Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (2 Viewers)

New-to-me favorites from #6:

Supernaut -- Black Sabbath (OH). I'm not familiar with Vol. 4, or pretty much anything else after the first three albums. Holy Hell, what a riff. This is now my highest-ranking new-to-me song, even though it shouldn't have been new to me (remember what I said about not being a metalhead).
Weird record. Might have been the ludicrous amount of cocaine that gave them the courage to indulge all of their best and worst impulses. Hence we get hyper-driven trucker meth like "Cornucopia", the bent-gospel weeper "Changes" and what might be the greatest riff of all time in "Supernaut". We also get the faerie-dance-Renn-fair filler of "Laguna Sunrise" and the hippie bongo nonsense that happens in the middle of "Supernaut". I love this band so much.

Harry you know about

Only kinda, and what I know about him I know about through this board (which means I don't really know much).

I know "Watermelon Sugar" and what it's about. I know the youth go ga-ga and stream him endlessly, and that I think he presented or won a Grammy.

I guess you could say I'm officially old.

a Beatles cover draft

I was thinking about this one while driving today. It seems like a draft format could be best here (as opposed to this format), but a draft is also a pain in terms of having a clock/no clock, etc. What do you guys think? If a draft, what do you think in terms of rounds, clocks, and all that jazz?
Interesting idea. I would almost suggest making it a Beatles/Dylan cover draft but perhaps I am underestimating how many good Beatles covers are out there.

I only like two Eagles songs. One is because I've actually been to Winslow Arizona (which probably wouldn't exist without the song) and the other because I too wish people would get over it.

@Pip's Invitation and @scorchy Y'all must be so excited about the Eagles being in the Super Bowl tomorrow. I'm pulling for the Chiefs, but I don't hate the Eagles. I like to root for a team, and I like Mahomes and Reid, and the Eagles have a lot of mean fans, so I'm going with the Chiefs. I'm hoping for a good game more than anything.
Thanks, Simey. I don't really do "excitement" per se, but my heart rate is up just a bit. :-)

At a few points in my life, I took sports way too seriously (a Gator or Eagles football loss would put in a bad mood for a week) and I recognized a need to chill. That said, we aren't having our regularly scheduled Superbowl get-together b/c the Eagles are in it. Made that mistake 5 years ago (the party was planned before the playoffs started and who knew Nick Foles would turn into Joe Montana?) and I still get crap from friends for going down and watching the second half in the basement with my son just to get away from the all the annoying Ravens fans and folks just interested in the commercials. Over the last several weeks, I've been trying to remind myself to enjoy the ride and not focus on the ultimate outcome, because even if they lose, it's still the best all-around Eagles team I've had the privilege of rooting for (and I had season tix during much of the Reid/McNabb era).

As for the fans, sure some are mean, and no doubt certain Philadelphians relish the reputation. On the other hand, I don't think Eagles fans are as far outside the norm as the stories would lead you to believe, and after living in the midst of other fanbases during my life, I'll take their passion and knowledge over most other fanbases I encounter. I do avoid the Eagles threads in Shark Pool though - not because my fellow fans are mean, but because a few make it unreadable.

OK, done with that. Now on with the countdown...

Boooooooooooooo

Totally agree, although most Giants fans I know will say otherwise. Same with the Phillies/Mets. Truth is, Northeastern fans tend to be uber passionate but also, in many cases, ********.

Iggles fans aren't any worse than any other sports fanbase. They have a really heavy presence on this board, though.
I don't know. My neighbors went to the NFC Championship in 2003 in Philly, and they got beer thrown on them and spat on. There is a reason there was a jail and courtroom in that stadium. Maybe all fan bases do that, but I've never heard about that at the Panthers stadium, but sometimes that stadium is about half full with fans from the visiting teams. Anyway, as I said I don't hate the Eagles. I pulled for them against NE in both Super Bowls. I liked the team back when McNabb was the QB. He was my fantasy QB for multiple years. I've always liked Andy Reid. My BIL and one of my nephews will be pulling for Philly tonight. My BIL grew up outside of Philly until they moved when he was in junior high.

I think there's always going to be a few bad apples in most stadiums, particularly in the upper Northeast. Your neighbors unfortunately may have gotten a bad luck of the draw in where they sat. Surprisingly, when I went the Jets/Patriots game up in Foxboro this season, I didn't get any abuse whatsoever alone in my Jerricho Cotchery jersey. I'm sure they just felt sorry for me though.

You ever meet a Ravens fan in purple camouflage? He (or she) is usually named some form of "Donnie/Dawnie" and lives in the basement of their grandma's rowhouse in Dundalk. Said grandma drinks a case of Mountain Dew a day while watching Judge Judy marathons and complains that "they" are ruining everything, while her 9 million grand-brats run the streets. The local cops set up an office on her front porch go save on gas.

Yeah, it's really a regional thing as opposed to a one-city thing. It's just been popular for the media to dunk on Philly fans after the booing Santa Claus incident, which by the way happened 55 YEARS AGO.

There have been fewer bad apples since the Linc opened, because much of the riff-raff was priced out.

The Santa Claus from the Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer holiday special deserved to be booed, but that's for another thread.

I was gonna write the same thing. I had season tickets at the Vet from 97-02 and saw a lot of crazy stuff. I gave them up when the Eagles moved to the Linc because (a) they doubled the price and (b) my season ticket partner moved down to NC. I've been going to 2-3 games a year since and the atmosphere, while still intense, is noticeably less drunk and mean. Sure, you'll still get heckled if you wear an opposing jersey, but most of it is pretty good-natured.

The worst opposing fan behavior I ever encountered was in Knoxville, TN in 1990 (chanting about the Gainesville student murders) and then in Athens, GA in 1995 (during the two-year period that UF/UGA wasn't in Jax) when we got hit with red solo cups full of tobacco juice. Yum.

I loved Jerricho when he played for NC State. Rivers to Cotchery ...Touchdown!
He was my neighbor when I lived in Watchung. Guy pulled his own garbage cans to the curb.
I'm glad that Jerricho got to experience going to the Super Bowl when he was with the Panthers. That was a great season for them. I wish they would have won the SB.

I have one of those too. Still the one I wear the most.

They booed Mike Schmidt too.

That is awful. I lived in Orlando when those murders happened. Didn't school just start for the Fall semester at UF? I remember my Aunt (who worked at UF) saying that some parents were pulling their kids out of school.

Yep. They happened in August of my freshman year. After the fourth and fifth murders, UF canceled classes for several days - I went to stay for a weekend at my cousin's house in Jacksonville. Still feels like it happened just yesterday - get chills just typing about it.
