouldn't let tie my shoesEvery Picture Tells A Story - Rod Stewart

@krista4 , if you haven't picked a superhero yet I present Karolina Dean. She's a huge Beatles fan and even though she doesn't use it much her code name is Lucy in the Sky.
WHOA.

I'm not sure if I should choose a lesbian character. There probably aren't many of them, so might be better left for someone who wants that identifier. Not sure, though.

If you pick her, you definitely have to use "Beatle Fan Krista" as one of your three things about you.@krista4 , if you haven't picked a superhero yet I present Karolina Dean. She's a huge Beatles fan and even though she doesn't use it much her code name is Lucy in the Sky.

Of course, I was considering Brienne, who was a 30something virgin. I'm probably closer to a lesbian than a 30something virgin.![]()
