LOTS of people are happy tonight.

I'm wondering who is the happiest (aside from Giants players/coaches/fans)?

I'm guessing Mercury Morris is giddy and can't wait to tell everyone that the 72 Dolphins remain the only undefeated team in history.

Mercury Morris probably will be able to cash in on some talk shows after this.

Guessing Peyton feels like this is the second best thing to whipping the Pats himself.

History in the making...back to back MVPs by brothers.

I feel as happy as I did when the Steelers won SB XL, seriously, justice is a dish best served cold to the cheaters. THANK YOU

G-MEN !!!!

I want to hear Morris rap again about being the only undefeated team.

Congrats and welcome to the new head coach of the the Washington Redskins: Steve Spagnuolo

Thought he would probably get the job anyway, but I think this clinches it.

Now that's something that might not be duplicated again. Unless of course it's Peyton and Eli.

This reminds me of the Steelers victory in SB 40... Although it was no where near as good as game!!

Congrats Giants

:lmao:

I'm thinking Vinatieri had a bit of a smile go across his face. He's won a ring without being on the Pats and they passed up a FG opportunity in a game they lost by a field goal. Not an easy one but I bet Belichick trots Vinatieri out there to kick it if he had him.

They really need to stop talking to the '72 Dolphins. Just shut up already.
At first I was thinking that this was the only negative to tonight's events. But I no longer feel that way. Every time I hear those good ole BORES talking about themselves now, I'm going to remember tonight's game, and that will put a smile on my face. Thanks again, Giants!

Would somebody please remove Mercury Morris' head from his ###. I'm not sure he can tell the difference anymore. I don't like the Pats but they would have kicked the living #### out of the '72 Dolphins.

I didn't think it would take very long:
Any shots of the '72 Dolphins drinking their champagne yet?
thats the only bad thing about the Patriots losing
:lmao: but given that it was either one or the other, it was by far the better option as far as I'm concerned -- besides, once they start talking, the Dolphins will almost certainly come off as even bigger blowhards than they already are -- if that's possible.

Yuck... I just saw a reebok commercial with Manning delivering the game ball to Morris saying enjoy it for another year. Morris is the biggest tool, d-bag in the history of the NFL.And I forgot classless.

Nobody disputes that. New England would beat the '72 Dolphins by 50 points. You have to compare apples to apples, meaning you can't compare athletes in 2008 to athletes in 1972. The '72 Dolphins scored the most points in the NFL, and gave up the fewest. Think about that. They also had to beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship game due to a stupid rotation rule back then. That Miami team can crow all they want to, even though we're all sick of hearing it. They have every right.

I think if we want to create a balance in the equation and when we do that I think most people are going to say that this era is far more difficult to play in then the 70's. Salary cap creating parity, better preperation, better athletes, and technological advancement would all suggest to me that it is not that it is unfair to compare the Pats to the Dolphins, it is unfair to compare the Dolphins to the Pats.

And I would argue that because of parity...it could been seen easier to go undefeated today as opposed to then. My meaning is...if you are infact, able to build a dynasty...and no doubt, New England is a dynasty...then they should be able to roll over the other teams easier than if there were more pinnacle teams as in the past.Consider boxing...some would argue that Tyson's run through the heavyweight ranks early on...doesn't compare to Ali's or a lot of the other great because there was no great opponent.

New England had Indy a few times here and there...losing last year to them and now to the Giants...but who can you point to as being that big opponent like those of the past...name those great teams...they had to beat great teams in order to standout.

To me...parity means that the worst teams are no longer as bad as they used to be...but it also means there are fewer truly GREAT teams.

Like you, tdoss, I don't agree with the conventional wisdom. To me, it's another lazy media point that gets repeated over and over again until most everyone believes it. In fact, it's not even argued much, so I'm happy to find I'm not the only one who is thinking oppositely here.Looking at the big picture -- parity is considered to be a byproduct of draft order, free agency and the salary cap. I believe that an argument can be made that free agency and a salary cap present the opportunity for teams to overcome low draft picks assigned due to having very good records. In other words, if free agency can be mastered (a huge if, I'll admit), then it's actually easier to sustain a team than when the draft was the predominant (and mostly only) way teams acquired talent.Bottom line is that with regular season records of 14-2 (after a 13-0 start), two teams going 15-1, and one 16-0 in recent years, the proof may very well simply be in the pudding. Few five-year stretches of NFL history show as many teams with these high regular season winning percentages. More importantly, the current Patriots, Colts, Seahawks and Steelers have more or less owned their divisions for long stretches. That doesn't sound like an era of great parity.Personally, I think parity is even more overrated when it comes to championships. The 1970s and 1980s NFL may have been more challenging at the top because there were many good teams and also many bad teams. Sure, parity improves the weak teams, but it can just as easily dilute the top challengers to the crown as it can the champion. The bottom line is that winning multiple championships in any era is noteworthy, as would be an undefeated season, but it is never easy to compare teams from different areas, and certainly not as simple as the media would have you believe.
