It's 45 miles south of Houston. Pretty sure they have airports. We can pick you up there. Best is hobby, bush is almost twice as far
airports?  i had no idea galveston was that close to houston.  i was in houston in 1990.  i vowed to never go back  total #### hole.  is galveston any better?

I'm as committed to this as I get, so put me down as a 30% chance to show up at the last minute.  If there's actual fishing 40%.  But I usually go to Mexico in February, so 20%.
You're planning on going to mexico a couple weeks after the inauguration?

####### A...was trying to explain to the 5 year old why what Trump said was so bad (somehow he got it in his head that Trump hates woman, but since he's the white male everything is AOK) and realized I was the only one in our immediate family he knows that didn't fall into one of his "groups".  We've got an immigrant mother, a Muslim immigrant nanny, a Jewish stepfather, his best friend has two daddies, and all the women.  Fun.  Thank god I had that extra cocktail and the fridge is stock.

moor integrity furley
Women and men shoud be nice to each other.

He said something about women that wasn't nice and it made people upset.

When you say something that makes people upset you should apologize.

He didn't apologize directly, but he did offer short range gynecological transport to his immediate vicinity like a small handed misogynistic tug boat.

If you don't understand a word, just ask.  A tug boat is a boat that tugs other boats if they can't steer themselves.  It's like a tow truck.

I love trucks, don't you?  Good night timmy.

So I'm kind of in a fog since 11/08. Anger, depression, lethargy, sadness, a whole gamut of emotions, mostly negative. My wife, sister and many other acquaintances are much more affected.

I figure its time to announce a coshole, to give myself and anyone else who is interested something to look forward to, something to live for.

My current Galveston tenant's lease expires Feb 1. So the first week of Feb. would be a good time for me.

House can sleep two couples, two stag. Large backyard paved areas that could hold 2-3 RVs. Cheap and nice hotels from a block away to a mile away.

I'll block out a week, Wed. (2/1) to Wed. (2/8) that should give enough flexibility many of us can make it down for at least a couple of days.

Like the original, it will be Superbowl weekend (sorry Bob).

Hey GB, I'll swing by for sure.

Anyone have a 2 year update?

Mr krista is not necessarily on the RSVP list, though OK to list him I guess.

Is there no Leonard Cohen RIP thread on this board?  I'll admit that I don't go past the first page.  Just telling how it's such a monumental event among my IRL friends but nary a whisper here.  As for me, I've been crying for 24 hours.

Here you go

Thanks, GB. :)

I don't even think I can post in there.  It's like the small DFW thread when he died.  I remember The Man being so devastated like I was, too, in that one - similarly I don't think I can properly express my feelings here.

I did love that someone said that people had better not remember him for Hallelujah.  I posted something similar on FB last night and then deleted it.  That's a great song, but if that's how you know Leonard Cohen, you've got it so wrong.

####.  I'm really struggling over the past few days.

ETA for heckmanm:  If you haven't listened to the record from a month or so ago, it's ####### insanely amazing.  My favorite is "Leaving the Table", but "Treaty" and others are ####### awesome too.

You'll notice I listed your guest as "chef." That may or may not be your spouse,

just imagining how long it would take to get out of Houston on a Vespa has me rolling
Would still have to be faster than trying to get out of it by car.  At least the Vespa would give the option of passing everyone illegally on the shoulder/median.  Or, you know, more easily driving off an overpass to find the sweet release of death.

Driving through Houston is a special ring of Hell that Dante and Virgil neglected to catalogue in "Inferno."   I'm quite certain during rush hour there that Lucifer is somewhere in the middle of it, suspended upside down in a frozen Yaris.

Off the top of my head, LA, Austin, Portland, SanFrancisco (entire bay area), Seattle, Philadelphia, NYC all have worse traffic than Houston.

cos,

where is your place?  where should i look for lodging?  i'll have to see if my wife is interested. i want to come, just have to figure out logistics. (kid)

lotta ####ign crap going on here this weekend.  my bday is tomorrow, but so is the funeral for for my SIL.  i dropped the kid and the wife off today at the MIL's and i can NOT shake the 5 minute hug with the MIL where she was just weeping into my chest the entire time.  no words, just pain.  more of that in store tomorrow.   gotta be up in 6 hours and i doubt i'll  be asleep before 2.  i'm going to book a hotel with the best pool i can find for all the nieces and nephews(10 kids under 12 years old) to come swim and have fun.

anyway, life continues and i want to go to coshole2

I have driven in 5 of those places.  You're wrong. :)

"More" doesn't always equal "worse."

I've spent several weeks to several years in all those cities. I stand by my claim.

Houston goes on forever in all directions, so there are places for the traffic to go. I've gone through Houston at least 20 times on the way to Galveston and never took more than 45 minutes.

All the other cities mentioned are bound by water with no where for traffic to go

Damn man, I'm glad you're strong.

I'm on the corner of 10th and Ave L. Get with me when you're sure you are coming and I'll help you find somewhere. There's one hotel next door, but its kind of a ####hole. I like the Tremont downtown (a mile away). Lots of people like the Galvez (half mile). It will be off-season, so no need to rush for a reservation.

FYI for anyone- SW Air flies into Houston Hobby and its 45 minutes closer to Galveston. Bush is the hub for Continental, so lots more action there.

Here's a link to my house there. It has a link to the map on the bottom

Adding to NYCs problem is they've decided to shut down 5th Ave from 53-7th when Trump is in Trump Tower now.  Just in time for when I start taking the bus there.  Fun

we have 2 pizza cutters. two.

wife refuses to use either. instead she uses a giant butcher knife. then moans & groans about how hard it is to cut straight lines in the pizza. half the time she doesn't cut all the way through the pizza. so instead of 8 roughly equal pieces that pull apart easily.... you get 11 pieces of varying width that, when you try to pull them apart, half the ingredients from one get pulled off with another.

she doesn't cut the pizza very often.. but when she does....... :hot:

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY??????????

Portland sucks for traffic but light rail, train and bike routes offer all types of solutions to sitting in soul draining traffic.

I get around LA better than San Diego. I think it has something to do with knowing one better, but LA moves a ton of traffic relatively impressively compared to SD, Vegas, and DC. Good lord DC is the worst I've experienced.

So I bid you all a doo once again. I wouldn't come back for big events like elections if this sanctuary wasn't an institution, so thanks Jim Tan. I'm having an unrecorded shot of some bizarre Peruvian grappa in appreciation.

Something else I've been contemplating. This retired single guy empty nest thing that is my future. I'm most definitely going to leave the life. First, I'm going to deliver my kid to college. Then, basically, I'm just going to walk the earth. You know, like Caine in Kung Fu. Walk from place to place. Meet people. Get in adventures. Until God puts me where he wants me to be. If it takes forever, then I'll walk forever.

sounds cool. maybe walk down to galveston for the superbowl. and don't ever be shy about walking back in here. Its not perfect, but its a decent proxy home.

D.C. and Atlanta, for their relative sizes, are soul-crushingly bad traffic. Chicago too because they didn't build enough expressways.

I STILL catch hell for missing that SB, GB.   I'm out.

Yes, Houston traffic sucks, the city is spread out like mad, has no public transportation and is miserably hot and humid for six months out of the year but it's a cool city.  It has great food, arts, museums, parks, breweries and strip clubs and every ethnicity imaginable lives here.  October through May has awesome weather.  No place is perfect for sure, but Houston gets a bad rap from people who spend a day or two here.  Spend a little time and you just might like it.
