In for $25. Don't hate me Frost.Jimtan friends,
I'm not an adorable kid raising money for a good cause, but I am hitting you up for money. Despite not actually owning a bike and not having ridden more than 15 miles at a time in more than a decade, I'm riding in the MS 150 bike ride from Houston to Austin in three weeks. My fundraising page is here.

For $100 in GMTAN donations, I'll shotgun a beer and video it as soon as I get to La Grange, which is the stopping point for the first day. I'll be exhausted and in a taint crushing amount of pain, so it should be good. I'm also willing to take script suggestions.
Thank you for your support. YIC.

Probably? How fun roasting marshmallows and singing Kumbaya! So tomorrow night I get the pleasure of going to Boy Scouts of America Outdoor Leadership Training. This will entail me spending roughly 24 hours camping with a bunch ofgrown menprobable weirdos and receiving instruction on doing Boy Scout things, so that we may give instruction on same to the kids in our troop.
I am a reluctant participant in all this. While I think a lot of what the BSA emphasizes is great stuff, there is also a lot of it that I am not cool with (e.g. the religious underpinnings, anti-gay stance, etc.). But both of my step-sons are involved in the troop and there aren't enough parent volunteers. About half of the troop is made up of Chinese or Chinese-American scouts and their parents seem neither very outdoorsy nor very confident with the English language. The former Scout-master had to resign because of allegations of child molestation not related to the Boy Scouts. I actually suspect he is innocent, based on some oddities about the accusations, but clearly he can't be involved with the troop any more. So they need help and I volunteered.
Now I kind of wish I hadn't. I don't know much about camping, so I might actually learn something on this trip, but it is March in Washington and it is probably going to be rainy and wet out in the woods. And one of the other two guys from our troop that is going on this training (he is actually the new Scoutmaster) is the weirdest, Aspbergers-y MFer I have ever met. If it turns out down the line that he is a serial killer, I won't be the least bit surprised.
So this is going to be interesting. And probably tedious too.
