My last week and a half was more exciting, but navigating a death trap of an abandoned power plant in full hazmat gear and respirator in order to locate, identify, quantify and sample approximately 400,000 square feet of asbestos hasn't exactly been my idea of fun.

My last week and a half was more exciting, but navigating a death trap of an abandoned power plant in full hazmat gear and respirator in order to locate, identify, quantify and sample approximately 400,000 square feet of asbestos hasn't exactly been my idea of fun.

I had to source and select black granite. this involved calls to paris, tres sexy.

Also had to mediate between contractor and building rep about whether waterproofing membrane will void the warranty on the lead shower pan if it goes directly on it without mastic first. 

I also watched most of two soccer games. AND gave very good advise in here about some things, like bat catching.

Granite is a high end material and in a safe color will not go out of style.  There are and will be hipper materials but no one is going to be turned off by granite.  That said it wouldn't be my first choice right now.

That's what I used on my last kitchen remodel. No more granite in my projects

btw when they remodeled my class room they ripped out all of the 1970-1980s counters and cabinets (like this http://uglyhousephotos.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/120501a.JPG ) and put in faux granite counter tops like this http://www.nelsonpaint.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/white and gray gloss countertop.jpg

I am irrationally excited that I can have one 12'' cabinet that has a garbage can in it and I can cut a hole in my countertop that goes straight to the garbage can. Also, my whole countertop is cutting board. Got the idea from Michael Symon's cooking show. 

The ideal working kitchen has All wood or stainless steel surfaces. So even if the style fades, it's still optimal functionality, which should always have marketability.
