GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (10 Viewers)

for anyone with direct tv. this is a must. it was impossibly easy. total time on the phone, less than 30 minutes. they called me back in less than 24 hours. the standard monthly discount is $43

Read the script below.

Call 1-800-531-5000

Get to retentions department

Confirm you are in retentions department

Don't bother with their offers and simply request a cancellation 2 weeks out

Confirm cancellation date

Wait to receive "We want you back", "Let us make it right", "blah blah" call or email with special 877-250-4624 number and NEWDEAL1 or NEWDEAL2 code

If you receive that email, great. Go ahead and call in as soon as you receive it.

If you DO NOT receive the email in a few days, call the 877-250-4624 number anyway and tell them you received the email

You may get turned down for "not being in their system" yet

If that is the case, ask if they can get you added to the system

No matter what they say, call back in 48 hours or so and try again

You may still have to haggle with them a bit to get everything listed in this thread ($200 GC, 12 month discounts on package, free 2015 Sunday Ticket Max, 3 months of premium movie channels, all requiring a 12 month commitment (24 months if you elect to receive new equipment)), but they also may just lay it all out there for you from the start

If all else fails, you can always call the 1-800-531-5000 number back before the date you set and have the cancellation removed and try the whole process again later
My contract is up in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to make this call.
Word in that thread is that the offers they are making ends today.

I canceled 2 hours ago, scheduled to have it shut off 6/10. Am on the phone with them right now and just waiting for a manager to OK what is effectively everything laid out above. Been on the phone 21.5 minutes.

I've lamented it plenty but the fact that I'm a ####ing Classics major and I have lost the last ~187 of 200 to the worst speller on the Internet has me feeling at my not-best.

You should have some wine to help you through these dark times

Also, it's been like 6 months since I've gotten drunk and purchased a Bo Jackson rookie card. GF is going out of town for like 10-11 days in June, so that streak might be broken.
Pretty sure we have a few Bo Jackson rookie cards. I'm dying to get rid of his baseball and football cards, but if that one is the real deal, I dunno.
They aren't really worth all that much. I just really like Bo Jackson

yes i was 30-35/mo

Did you schedule the cancellation and then call right back? Or just threatened to cancel and they started dealing?
for the past week or two in here, everybody has been following the new script. you schedule a cancellation for sometime in the future, and then that opens up new deals for them to offer you.

if you just threaten to cancel, they aren't offering anywhere near as great of a deal as they used to. seems like you have to make multiple calls now and stretch it out a little but it works very well.

Hey dingleberry, Scrabble won't LET me mispell words. Believe me, I try...

You're killing me now and overall, probably dominate the series.

If the one thing missing from your life is spending 30 minutes helping a six year old go poop at 7 am before school then I advise you to have children.

This is why I hate scrabble on the smartphone. It's not scrabble if you can't play a phony.

Had my 7yo wake me up in the middle of the night last week to tell me he had to go.

I grew up playing with my parents. They are old school. Dictionary sits at the table unopened unless there is a challenge. No asking how to spell words, no looking things up, no help of any kind. You spell wrong or play something that doesn't exist (my mom is the queen of this), somebody (usually my dad) will challenge. Successful challenge, turn is lost. Unsuccessful challenge and the challenger loses his/her next turn.

Digital game is fun, but way too easy. I'm sure YRS would destroy me in person.

I'm talking about Scrabble here. :oldunsure:

That's how it is supposed to be played. Any other way doesn't count.
