Oh yeah, so apparently we won't know definitive results for a few more days, but they told us that my wife's lump they removed wasn't anything to be concerned about. It was either a non-cancerous tumor, or something low grade and locally destructive with no ability to spread. So now that it's removed, it's no longer a threat even if it was cancer.

Weird.

One of my students is wearing a Sub Pop t-shirt.  I asked him if he knew what Sub Pop was.   He said "It's a record company.   That's where Nirvana started."

Then I asked him what his favorite track was on Tad's "8-Way Santa".  He had no idea what I was talking about.  ####ing moron.

True story about Tad. My sister dated him several years, he wanted to get married but she got cold feet. I consider him a friend. He's a very cool guy. Around this time (mid 90's) he was pushing 400lbs. He's since lost a lot of weight.

So he's doing a tour opening for Soundgarden one summer and I said me and my boys would go down to the Salem armory to see him. He says I'll get you a backstage pass, I'll leave it in will call. Cool.

Day of show I go to will call, no pass. We go in and watch all of Tad's set, it's really crunchy metal, it's good if you like that brand. So he finished the set and walks up to the mic and goes " Matt, meet me at the side of the stage". I'm like, see you dudes later.

I get down there and there's 8-9 other dudes apparently named Matt. Tad sees me and points and the security dude pulls me through the ropes. I'm now going backstage with tad to hang.

We get back there and there's this huge spread if food and booze on a couple tables. His band is there and there's another 10 or so people hanging, but the Soundgarden guys aren't. We chat a bit and then this Mexican dude with glorious hair pulls out a water pipe, like a custom made job I've never seen anything like it. He lights up and starts passing it around. The room is now full of smoke, and in a few minutes I'm high as ####. Back then I smoked all the time, but this stuff was way stronger than what I was used to.

Tad goes, hey Matt, come here. I follow. Soundgarden had just started their set. He takes me on the stage, just behind the side curtain near the amps. I'm 6 feet from Kim Thayil. He looks over, sees Tad and gives a smile and nod. I sat there for 30-40 mins with Tad watching these guys in their prime.  That was a great day.

Nice run yesterday, kids.  Good work.

A guy in my homebrew club last night passed around a beer he brewed to taste like Gardetto's snack mix. :oldunsure:  To his credit(?) he had it spot-on. I told him it was great execution of a very questionable idea.  OTOH, he said he made it as a marinade rather than a beverage, and gave me a bottle to take home and try on some chicken, where I think it will do nicely.

He also brewed a "Pennsylvania Swankey" which is flavored with star anise, and which I thought would make a good marinade for pork.

It appears we are down another cat.  :(

Lucious, a sweet black cat with a face like an owl and a congenital fear of...well, basically everything, has been missing for 8 days. He has had a habit of going on walkabout and we have suspicions that he has another family somewhere nearby, but he has never been gone this long.We fear that he has become a victim of predation. Being a mostly outdoor cat in an area populated by coyotes, bobcats and bears is perilous, I guess.

I am horribly allergic to cats and am more of a dog person naturally, but Lucious is (was?) my homey.

TRe, Frosty, etc. I will be in MINNEAPOLIS later this month.  Tuesday and Wednesday, 5/24 and 25 I think.  Would love to see your fat women and cheese selection.

Go easy, Lucious.

I was in Wisconsin last week and my German colleague made the comment during dinner "there sure are a lot of huge women here"

I said "welcome to Wisconsin buddy"

Bummer, man.  Sorry to hear.

On a sort of related topic, our HOA is again asking residents to give feedback on allowing chickens.  Currently, our HOA has a strict policy against chickens, goats or any other animal that has become trendy and hip in East Portland, where the dirty hippies and Tommyboy live.  I'm vehemently opposed to allowing chickens because #### you go buy eggs at a store.  This is not a farm.  It's a neighborhood and I will burn #### to the ground if I start hearing cockadooodledooing in my quiet, peaceful neighborhood.

Also, my theory on adding chickens to the neighborhood would make the coyote problem worse, no?  Right now (and like you, Foghorn) we have Missing Cat posters going up all the time.  No, they aren't missing; they were dinner.  Or breakfast.  Wouldn't adding chickens increase this problem?

Horrible idea all the way around.  And it would be easy to assume that having chickens would draw in more predators.
