Give Me a Movie/TV Show/Song/Band and I Will Review (1 Viewer)

Glengarry Glen Ross
Oh snap.

Mamet is hit/miss with me. I really, really wanted to love GGR. somehow the film, aside from some awesome scenes, didn't amaze me. Don't get me wrong...almost every acting performance was stellar. But all in all it clunked for me.

Some Mamet's other films were great though.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Ouch, tough one.

Movie?: Not a fan.

Book?: I always felt like I should like it more but I just can't. I totally dug a lot of HST's work. "Hell's Angels" is amazing. But anything "drug fueled" by him is tough for me to swallow.

I do have to say that I appreciate his influence on writing and journalism.

Manhunter was freaking sweet. Peterson and Cox were great. Even the goob that played Dollarhyde was good. Very creepy for sure.

Red Dragon: Should have be much, much better. Great cast, big budget etc. Somehow they screwed the pooch. Everything seemed a few ticks off target. Oh, and Fiennes was a very poor choice for sure. I like the guy as an actor but very miscast in Red Dragon.

Willy Wonka 1 vs Willy Wonka 2
Yeesh....

I'm sure it is nostalgia talking but the Depp version was creepy as hell...and keep in mind the Wilder version was pretty damn creepy.
I need more.creepy is a good thing?
Again, nostalgia plays a big part...

But I always saw wilder as harmless for the most part. Like he was playing a huge joke. Depp? I kept waiting for him to rape somebody.

Grave of the Fireflies

Can you give an example of a musical that was adapted well to film?

#####in' Kitchen

Band: TV on the Radio

Movie: Napoleon Dynamite

TV Show: Best Season of The Wire
I got into TVOTR late but I really like "Could You" and "Happy Idiot" off of their latest.

Napoleon Dynamite is outstanding. I know some people can't stand it but I think it a great piece of comedy.

Tough call on "The Wire". Love the show. It's hard to pin down the best season. I will say that the last season was a disappointment for sure.

Corrosion of Conformity

Napalm Death
No clue

Hot but terrible song(s). I still play "Cars That Go Boom" for my students at least once to share the horror.

Movie: Being There
Great movie.

The films of Patrick Swayze, specifically Red Dawn and Roadhouse.
Red Dawn could have been much better. I'll still watch parts of it if I stumble across it. But all-in-all pretty campy and goofy.

Roadhouse sucks. And for whatever reason I can't even enjoy it in the "so bad that it's good" kind of way. Although my close and personal friend, John Doe, is in it.

Sons of Anarchy

The Walking Dead
SOA started out somewhat decent. Maybe the appeal was that it gave us some sort of insight into biker gangs. Then it got bad...then really bad...then it turned into a cartoon. As GPJ said "it's pretty much just performance art by now".

TWD could be so much better. I've posted a lot about this in the official thread. Not going to rehash it. I stared watching because one of my kids had read the comics and he wanted to watch the show. I figured it was one of the few shows we could still "bond" over. The funny thing is that he gave up on the show about a year and a half ago and I'm still watching it.
