How bout concert wishlist? As someone who is crowd averse, it's got to be someone I really want to see ...

Melvins.....one of those bands that I think live is waaaay better than albums

Elder.....they made it Portland last August and I couldn't make it, dang it!

Truckfighters....really cool Swedish band

The Dead South....I think they would be really fun

Tool....I've had chances, but I've never done it....yea, I suck

And if I could go back in time to see one band it would be Pink Floyd with Waters, Gilmour, Mason, and Wright.

That was the first concert teenage Eephus went to at Milwaukee County Stadium. Tickets were $7.50 which tells you how long ago it was. :bag:

I also never saw Elton John and wish I had.

I've seen Elton 7 times tying him with Santana for whom I've seen the most. #7 was November 17th in Dodger Stadium. The last US stop for the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. He's doing 50 some shows in the UK before calling it quits. You should do it. It's not that I am such a huge fan, he's just been very accessible for me. And wow is he as consistent as Petty. So many great songs, it's hard to pick one, and I may choose two.

My big whiffs are Radiohead and Led Zeppelin. Chose Journey over Led Zep one lost weekend in the late 70s. Oof.

Also, agree with Shuke. Would love to see Arcade Fire.

Whoa. I have been too US-centric and didn't think of this. It just so happens that I'm going to be in London/Liverpool at exactly the time he'll have shows in Birmingham, Aberdeen, and Glasgow. I just emailed my BFF, who lives in London, to see if she'd want to go. Her husband is from Birmingham, so maybe they could be convinced to go up (or at least she could, since I really can't stand him). Thank you for mentioning this!!

I had a harder time with him than any other artist in trying to narrow down to one song. I might still change it up and pick a second one.

I saw Arcade Fire at Lollapalooza in 2005, and it's still one of the best performances I've ever seen. That's the Lolla where Anton from the Brian Jonestown Massacre asked me to marry him.

I've never seen Dylan or Neil Young, I'd like to before it's too late.

Of bands I haven't seen, Arcade Fire and War on Drugs are my biggest wishes.
I have seen three of those four artists, all at least twice.

Oddly, the one I haven’t seen is War on Drugs, even though they’re from Philly, where I’m from. They emerged after I stopped paying much attention to new music.

I'm super jealous

Journey over Zep? Musta been thinkin with ur johnson

My top 6 bands in rough order:
  1. Led Zeppelin - never saw, too young
  2. Tom Petty - I have seen him several times
  3. Pearl Jam - I have seen them several times
  4. Foo Fighters - have never seen them, and sad that I never will with Hawkins -- big regret
  5. Linkin Park - have never seen them, and it isn't clear they will carry on without Chester, so missed the chance -- big regret
  6. Dave Matthews Band - I have seen them several times

My daughter & I had tickets to Foo Fighters last year in Minneapolis. What a disappointment that was (not to minimize Hawkins' death at all). They sent out a fan mail notice saying they plan to carry on, so there's that.

Time machine in hand I'd go see:
Ultimate Sin era Ozzy Osbourne
Who's Next era The Who
Pyromania Def Leppard
Any era Bob Seger
I'd think and probably go to Berlin, even today.

I haven’t been to too many concerts, but I did go to a Dylan concert. It was joint billing with Tom Petty, but they performed little jointly. It was this one. Dylan did his set, and then Petty came out to perform his. Dylan came out to perform Knocking on Heaven’s Door and Baby, Please Don’t Go with the Heartbreakers at the end.

Definitely a different energy in the performances. Dylan not one to interact with the crowd. It was good to see Dylan to say that I did though.

Saw Seger twice. First time around 15 yrs ago, and he brought Springsteen out for Old Time Rock n Roll.

Then I saw the farewell tour. Really great sets, both of them. Nice to see him break out "Tryin' to Live My Life Without You" at the first and "Come to Poppa" at the 2nd show.

I've only seen him once. It was Bob Dylan, so there's that, but the show wasn't great. I enjoyed Merle Haggard opening for him more than I did Dylan's set.

Same experience for me.

I've seen Dylan once and he was awful. Couldn't understand a word and he'd be halfway through a song before I would realize which song he was singing--and they were his well known songs. And I'm a big Dylan fan and know his songs very well. It was a very strange set.

My Morning Jacket opened for him and they were far, far better.

I saw Dylan at a small 1,500 capacity venue in the late 90s and he was amazing. Was ripping the hell out of a Strat. Maybe my favorite show ever. I've seen him a handful of times in larger venues and he's been less than great each time.

I just looked up the capacity of where I saw him - the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. It holds 3875 people. Not huge, but maybe enough difference to matter. Funny part I forgot to mention - OH was at this show, too, but we didn't know each other at the time.

That's still fairly intimate for a Dylan show. Bummer he didn't deliver.

I've seen Elton twice. The first time was in 1989. He was great, but the thing I remember the most about the show was when one of my friends asked a security guard that was standing beside her if she could shoot off his flare gun during the encore. He thought she was serious, and he gave her a lecture on how they don't carry flare guns, and how dangerous it would be to shoot it off inside the venue. He attempted to move away from her some, but his post was right around her chair at the end of the aisle. The encore started, and I can't remember the first song Elton played, but the last one was Rocket Man, and when the chorus would start she would raise both hands in the air like she was shooting off flares. She was so obnoxious back then. Anyway, I remember Elton was wearing a hat, a bright jacket, and he had some great female backup singers with him. I saw him again in 2013, and again he was great. No hat, but his jacket sparkled on stage. He is a great showman.

I saw him in Veags in.. 2016 I think. I surprised my wife with tickets for our last night there. Were pricey but it's Elton. He was really good - he sounded just ok, but that's to be expected at this point in his career. But he was quite the showman, his band was fantastic, and he did all the songs you wanted to hear. Glad I got to see him.

I went to a Farm Aid in 2013. So worth it - got to see Neil, Willie, Mellencamp, Dave Matthews... they even brought Pete Seeger out and they all sang "This Land is Your Land" with him.

I saw Neil with POTR in 2015. That was a great show too. I didn't get the Cortez encore I was hoping for (that came a night or two later) but I did get a 12-minute Cowgirl in the Sand

I've seen Neil at a couple Farm Aids, and again in '91 with Crazy Horse in Florida. The guy I was with at the Florida show slept during the concert. That relationship ended quick. j/k Neil hasn't played in the last couple Farm Aids, because he says he doesn't want to be a reason someone catches Covid.

I did get Cortez on that tour — I think we’ve discussed this before.

Dylan is notoriously inconsistent as a live performer. What is consistent is that his live arrangements bear no resemblance to the studio arrangements. The X-Factor is whether he cares that night. It’s a trainwreck if he doesn’t.

I’ve been lucky that I’ve seen Dylan 4 times and gotten no trainwrecks.
I saw him twice. Once in Atlantic City and him and his band were awesome. Very fun show.

Second was at Madison Square Garden where he played with Paul Simon. Each would play a set, then a few songs together. Dylan wasn’t terrible, but it was a lethargic set. Paul and his band blew them away (insert Late in the Evening joke here).

29 fully vetted and eligible lists are in. Just when I think stuff is settling in, a few lists come in that throw everything in a different direction. The only consistencies have been (1) the Big Three are the Big Three, and (2) the #1 song continues to be a landslide. But the "next tier" of 7-8 artists continue to switch around a bit, with one artist that had significantly underperformed expectations getting a big push from the last few lists. On songs, we have a non-Big Three artist that had the #2 song spot in early going but now has a different song that has passed their prior song and is at #4 overall. In addition, the song that had occupied the #2 slot for the vast majority of the time has now also been surpassed by a brand-spanking-new #2.

With only 29 lists in and expectations of up to 45 (though I'm sure some won't arrive), I'm concerned about a Friday surge.

This is one that go back and forth on. On one hand, they are one of my favorite bands and I think it would be cool to cross them off my list of concerts. On the other hand, their tix have been quite pricey the last couple times there's been a show near us, and I know the reputation of them just standing and playing and Maynard largely singing in the because it "should be about the music". Can't convince myself it would be worth the 100s of dollars.

My wishlist would start with something like Maiden and Pearl Jam. Two of my favorite bands, but I've never seen either. PJ is a bit because they grew on me later in life, their tix are also crazy expensive and I sort of feel like I've seen them 100s of times live because of how accessible they are with their fans and how many live shows I've seen and heard of theirs. For Maiden, embarrassingly I think it's because I've thought something on the lines of "these dudes are ancient, probably not going to be able to bring it live anymore, etc.. ". I've been thinking that for 20+ damn years, and each year I just see more and more posts about how they are still just as great live and indeed still do bring it.

Others at the top would be The Black Keys, Dinosaur Jr, Run the Jewels.
Also for how amazing it was and how great the show sounded, I will be trying to catch Opeth any time they are within about a 10hour drive radius. I need to catch them again.

That was a great listen, thanks. That would have been an epic show. I wish that video still had the early versions of Sheep and Dogs though.

1. I have no clue what this is.
2. You might have a looong weekend ahead of you. Stock up on that wine! ;)

Finally, Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me" is getting its due.
You ***, now I have that song in my head.

I’m very curious as well. I’m sure it will be obvious when it’s revealed - maybe it’s my guess in the contest.
I suspect it’s a Stone’s song.
I keep going back to thinking most of the "Big 3" having a wide variety of songs that are popular here. I am having a hell of a time with the contest question because of that - having trouble thinking of any of their #1 with a bullet type of song.

How bout concert wishlist?
Foo Fighters
Elton John
Paul McCartney
Stevie Wonder
Ah, that would be a fun one as well.

Another I just thought of would be Muse. I don't love much of their new stuff, but I guarantee the show is still worth it.
I have a buddy that is a fan. Saw them at a festival in Germany 15-20 years ago. Fun show. Saw Anthrax there as well.
Anthrax opened for Muse? That's a weird paring. ;)

Same festival, Anthrax was on a side stage. Nickelback was there too. Yes, I’ve seen Nickelback in the flesh, you jelly?

The reason I’m guessing the Stones is that I think they have fewer obvious choices than the other two.

I’m probably wrong.
