GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (3 Viewers)

Although I did get some take-out from Por Que No? when we were at Randall Children's a few weeks back. Great atmosphere and good enough food. Have you been there?

Portland is a great town for Thai food, Sushi, Korean, Vietnamese...but I've been here 20 years and have yet to find a decent Chinese place. Damndest thing. I've given up. Used to love me a good Chinese buffet but not here. Everything is putrid.
my problem is i cant find a good mexican place. They all suck compared to what i can make at home.
I agree completely. Mexican restaurants here are dreadful. And their names are so stupid - "Si Senor!" and "Muchos Gracias!" If I went to Mexico, I assure you I wouldn't want to eat an American place called "THANK YOU VERY MUCH".

There's a decent food truck in Beaverton that I've been to once with my man Sosa...he did all the ordering in Spanish and their sauces were top notch. They aren't always open and I was the only gringo in line, but the burrito I had was better than anything I've had at Chipotle or Que Doba.
tanks, going there Friday hope they aren't in jail that day

Well, if you need a place to eat your giant Cemitas, my casa is your casa....although my casa is still heavily under construction.

And I can find a pretty decent to great Torta at Sanchez Taqueria. Of course, Tigard and Beaverton to you are like 82nd to me.
i work right by St Vincents so i can check these places out at lunch, thx.

i used to live on Bull Mtn, how the #### can you deal with the traffic over here? I actually moved just because of the traffic on 99W. and don't get me started on 217

Our nanny was off of Bull Mountain Road, so I know the area well, but agree with you. 99 is a clusterfork. Hate it. I work in Tualatin, so I can take the back roads to Sanchez Taqueria, but we haven't gone there in over a year, maybe two. Used to be a company favorite on Fridays when we brought in lunch, but we quit doing that too. Makes me sad banana.

I live right off 217 and Walker. I hate 217 with the passion of a million nazis. Doesn't matter what time of day, northbound 217 is a giant mess.

Order take-out from Da Kuh Bee. Their hand spun noodles are incredible. But dining in sucks, so order it to go. A bit of a hike from where you are, but we've found the best thai food around in Red Curry off of Scholls Ferry. Just outstanding flavor.

And I know you're not a beer drinker, but check out Fireside Grill sometime. Great burgers. The gals that work there lie and call me 'gorgeous' when they ask what I want. I allow it. They also make a damn good cuban and reuben.

Come on, brah....I LOVE that place. The one in Tualatin sucks in comparison. Surprised I haven't run into you there.

K4, where are you guys staying in November? When does the train depart back to Seattle? Hopefully afternoon so we can watch some morning football.
One of the Kimpton hotels in Portland. Looking up which one (there were at least three--how very Portland) would necessitate a couple of clicks right now, and who has time for that. I also don't remember the train times, but I was looking at one that would definitely give us football time on Sunday.

ok, enough food/oregon talk

i'm going to Detroit early Sep, staying at Greektown Casino. gonna play golf at Oakland Hills on Thursday and Travis Pt on Friday, anyone been? Also, what's a fun thing to do on Friday night? places to go or eat. any help would be appreciated.

Though I've been to Detroit many times now and though everybody tells me to try Slows BBQ, I've never been. Go for me. Please.

I went to a Tigers game once and had a great time. Beautiful park. A bit sketchy walking around downtown, but you'll be fine. I like the surrounding areas quite a bit.

Can't help with the golf but the rest I can help with

What are you looking for in particular as far as food or bar atmosphere?

something rowdy & fun with good food and drinks.

i'm going to see Oregon State vs Michigan St. I have an invite to go see the Ducks play vs Michigan the same day, but i think i'll be too f'n tired.

GM what are your favorite dining spots in Michigan?
Unfortunately, I don't have too much to offer here as I'm always at the whim of others on where we go to eat and most of the places I've been are in the Lake Orion area. I've been to Sagebrush a dozen times and it's good enough, but nothing spectacular.

Blackfinn in Royal Oak was really good.

Union Woodshop in Clarkston was memorable. Would like to go back one day.

Redsmoke BBQ downtown before a Tigers game was tasty. Wish we would have gone to Slows, though.

Went to Cheli's Chili Bar after going to the Henry Ford Museum. It was rather 'meh' but not awful.

Kruse and Muer good but not worth the pricetag, IMO.

51 North Brewing Company has some good beers, but haven't tried anything other than jalapeno poppers, which were solid.

Rochester Brew Company is nice. I like that town. We went to some nice place there over Xmas that was good, but their beer list was strange. Too many winter beers for my liking, but duh, it was winter! Really a pretty town with all the lights up.

Granite City Brewery was okay, but not great.

Slows is excellent but is in Corktown, not Greektown. I would not recommend walking between the two areas. cabs are not super plentiful but you could call one or try Uber

also be prepared for 1-2 hour or more wait at Slows, especially on a weekend

next door is the Sugar House which is an excellent craft cocktail bar...fairly steep prices though and full of hipsters

Mercuary Bar across the street is pretty good for burgers and bar food...a tad hipstery though

there is Red Smoke BBQ in Greektown which I have heard is good but never been

other than that it's mostly a bunch of Greek restraunts, not really the best area for downtown dining

Opus One is the high end steak house in the area...never been though

Fishbones is a Cajun type place...kinda meh and overpriced

Old Shillelagh is a popular Irish bar in Greektown, live bands singing Irish folk songs but can be fun usually a lively environment

Bouzouki Club is the titty bar in the area

Punchbowl Social is within walking distance too (OK food but they have bowling, shuffleboard, darts, etc)

other places I like are Green Dot Stables but it is in the middle of nowhere Detroit. they have about 20 different types of sliders and reasonable drink prices

Roast is also excellent restaurant but not really conveniently located to anything else

the Midtown area is really picking up too

Hopcat is a great bar (over 100 craft beers on tap)...good food

Bronx Bar and Old Miami are both good bars but not really known for food

Motor City Brewing is around here too

Comerica Park/Ford Field area has a lot of good spots as well and you can walk there from Greektown

love Park Bar...great schwarma's and good beer choices

Bookies and Chelis are popular game day bars but not my favorite

Town Pump is OK

have heard great things about Wright and Co but have not been, more of an upscale bistro type place though

feel free to shoot me a PM if you want more specific details

You got your schools mixed up....OSU plays Michigan at the Big House. Ducks play Sparty.

And I'm very jealous. I wanted to do this too, but just no way now.

What state is the nation's leading egg producer?

Cal had orientation at school today. It was from 8-12 meaning I had to wake him up and break the news to him because I figured this out about 10pm last night. Oh that went over well.

Dyl and myself pick him up promptly at 12 and it was a freaking nightmare in the parking lot. Anyhow...

Me: So, how did it go?

Cal: Great! I mean, okay I guess. Kind of terrible really.

Me:  So.....what happened?

Cal: There's this girl. She doesn't like me. She kept trying to trip me and push me and stuff!

Me:  She probably just likes you. Do you think she's cute?

Cal: She said her favorite animal would be a combination tarantula & scorpion. SHE'S CRAZY!!!
