Gibril Wilson? (1 Viewer)

Just picked Gibril up in a trade and now see he's listed as Questionable with a toe injury. Didn't see the injury on my USA Today report prior to the trade. Anyone know what's up with him and if you think he'll go tomorrow?

Teammate stepped on his foot. Apparently so severely that he needed a toenail removed after Friday's practice. He'll probably play.Link from Newsday

Thank You. A toenail doesn't sound all that bad. At least it's a 1pm game. Seems like he was a late addtion to the injury report. That will teach me to not look a few day old injury report.

Jene-You are the man. You are one of the main reasons FBG is my MAIN source for FFL info and especially IDP info.

Keep up the fantastic work. :pics:

I'm glad you posted it. I noted the toe thing, saw the Rotoworld blurb and assumed he was good to go this afternoon. I took another look while submitting my lineups tonight and was about to post something and saw you already had. It's yet another reason to not blindly trust Rotoworld/KFFL etc without going to the primary source. Rotoworld, in their extra blurb, suggests that Wilson practiced all week and is likely to play.

Giants S Gibril Wilson (toe) was downgraded to questionable on Friday.

Wilson reportedly stubbed his toe and needed to have his toenail removed. He practiced fully nonetheless and should play in Week 6.
But when you look at the NYC primary sources (Newsday, NYPost, and Bergen Record mention the injury), they all state that the injury happened during practice Friday. All of them note that this is a concern because Wilson's backup is dinged as well. Nowhere does it say Wilson is expected to play.I don't see any reason that Wilson won't play -- a cracked toenail is painful but it really isn't a huge issue for a professional football player. But Wilson probably didn't finish practice with this injury. Probably won't matter in this case, but you'll usually get better information from the primary source.

Newsday

Safety Gibril Wilson was inactive yesterday after having the nail on his right big toe removed Friday.
To be fair, he had his entire big toenail removed, which isn't commonly done unless there's a suspicion of a larger injury (eg. laceration requiring repair) underneath. Still, while painful and on the big toe, I'm surprised he couldn't play 36 hours later.

:( Had a birthday party for youngest grandson at noon, took a very costly zero.

 to 4 - Digit Shark & Jene for the pregame update on this one.

Anyone hear anything yet about his status for next week? I know its early, but just curious. He was dropped outright in my league and I was thinking of picking him up in favor of Kerry Rhodes, but I already have A. Pierce and Osi, so I am thinking I have too many giants at this point.

GOOD TOE GO: S Gibril Wilson, who missed the Falcons game with an injured right big toe, said he'll be able to play against the Cowboys. "It's healing pretty fast," he said. Wilson's toenail was ripped off when a teammate stepped on him Friday, and he needed stitches to close a gash in his toe and to sew the nail back on. "It's a very unusual injury," Tom Coughlin said. "He is sore. Hopefully he'll be able to control that, but we'll see."
 :X :yucky:

I saw that and came here to answer my own question. thanks guys.

On a seperate note, is it a bad thing to load up on Giants defensive players? I already have Osi and A. Pierce. If I dump Kerry Rhodes for Gibril, that would mean that 3 out of my 5 defensive players would be giants. Thoughts?

I have both Pierce and Gibril. I don't mind it because they both usually put up good numbers every week. Since the Giants have already passed their bye, I'd say there's no problem with doing it because both Pierce and Wilson should have very good numbers this year, along with Osi.

Man... ever had a big toe nail completely removed? That is some serious pain to play with. I'd probably need a novacaine injection. Even wearing a sneaker feels like a woman's spike heeled shoe on your toe with a hundred pounds of wieght on it... not that I would know what that feels like....

Thanks Raven.

No rovers, never can say i had my big toe nail completely removed and I hope i never do, because it does sound painful as hell. I've had about half of it rip off and that was the worst, but i was fine in a little more than a week if i can remember right, so if he's been out for about 2 weeks now, he should be feeling fine at this point.

Can we have the original post edited for his week 7 status?

Here's the latest from kffl.

Giants | Wilson could practice later this week

Wed, 18 Oct 2006 13:55:41 -0700

New York Giants S Gibril Wilson (toe) could attempt to practice Thursday, Oct. 19, despite having his right big toenail removed completely during practice last week. Head coach Tom Coughlin is not optimistic that the swelling and pain has sufficiently subsided for Wilson to practice. If Wilson were unable to play in Week 7, S Jason Bell would take his place.

Giants | G. Wilson practices Friday

Fri, 20 Oct 2006 18:37:47 -0700

New York Giants SS Gibril Wilson (toe) practiced Friday, Oct. 20 and will be a game-time decision for the Week 7 game. Head coach Tom Coughlin said he practiced with two different shoes on his right foot. One was bigger and more open with the toe that had the nail torn off. He is listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

Seems to risky to start Gibril this week unless you have no other legitimate option.

Since he is looking to be a GTD, who would replace him if he sat. I can sit him on Monday, but I gotta have a suitable backup in there. Does anyone know who will be playing in his spot if he doesn't play?

EDIT: Nevermind, read it above Jason Bell, sorry just tired....
