Gin (1 Viewer)

Bombay Sapphire East

features all of the botanicals from Bombay Sapphire (juniper, grains of paradise, lemon peel, cubeh berries, coriander seeds, angelica root, almond, orris, and licorice) and then adds lemongrass and black pepper. These two new botanicals clearly stand out in the nose of the Bombay Sapphire East Gin, giving it a spicier and fuller nose. The lemongrass seems to also boost the lemon in the nose and the black pepper boosts the juniper. Other than that, the nose is fairly true to Bombay Sapphire.
Spot on review. I like it; I like it a lot.

Put a hurting on a bottle of Botanist with the wife this weekend. She didnt realize she liked gin until she mixed this with some limeade and ice.

Went out to dinner Saturday night and tried Gin 209 from San Francisco which I found to be far to sweet. Followed that up with a glass of Ransom Old Tom which had more of a spicy citrus taste to it. I really enjoyed the Ransom and will be buying a bottle of it this week to sit next to my 1/4 full bottle of Botanist.

We've got distilleries popping up like crazy here in Northern Colorado. I've been hitting Spring 44 and Dancing Pines a bit lately but my new go to is easily the Leopold's Navy Strength. It's gotten me through some stressful times at work over the last few months!
same... brooklyn seems to have a bunch. just tried two different brooklyn gins. still prefer boodles or hendricks, but they weren't bad. better than tanqueray.

MrsKanil gave me a bottle of Ironface for my birthday this morning.  Supposedly really good.  Will report results tomorrow.
happy bd!

now, wtf aren't you already drinking that stuff? we need reports asap. also nice to get back into G&T weather... had some fancier mixes (w/ Hendricks) at a nice restaurant that added cracked pepper and mint- was very tasty.

####ing work... I run an IT Support group and we've had a major outage going on for the last week.  No time off for me in the neat future.

Gins we keep in the house:

Bluecoat - really like this one, and it's brewed in Philly by an independent guy (UPenn grad that I had dinner with once).
Philadelphia Distilling now has an awesome new location in NoLibs.  Had a gimlet for the first time ever a couple weeks ago (simple, but just never did it).

Also tried barrel-aged gin for the first time: http://www.bluecoatgin.com/barrelfinished.html

very interesting, closer to a whiskey or scotch.  very cool and complex cocktails there also.

So strange to see this bumped as I'm in London at the moment.  What I've learned the past few days is the Gin is great but tonic water is just as important.

Slightly later that the next day, but Ironface was not great.  It wasn't terrible, just mediocre and forgettable.

In the last year I've tried two exceptional gins.  Dry Town (distillery started up by the guy that owns Otterbox) is probably my goto gin now when I can find it.  I also just returned from a trip to Hawaii where I had Botonist.  I have yet to look for it here in Colorado but it was very good if you want a more junipery gin.
