Getcha passports ready - the middle-aged dummies are going to the British Isles! Top 31 song countdown. (3 Viewers)

Omg, so many lists. It's great, but a lot have come in already and I'm very behind. For now can only concentrate on vetting (I have three still in the queue for that) and can't get to collating data and seeing trends. I can say that while there are some artists well represented, I can't see a pattern in any top songs yet. This one could be hard to predict.

:lmao:

I mentioned last year this time that I get SAD (seasonal affective disorder, such a perfect acronym). You doofuses cheered me up. Thanks!

I'm stuck on 20 and the long list, oddly missing many of the biggest acts ever to come from the region, is now over 70. I did pick a Beatles tune and rank it 31st to taunt krista. I'm heavy on the 80s and the 2nd invasion. Just what I'm currently enjoying the most. I asked if there's a secret to vetting. I found it. Coffee.

I won't add to your workload. Not any time soon anyway. I'll submit an ever-changing list right on the deadline.

If others could help with notes on the vetting process, it would be beneficial.
Based on the ineligible members Krista has listed for Traffic, that makes the following albums eligible:

I guess it depends on how granular we get. On Mr Fantasy the actual credits on the album per wiki, Jimmy Miller played on Dear Mr. Fantasy so I think that disqualifies that song.
Traffic looks good to me, doesn't seem that Miller played on any tracks.
Last Exit Side 2 looks good, Side 1 has a few tracks ineligible due to Miller.
John Barleycorn Must Die looks good.

Once more...

Who played on which track is not the issue. Who is a band member is the question. Jimmy Miller is not listed as a band member on Mr. Fantasy or Last Exit, so he does not make any song thereon ineligible. :)

So this makes a song with a feature vocalist not in the band eligible? I hate to bother you, but this is specific to a song I'd like to pick.

That's treated exactly the same as in the last countdown. If they are "featured" as in credited as part of the artist name when paired with the song title, then they have to be eligible. If not, then they're OK.

And if you have a question about one, just send to me and I'll let you know. :)

geez RA, hand bar soap on the sink stand was the standard for years. We had two, one regular soap and the other was Lava soap, for us kids with grimy hands - took a layer of skin off with all the pumice in it.

Totally. Same here. But things have evolved and it's gross to think of now. But yes, hand soap, dishes, and stands were the norm for us, too. Until Softsoap and the individual dispensers came out. But grabbing that teddy? Oh my.

did you read the article?

you'll love this ...the "fur" is actually mold spores!!! :lmao:
Aaaaand we're back to the Addams Family. That stuff is disgusting.

Vetting on this one is more interesting than the US, as I'm learning about a lot of new places. Today, I learned the Isle of Barra exists!

Unfortunately, with plenty of notable exceptions, on average the pictures that I end up seeing for these folks on Wiki or elsewhere are a bit uglier than the US people were.

Quite honestly, one of the reasons I could never get into Queen was Freddie's overbite. I just could not fathom someone so obviously disfigured would prance around so pompously and unabashedly. Meanwhile, I'm screaming "someone call an orthodontist, stat! We've got an extreme case, here. One of the worst I've ever seen!"
He was afraid that fixing the problem would alter his voice.

Have you ever looked at Lemmy? Aaiiieee!

Listen everyone, I know we're a bunch of dummies but it would be nice of everyone to actually read through the thread before asking the same type of questions over and over. It's really not fair to krista, who is a real human being with an actual job, as well as doing yeoman's work in here. I'd get a bit frustrated if I had to keep responding to the same type of questions when the answers are here in the thread and she's somehow kept her composure thus far.

I don't know whether to hit laugh, like, love, thanks, crying, or thinking here, but I wanted to say thank you! :)

i hope this wasn't in response to my question. I was trying to be helpful.

Different question. I know you said links are good, and said spotty or youtube is fine. But do you have a preference?

I don't at all. When people don't send links, I tend to grab a YouTube one because I know we have a few people who don't use Spotify. Spotify could be more helpful to @Hawks64, though? Maybe he could say if he cares. But for me, whatever is easier for you guys is fine. I'm just happy so many people are sending them this time!

Not to speak for Dr. O, but absolutely not related to your question.

No - it was a general statement about the same types of questions about eligibility over and over.

I'd prefer Spotify if you want a specific version, helps tremendously when there are 85 recordings of said song :lmao:

Luís Alberto Figueira Gonçalves Jardim disqualifies The The's 2nd album, Infected. The third release, Mind Bomb, with Johnny Marr and James Eller is good to go.

Thank you - will add to post #3.

Now I'm not so sure. I see he is listed as "personnel" on that album, distinguishing him from others, but he is not listed on Wiki anywhere as being an actual member of the band. I'd say we are OK here.

ETA: And that band is not even listed anywhere on his own Wiki page.

Is there any other resource you guys are using other than Wiki and Google to vet these? I've tried for a couple groups to find information on members but can't find anything.

The Isle of Barra, if I'm not confusing it with some other random Scottish island, is notable for its airport being basically a shed next to a beach which constitutes the runway, and is a go to place for many aviation geeks

If I see any other random trivia points I will continue to derail the thread
