Today in History is the day John Lennon was killed. I'm playing a few Lennon/Beatle songs instead of stuff from the regular "if you work quietly, we can listen to music" playlist.
One girl asked if I was going to play any thing off of "Sgt. Peters".

We have 5-7 inches over here in Central Oregon. Probably get the freezing rain tonight. School will be full go, everything will proceed as normal. Ya'll are a buncha poosies over there in PDX.

Folks, please teach your children patience. I tried to pre-(pre-?)check-in on my flight for Saturday morning. I KNOW I can't do it more than 24 hours before take off, but I have tried twice today and been pissed both times it didn't take. If it were possible, I'd already be at the airport hoping the flight would be 36 hours early

I recall him being named honorary captain of the Penguins one year. Think it was after they won the Cup in '91. First home game of the season they have him skate out to center ice of the old Civic Arena to get his captain's sweater(No jersey. A cardigan sweater. Of course). You'd have thought Van Halen had just took the stage, and that was 18-20k mostly adults.
Never really considered it, but I miss him too. Dude was way too good for this ####ball we live on.

I recall an episode where Fred was taking around prints of portraits of some of the characters from the "make believe" segments that he had gotten framed(or somethin') to the people who played them in the "real neighborhood" (e.g. a picture of Bob Dog to Bob Trow, a picture of Handyman Negri to Joe Negri, picture of the Chef to Don Brockett, etc). The gimmick on this episode was Fred accidentally ripped the picture of Bob Dog and he had to decide how to break it to Trow. Upon delivering it, after he gives it to Trow they do some kind of quick jingle/or song(as usual), then Fred says something to the camera and they cut to some other kind of learning dealie before they resolved anything. I vividly recall telling my older sister that I bet Mr. Rogers and "that workshop guy" probably started duking it out as soon as the camera was off of them. She slugged me with a pillow from our couch and told me to shut my stupid mouth. Very UN-neighborly. I probably told her that Mr. Rogers would never let her in his house after I told him what she did.
No idea where the hell that memory came from, but I can see it with 100% clarity in my mind.
Fun Fact for Today: Joe Negri is freaking 90 and still doing jazz guitar gigs, apparently.

I also went to a Christmas party for my local professional group and it was lit as ####. I raised a few grand off the books this year to have a real nice company party at our local casino.
The president of my company and all of our salesmen are in town this week for our "holiday" party tomorrow night which normally doesn't happen. We might get one or so to come schmooze the ops people but whatevs. We have the room from 6-10. I've convinced all of the salesmen to open tabs at strategically different bars in the casino after we leave the party room. Gonna teach 2 of them PAI GOW!
Then I said to our president today "Hey Len, you gonna throw some manhole covers around on Friday night? Or am I going to have to pay for you too?"
That comment wasn't received very well. I'm really hoping to get fired.

My aunt & uncle were lifers in Pgh education (uncle @ Pitt, aunt in elem ed) and were the kind of snobby, chatbound Hillaryheads that make me hate my side of the political spectrum. But they were as Christ's disciples concerning Fred Rogers, hosting huge ed-community parties just for the chance he'd stop by. These smug glibsters would go blank when his name came up and you could tell it was because they'd put themselves in his presence at the mention and there apparently was no better place on earth to be than within Mister Rogers's attention. "The world would just fall away, it was just you & him" was the gist of their response each time.

Our first house was a tiny 1,100 sq ft ranch with one open room that had the kitchen,dining,living area (think like an apartment type setup). Anyway my wife would be talking on the phone in the bedroom, walk down the hallway, put her hand on the phone and say 'could you turn the TV off? I'm on the phone.'So this just happened.

Total badasssss. His legacy lives on with Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood which, for little kids' TV, isn't too bad. One of the sponsors runs a commercial featuring two dads. I think Mr. Rogers would be proud of that.mr. furley said:
