Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (3 Viewers)

Anyone else find it impossible to do only one song per artist? I mostly did one per, but there are a few artists that I could not.....and no way I was leaving em off. Its the music I listen to all the time still
Oh, 100%. I've been rekindling my love with Radiohead this last year. As soon as I hit send, I had regrets of not doing 10+ songs.

Instead, while I wait for this to kick off I am going to attempt to make a side list of my favorite 36 songs of theirs for S & Gs.

Artist update after 15 lists tabulated:

Lists #11-15 had a very different feel than #1-10, with a lot more hard rock and heavy metal. Some bands I had been surprised not to see earlier finally showed up, and even did very well, as mentioned yesterday. One artist that had struck out suddenly found itself with seven votes for 154 points, while another went from zero to 117 points, and a third gained a total of 100 points from four lists.

At the top of the charts, our #2 and #3 artists switched places again, and I expect that the Big Three will continue to sort and re-sort themselves. All three have over 400 points at this point, and they each have 12-14 different songs represented. Voter #4 has been joined by others, as two of the three have now "only" been represented on 12 of 15 lists.

We have a new #4 and #5 that are within two points of each other! They're coming at it different ways, though, with one garnering their points from only six different songs, while the other has 11.

No one wants the Ace Award. Every time an artist moves into the lead, I swear on the next list someone takes a different song of theirs. Our new leader for the award does have four votes for their one and only song, so fingers crossed.

Here's a little guessing game (if you chose these, you don't get to guess!): there are two songs that have been selected that feature a current top 10 artist covering a song by another top 10 artist.
More hard rock and metal? Are Manster, Sullie and KarmaPolice in this batch?

Hey Krista I don’t know if this is already a category but I would like to know which person chooses the most songs that nobody else selected.
That was probably me in the US Born thread...it probably won't be this time around though.

You or Manster, I’d think. I’m not in front of a computer right now. In the parking lot waiting for the booze store to open. The grocery was out of kirsch for our Christmas fondue!

My list is a bit more varied than the US one, but depending how she qualifies it you know there is some on mine in some form.

KP was. Manster will be in the next batch.

I think I submitted in that range she mentions - and while I’m not in that crowd necessarily, I definitely have heavier songs on this list than the last. Not sure if any are metal but 3-4 heavy hard rock songs I believe.

This morning I learned there is a review booth for bull-riding competitions.

Anyway, here are my WAGs for how some of this will shake out:

1. The Beatles will have the most unique spins.
2. The Abbey Road Medley will be their top point-scorer.
3. The highest-scoring Stones tune will be "Can't You Hear Me Knocking".
4. "Levee" for Zep.
5. Bowie will have the 2nd-most unique selections.
6. I'm thinking "Heroes" will garner the most Bowie points.
7. "One" for U2.
8. Elton will have the 3rd most unique songs.
9. "Yellow Brick Rd" for Sir Elton.
10. Dusty will be the highest-charting lady.
11. I guess "Baba O'Riley" for the Who.
12. Everyone will pick the wrong Kinks record.

some excellent stuff here UH

but this one ...hoo boy

UH while coming up with #3 - highest scoring Stones song being "Can't You Hear Me Knocking"

I don’t get it - I think a lot of people love that song and it’s been big in pop culture for a long time, recently even making it into a SpiderMan movie.

I don't think kirsch is essential unless you're hosting the Swiss ambassador or something. There's such a small amount in a fondue and the alcohol boils off. I've gotten by with brandy or apple juice as a substitute.

I definitely went a little more rock/metal in this one. I would have had more in the US one too but Lars and Tommy Lee kinda ruined it.

Yeah, we've substituted before in a pinch, but I figured I'd give it one more shot. The liquor store had it, so we're all set!

UH taking a lot of heat from a bunch of dummies who won't even hazard their own guesses.

(Actually JWB, who is not the same as jwb, did send me some guesses before.)

heh this could get confusing.

I'm abbreviating everyone on the lists I'm keeping, and Just Win Baby's list came in before yours, so I made him "JWB." Then realized it was going to wreak havoc with my search feature. Luckily I gave everyone a number this time, too, so I just do the searches that way. :)

For a minute before I had my coffee this morning I thought UH referred to Uncle Humana which would have been a Xmas miracle

Lars, and Tommy Lee ruin EVERYTHING

Jeez, go away for a few days and end up 10 pages behind...

Good news: road tripping around MD/PA/DE/VA let me go through my initial list of 80+ songs twice, much to my son's chagrin.

Bad news: I brought my nice headphones with me, and re-listening at night would mess with the rankings I developed in my head while driving. Not quite sure what to do with that.

Headed back to page 15 now.

That was my first thought too 😂

I miss Humana and T-bone (and ACP, Tufnel, et.al.).

And why isn’t @El Floppo participating in these threads?

I have one artist with two songs. I may have another. I'm still trimming the herd.
I have one artist in particular who I just COULD NOT choose between the two songs I hand narrowed it down to......and I did not expect to do two songs from this particular artist.

Our style guide at work says the word "data" is plural. So that's how we use it. In common use, it's usually treated as singular.
Our style guide says the same thing and I hate it. Also notes that the plural of Appendix is Appendixes and not Appendices. No sir. We also just received a new document about using person-centered language. I'm certainly on board with the sentiment, but when your job focuses on people served by Federal programs (see, I can use person-centered language), it can lead to some pretty brutal phrasing. Definitely goes against our #1 directive: be clear and concise.

I've just read more than 200 posts about music without a reply but feel the need to respond to one about usage/grammar. I don't like what that says about me.

And I’d love at some point to see a list of all the songs that were only chosen once. I figure I might learn about some great music I’ve been missing that way.

This would be easy to provide. Would you like the one from the US countdown?
I’d love it. Thank you

I'm going to have to break this up into a few posts due to character limits. And put them in spoilers. Here are those with one vote and 31-24 points. You'll note that "only selected once" doesn't necessarily mean "obscure."
