Getting solicitations from Financial firms for free dinner with a talk - worth it? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I am at that age that I am starting to get letters from different financial institutions for a free dinner with a talk that they give. I am just wondering if anyone did this and is it worth it?

We already have a financial advisor so I won't be switching but a free meal and a talk doesn't sound bad.

How aggressive are they during their pitch?

Thanks!

Yeah, no way I'm doing that for just a meal if I have no desire to work with them.

Now, if it's a round at an exclusive golf course that I can't otherwise get on....different discussion

I did that a few times when I got to the age where I would need the service. I did not have an advisor at the time. I did learn quite a few things during the meetings and eventually settled on a FA.
If you already have a FA, I don't see the point of going to one of these unless you are not currently happy with your situation.

I get ones for Mastros. The wife and consider going just for schtick purposes. Act either dirt poor or obscenely rich. Can’t decide.

I haven't been to one but I get the invites all the time. They are always for one of our local high end restaurants and it's for 2 people. I've been tempted. '

Sorry if it was misleading, but I am not just going for the free meal. The talk does sound interesting and figured I would learn a few things before retirement.
