$2k more in earnest money buys me another 30 days to get the house closed.
refundable? your escrow officer and loan officer seem ######ed. had you locked in your previous rate? and if you're borderline a/b paper you may just encounter this again. it sounds like your LO tried to sell you/push through a loan that you didn't quite qualify for and it got rejected. that blows and is ####ty of them

Holy crap. We had two huge rainstorms over the last 2 days. Mudslides have closed both I-5 (connects to the LA area) and 58 (connects eventually to Vegas with a whole lot of BFE in between).

58 from the air

Story

My nephew is going back to Kansas where he went to college. He's flying out of LAX because our airport is a joke (actual photo).

What would normally be a 2 hour drive down to L.A. is going to take about 6 hours with a gigantic detour.

I got put on some email list from my first office, and get the occasional update about this or that. I noticed today on the list one of my former co-workers, who was also a college classmate and Grad school-mate.

Nice, cute girl who helped me get that first job... hadn't thought about her since then, so googled her. Pages of links to the same event: her being arrested for attempted murder of a cop with an 18" bayonet, after jumping out at him from under some blankets in her house.. along with a truly sad looking mug-shot. At some point after I last saw her, she clearly went insane. Said she let herself out of an institution immediately prior to the attack... went home and attacked her mom, who she thought was an "impostor". sounds like the police found her 80something mom walking, dazed on the street in her bathrobe, and went to check on the house/apartment.

posty etc. not sure why I feel the need to relay this news... just made me sad. And given some of the other threads, a bit close to home.

I so want to make a Rover joke here, but I won't. Sorry, man. Mental illness is awful.

Just heard that the California teachers union is putting up a big stink about MacTeacher night.

Why do California teachers think its a bad idea to work at McD's for the evening serving unhealthy food when they rake in almost a dollar per student?

Slipped and fell out of my hotel shower this morning

My foot kicked up and hit the bath spigot then I pulled the shower curtain down and crashed into the toilet and knocked it lose...it was about 30 degrees off center

They did supply a bath mat but I declined it initially

Was telling some colleagues and I guess a guys cousin died like that

Is McDonalds the worst job you've ever had? Mine was The Gap, chasing after a girl I liked. I lasted about a month and was horrible at it. Hated it. Took a smoke break and never went back.

When I was 15 I took a summer job at Zesto, which I thought was just a local ice cream joint but I guess was a chain. I made $2/hour. They made you wear a kerchief/bandanna thingie that was a different color based on your seniority. I had to wear a green one as a newbie. Those yellow-kerchiefed women really lorded it over the rest of us. I worked there seven hours before quitting.

Fast food Chinese for me in Brookfield, WI (Wong's Wok). I had these black work pants that seemed to be perma-greasy no matter how many times I washed them.

i got fired from McDonalds when I was 17. I was pitching in summer league baseball and failed to mention my schedule to the mgr at McD's so they'd schedule me and I just didn't show up. They fired me after about a month.

My ex-girlfriend's brother was ~18 the last time I saw him, really good, smart kid. Looked her up last week and found he recently died at 33. Was in law school after getting his MBA. Still can't wrap my head around it.

I had a lot of crappy summer and part time jobs as a teen and through college, but laying cable was the worst. And no, that isn't a euphemism. In this case, it meant digging ditches, putting in PVC piping and pulling cable through the pipe. It was the worst job ever. Shocking, I know.

Running wire for fire alarms and internet through attic spaces on the summer in San Diego. 120 degrees on those attics. Nobody really in charge. If a bunch of kids die in a fire in a school in Rancho Santa Fe, it's probably my fault.

I had that job a few months one summer. Really sucked. Not as bad as shipfitter's helper, but close

When I was working as a shipfitter's helper I noticed the electricians had it the easiest. So I bought a 90 page book on how to be an electrician, kind of memorized some of it and went to another shipyard and lied my ### off and got a job as an electrician. We were building the Staten Island ferries in Houston, then they'd drive them up the coast to Staten Island. First two weeks there I had wired the entire right side of the second level of a Staten Island ferry.... backwards. Did any of those ever sink due to electrical malfunction?

Tended bar at an Applebee's for two days. They tried to make me wear a chain mail glove to cut lemons. Corporate bartending...not exactly my thing.

If they made me wear one of those as an electrician, I'd of never sliced open my finger, got worker's comp and went to college.

Don't care. Not that I'm Rich, but $2k to buy thirty days isn't that big of a deal. It's in escrow. The loan passed all the metrics and was approved. Then we repulled my Credit and something went wrong. It will be fine. Or it won't. Kind of too tired to care at this point.

McD's. Was pretty bad but it didn't help that I was lazy as hell. Never wanted to work and did the bare minimum. I think I worked there for about 5 months and then left to deliver pizzas.

My worst was probably Kmart in high school

They'd always screw up schedule to where I'd supposed to get off at 8 and then be like OH WE DIDNT SCHEDULE ANYONE TO CLOSE...CAN YOU STAY?

I just got sick of it but didn't want to leave on bad terms so I told them I was having issues with my mom at home and had to go live with my dad in another town and therefore couldn't give 2 weeks

HR felt so bad for me and told me once I hit settled to let her know and she'd help place me at a Kmart out there

Worst job - Friendly's Ice Cream/Restaurant - Southwyck Mall, Toledo, OH. First job and 16 yrs old.

1) Humiliating costume - had to wear their stupid white cotton canvas pants and cotton canvas short sleeve shirt, along with one of those soda jerk hats. The overall look - think 50's gas station attendant. If that wasn't bad enough I weighed about a buck ten and wore size 26 waist pants - their lowest pant waist size was 32. Shirt was equally as large on me. This was the mall, the place where you made/broke a reputation with the wimmens. I was new to the neighborhood and this did not bode well for me though the hair was still kickin.

2) Got Hosed on Breaks & Closing - Was always scheduled from 6pm to close - 4 hours (restaurant closed at 9pm) with an hour for close. IT NEVER ONLY TOOK 1 HOUR TO CLOSE. Paid breaks were mandatory after four hours work. I never got a break cause we were closing and the manager wanted to get out of there. We rarely got out of there before 11:30 since so much had to be done. So ended up working 5.5+ slammed hours and no break most nights.

3) Got Hosed on Work - They didn't have anyone doing dishes, busing or much clean-up all day until the 6 to close gimp showed up. The kitchen/grill is out out in front of the customers and all of the dirty dishes, glasses, utensils, cookware ...from the entire day were there just as the dinner crowd was heating up. No one would touch a dish. Manager, waitresses are on top of you immediately demanding they need more table settings. Then if more than a couple people lined up in front at the ice cream service counter then you had to go up and do that until there wasn't anyone there ...while the dishes piled up. In the meantime still having to bus tables, the waitresses would only clear tables if they had to and certainly wouldn't take the tubs back.

4) Got hosed on tips - Tips were to be shared with the kitchen. Don't ever remember getting more than a dollar or so in change, no folding money ...not once.

5) Manager was your typical mid-to-late 20s chubby loser guy who was a ####. I really hated that guy.

Largest point of satisfaction in my life to that time: Restaurant is getting slammed on an early Saturday night. Manager yelled at me in front of customers at the front counter about how I had inappropriately applied the chocolate "jimmies" to the butter pecan double dip cone. I slowly unpinned my name tag and handed it to him and said "I quit" and walked back to the kitchen to change out of my baggy ice cream guy outfit into my respectably awesome skin tight elephant bells and chess king rock shirt.
