SuperNintendo hooked me up with two tickets to Star Wars tonite.

Found out yesterday my wife's gall bladder has got to come out (somehow I'm sure the billing will work out so we don't hit the deductible/max out of pocket in either 2015 or 2016, but hey, free Star Wars!

This movie better not suck.

so, how many nights in each area? wine? food? arts? hit the primary stuff or some off the beaten track stuff? how are you travelling?

I always say 2 things........1) www.mytuscanbuddy.com is a great tour starter. Sergio is fantastic. 2) www.roadtoitaly.com I have used them in the past, though not since we bought. they customize, plan everything with your input, including transportation. we used Christina Lee, not sure if she is still around. but the site can give you suggestions for itinerary.

maybe also check out some of my other postings too, I covered a lot of ground that you can reference. I think I posted a lot in mad cow's Italy thread.

are you renting a car, taking the train, need transport? need hotels? I suggest doing the standards, but adding a twist of something different. i.e., the Vatican is pretty awesome, but if you put in some effort you can visit the necropolis below the Vatican by reserving in advance. does Pompeii interest you? you can make it from rome. Ostia antica is pretty cool and close to rome. do you want to hit places like siena, orvieto, montepulciano? do you want a cooking class? hit a roman spa? hit open air hot springs? maybe a 4 hour bike trip thru chianti? I didn't have a great experience here, but lots of people loved this place http://www.dariocecchini.com/dariocecchini/en/to-the-table/officina-della-bistecca/#book_officina its the quintessential bistecca alla fiorentina experience. do you want to stick to tours or explore on your own and hit small hill towns?

2 nights in Venice, 5 in Florance and 3 in Rome

The trip was a Black Friday deal on Costco. Got room upgrades, free bottles of wine and stuff. Inlcudes FC train tickets between cities. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary this summer and I told her we would go then this was sort of in my face so I pulled the trigger.

Staying at:

Westin Europa & Regina Venice, NH Collection Firenze Porta Rossa, Hotel Ariston

Probably costs the company tens of thousands of dollars to keep a couple people into January instead of letting them go in mid December, and they're getting virtually no work out of people. Doesn't make it any more fair but they're paying a decent price for basic humanity and to salvage a bit of morale. It sucks to be the guy doing it and it sucks to think about it over the holidays but given the choice you'd do it later instead of now.
