In regards to the talk of parents today, I really wish all of yours the best. Sincerely.
But, someone mentioned trying to focus on the good memories, and that inspired my to pass on some of the greatest wisdom my father has ever given me. You may even want to take notes; its that good.
Earlier today, I took some time off from work to treat my parent to a late dinner (@3:30 pm...late for them that is). I was in my work truck, so I used their vehicle to drive them to the restaurant. Pop is 83 and can barely walk now (really bad knees); Mom is 80 and is in awesome shape. Both of their minds are still strong, but Pop has a way of being verbose.
Anyways, it has been very hot and muggy in Louisville all week (mid 90's), and air conditioning, thus, became the topic of focus during our ride. This is when Pops dropped the wisdom bomb.
"Son...ya know...car like these...ours that is...that your driving now....well, they have windows. And when I was young, my car had windows like this too. And...when I was still low on the totem pole at work...well...I had to park in the sun. When that happens, these windows make the car hot. And when that happens, the AC just won't cool it right on start up. The secret ya, is to
open the windows...let your ac run for a while, and then, ya can
close the windows again. Oh, also, if your driving down the road...anytime time really...and it gets too hot...ya think maybe the ac isn't work'in well...well then...just open the windows. It can help."
In years past (I'm 49 now), this would of steamed me....enough to open a window.
But these days, I just smile and say, "Thanks Pop...that'll come in handy!"
