GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (5 Viewers)

Just signed my son (5) and daughter (7) up for basketball. This time I learned my lesson, and checked the box marked YES to "volunteer to coach."

Wait...
ZONE or gtfo
full game full court press like that nerd guy in Palo Alto who's group of crappy nerd girls beat all the better teams/players by running them into the ground. it was in the ny times or nyorker or something ny a few years ago. other coaches were incensed.

An 80 year old man is sitting in the food court in the mall and can't stop looking at a young women with spiked hair, dyed blue, green, red, yellow and orange.

The young women eventually notices the attention of the old man and says "Old man, ever do anything really wild?"

The old man responds "Got really drunk once. ####ed a Parrot. Thought you might be my daughter."
Horrendous.

Bought half a hog yesterday. $3.69 lb for about 90lbs of pork. Guy said I'll get 15lb ham, 10lb bacon, 6lb Italian sausage, some ribs, a bunch of pork chops and lots of pork shoulder. Anyone ever done this? I'm hoping the quality is similar to how I buy beef. I get 1/4 of a steer every year and it's better than what you can buy at the store and cheaper.

I've thought about it, but never done it. Don't have enough freezer space.

Wife and I did a 1/2 last year, did a whole hog about a month ago. The quality is SO much better than at the grocery store. One thing I'd say is be picky about your butcher. I'd ask around (or research on the net) regarding flavor/quality of the bacon and sausage at different places in your area. We get a lot more sausage than you are getting, and the place we get it from flavors it fantastically. However, the bacon leaves a LOT to be desired, and so we will probably look elsewhere next time. The bacon is kinda gamey, not well cured, and not salty enough. We basically use it to chop up and flavor dishes, rather than just eating it. Fletcher's from Costco tastes much better.

But I think you'll find the sausage is far less greasy than typical, and the ribs, chops, roasts, and ham are also much better than grocery store. Bone Appetite.

I just bought one of those half chest freezers years ago when we started buying beef this way. It sits in the basement, cost me about $150 or so. Totally worth it.About the 2nd or 3rd year of buying beef, we had a flood in my basement that winter. The city sewer backed up into my house and I had ####water covering 80% of the basement. I got it all fixed, so no biggie, right?

About 2wks after I go in the utility room where the freezer is and smell death. It's puke worthy. So I open the freezer and see 150lbs of rotting room temp meat. The power strip its plugged into tripped during the flood and I never noticed. All I can say is that was the worst job I ever had

Ned Ryerson: Most home/renter's policies have some spoilage coverage that will reimburse you for losses like this. Mine is up to $500.

Seems high unless its significantly better quality than the supermarket. Plus, pork doesn't freeze nearly as well as beef, so it won;t last as long in the freezer

ex wife had her surgery yesterday. after multiple specialists scared the hell out of her--no signs of cancer. pathology will confirm on Friday.

took daughter to the hospital to visit today. after she had said over and over that she wasn't worried and didn't want to talk about it, on the way home she just kept asking, "Is mom going to be ok?" such a relief to be able to tell her yes.

Great news!

1. When I was a kid, My mom bought half a steer from one of my cousins that did 4H. Everything was great for about a month and then somehow the garage freezer lost power (I think it was a breaker or something). Nobody noticed for a couple of weeks. Maggot city. Still one of the grossest things I've ever seen.

2. I saw a thing on the Fud Network about muffalettas. Apparently the traditionalist nerds are horrified if you ask for it without the olive salad. When I saw that all I could think was "challenge accepted".

Actually a Schlotzky's is pretty much a mufellata without the olive salald.

Add some tongue and mayo and is a muffellatio.

I know we put a man on Mars and all, but did we ever figure out whether or not (and why) tapping on the top of a can will keep it from spraying all over when you open it?

And why were you refusing to take a family photo?
I told you I don't want to talk about it!

Because we do it every GD family gathering and it was at the end of a long day/week. And because I'm a cack. And because somebody in my family needs to take a stand against the BS forced sentiment that infests all of us. But I don't want to talk about it.
