GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (4 Viewers)

I did this morning press conference with the mayor today and sat next to the mayor at lunch today and have another press conference with the mayor in the morning. This town's standards for leadership are pretty low.

PR chick is at all of these, so my pants have been pretty happy.

So A Million Ways to Die in the West >>> Guardians. Got it. This seems almost unbelievable.
 Never said that at all.

A Million Ways to Die is pretty damn stupid but there were a few good laughs.

I didn't find one thing funny or amusing about Guardians. Pretty sure I wouldn't watch either one again.

Also, totally jealous of you and GM coaching your kids. My oldest plays tennis & soccer, youngest is going into pre-professional ballet this fall.

:kicksrock:
Coach soccer then. I'm coaching my daughter's team. Do I look like I play or know the first thing about soccer?

one of the kids is intellectually disabled and has never played any organized sports before. He shot a ball into the water fountain tonight.

I coached my son's 4-5 year old soccer last year. It was horrible.

Tell him I have a bone to pick with the Planning and Development Dept.

So does everyone else. That was most of his platform and 1/3 of his speech at lunch today. My friend at Google says they have so much P&D work related to putting in Fiber that they paid for an extra city staffer just to review their stuff.

I specifically targeted a piece of land just south of austin with a good well to start up my operation. Out of city limits, but still in their ETJ (Extraterritorial Jurisdiction). I went in to confirm I could get a Site Development Plan Waiver, since its an agricultural thing and by city code expempt for site development plans. THey guy I talked to said yes, that's correct and even talked to his supervisors to confirm. I go home and get a call asking me tot come back and there's six of those ####ers lined up on the other side of the table challenging me. Just because mushrooms need to be indoors to be a feasinble ag project, they were giving me all kinds of bs about how it wasn't traditional. City and federal law have both established mushrooms as an agricultural commodity and there are no code or other stipulations restricting how ag product must be produced. I kind of threw a hissyn fit because I know I'm right and they do too, they are just over-reaching and violating my rights as a property owner to unilaterally restrict my methods of production and impose undue hindrances in my pursuit. i twisted off pretty hard on them I know I can fight and win and I love fighting #### like this, but I really have better uses of my time. What growing booming city like Austin sends six staffers to quash a mom and pop operation's plan to grow organic mushrooms outside city limits. Ludicrous

I am happy to report the $20 trick still works. Had to throw in some sweet talk, but I got a Jacuzzi Suite for about $35 a night. Time to get out there and gamble!

Fuuuuuuuuuck coaching my kids in any sports. It took one soccer season to figure that one out.

Also, finally watching Guardians of the Galaxy. Pretty entertaining.
It's a Marvel movie and therefore it is terrible, you half-wit. /tanner

Coaching is fun. Coaching your own kid isn't.
I enjoy it. I do NOT enjoy Spring Soccer weather in Portland, though. Freaking cold and wet right now. First practice tomorrow with 18 10-12 year old boys. 18....and I'm the only coach tomorrow. Neat.

What's the $20 trick?
8-10 years ago I advised sliding a 20 to the clerk and asking if there might be a better room available. I now use a 50. 90% of the time I get a nice upgrade.

What happens the other 10% of the time?

cos - You really ought to talk to a local P&D expert before trying this stuff. Would save you so much trouble and money in the long run. If you can catch me in a sober moment, I can recommend some people.

The clerk folds your 20 into a paper football and flicks it at your face.

I pull the 50 back.

I learned this from the father of a Jewess I was dating in New York City circa 1979. His daughter was a gymnast and I was taking ehr to see Kiurt Tomas(?) at some competition and he said, slide the teller a 20 and tell him you want good seats. We got front row. I asked him- what if they don't have them. He said theyd'd slide the bribe back. Texas kid learned a valuable lesson in the big city that day. Been using it ever since.

I have hired such before, but I can read the city code and understand it as well as most of them. Code not only restricts but empowers and gives you rights and I have used that knowledge and those rights repeatedly to create advantages. The problem was not me and understanding the code, the problem was the city staffers over-reaching and denying me entitlements through the code that the city wrote.

The first time my wife and I went to Vegas was a million years ago for her 25th birthday. I did the $20 trick and mentioned it was our first time in Vegas and it was my wife's birthday (this was at the now defunct Aladdin). We got a kick-### suite overlooking the Bellagio fountains. It didn't have a bowlling alley or anything, but it had a jacuzzi and porn on the tv.
