GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (7 Viewers)

I have a friend who must own 10 of those.
One in every color of the pastel rainbow? Does he actually own a boat? :)

My wife's older cousin actually has a captain's/pilot's/whateveryoucallit license for one of the intercoastal systems down here off the Gulf (basically means he can gig a bunch of rich snowbirds who don't know the channels and #### to get their boat to/from the marina in their town out in to the Gulf every season.  Really cool dude.  Inventor, entrepreneur, etc.  He's a trip).  He, of course, has en entire wardrobe of these things....but he IS a boat captain, after all, so I don't give him a ton of #### for it.   According to him, almost every one of the dudes who own the boats he drives sport them too, on the water and off.  Some of the locals in his little 'burg wear them all the time too, because they're hanging around with/providing services for the "boat folk."  Aren't even boat owners.  Another group he claims exists around their town are the "guys who used to own boats, but don't anymore" and they also are big fans of the Columbia section at Bass Pro Shop.  Like, it's how they cling to the boat they no longer own.

tl;dr: A lot of boat people are weird and wear silly looking shirts.

Nm....boy, that's great.  2% liquid is impossible to find.

Invest your cash, though.  If you hate equities, buy real estate.  Make that money sweat if you have it.  Never ever ever park it in a bank at 0%.

I've been awake since 3 a.m., hiked about 23 miles and over 5200 feet of elevation gain (and equal amount of elevation loss), 2/3 of it as a solo hike, at temps up to 90+, in Yosemite today.  I might die, but I'll die pretty happy.  It was incredible.  Facebook friends should expect a ridiculous number of photos tomorrow if I survive.
 wish I was FB friends. Yes I am stalking you :) j/k GB. That sounds both incredible and daunting.

recommendations for colorful, non-fruiting trees that will be sub-20 feet tall but grow quickly?
Crape myrtles fit the bill for what you're describing, I believe, but I have no idea if they'd actually survive in the arctic tundra you call home.

(I guess I should have read before posting.  Never mind)

My personal IRA is 90% cash, GM is gonna kill me.  :oldunsure:

Even worse, the other 10 % is in Kinder Morgan.  :X
Why?  Single guy, no kids....why not allocate that to a few stocks that trade in a tight range and throw off 5-6%?  Why cash that pays 0???  Why would you ever just let a nest egg rust?  Make it sweat!!!!

You can also throw it into a permanent life insurance policy with a good company and get 3-ish% tax free if you set it up right.

Doesn't Kev clip coupons to go to Vegas?

Again, I'm poor so no judgement here. But that seems relevant.

Pay it off and put that monthly payment into savings.  Pretty easy answer.
You're suggestion is good but you are suggesting parking money in cash, which pays you nothing.  Need to make that money sweat, brah.
My impression was that he was concerned about reducing his savings.  Yes investing would be better, but receiving 0.025% >>> paying 6%.

Are you on FB?  If so, then why aren't we friends?  I welcome all* GMTANers to my FB page.

Also, I am in for shots but have only wine.  Does a glass of wine constitute a shot?

*Most.

Have you posted in this thread before?  I enjoy your posts elsewhere.  I don't understand them at least half the time, but still enjoy them. :welcome:
Thanks Krista, :)

I think I posted a few months ago...here...

...but, I have not in a good while. Nothing personal to this thread, but, as a newer active poster, I do not always get some of the history.

In regards to my posts elsewhere, I understand little of them myself.

So....

...how did the wine go down? :toast:

Smoothly.  Think I'll pour another.  Was out all day and have a lot of catching up to do.

Hope you'll stick around this thread more often.  It's nice to see some new folks like you and RC94, plus reappearance of people like stryker.  Need more @Frostillicus, though.
