GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (17 Viewers)

You know what's not fun? Mental illness. Apparently 2016 just really wanted to make sure that I knew that it could be as horrible as 2014 and 2015 were.

Page 2....

Just got done skiing for first time of the year. We already have Feb levels of snow and it's supposed to dump another 4 feet the next week.

Yikes. This is gonna be a long day. Been up since midnight ET after 2 hours of sleep. I can't sleep on a plane, so I'm at least 12 hours away from any real rest. Wait- I know! I'll start drinking! That'll surely help, right? RIGHT?

As Homer once said, drinking is the solution to all of life's problems.  I think there was more to that but I don't pay attention to that part.

I've sold three pairs of skis out of my garage in the last couple weeks. A kid in Jan 15, brain surgery in Jan 16, and another kid in Jan 17 means I used to be a skiier. No sense in having them sit there depreciating. :kicksrock:
I did similar at that stage of life minus the brain surgery. But then my kids grew up and I had to teach them how to ski. Win/win

Total badasssss.  His legacy lives on with Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood which, for little kids' TV, isn't too bad.  One of the sponsors runs a commercial featuring two dads.  I think Mr. Rogers would be proud of that.
Love Mr. Rogers. We dont let our kid watch much tv, but I have been home with his sick ### this week and we have watched Daniel Tiger on a loop. It isnt the same, but dare I say that the closing little song brings a tear to my eye sharing it with my boy.

Mr. Rogers son lived in the same neighborhood as my aunt. He was a little off.

Thoughts and prayers, GB.  I hope they catch the guy who put a gun to your head and forced you to take a vacation in Mexico.

Kellen slipped off a rising chair lift and dangled by his armpit while my calm and serene wife shrieked in horror unable to do anything to help.  In my one act of brave heroics, I was able to reach up to his skis to unclip them and convinced him to drop into my arms, where I caught him like a male cheerleader might catch his female partner.  The stoned lift operator stood by with a rope....a rope!  There was applause from skiers watching on. My wife had to do the long ride of shame up and down.  That was 2011. We haven't skied since.  Think of all the $$$$ we saved!

Few years back my oldest daughter got on the chair by herself. She was like 9 or 10 at the time. The stoned lift operator asked if he should stop her I said no she's fine she knows how to ride the chair.

So me and son and 2nd daughter get on the next chair and then I realize my alone daughter in the chair in front is too short to pull the safety bar down. And it's super ####### windy. And it's 100 ft drop.

Dad of the year

where do you go skiing?  i've never skied oregon.  i've heard good things though
Assume he's heading to Mt. Hood, which has many options and is less than an hour away on a good day.  Mt. Bachelor near Bend is fantastic.  There's many other options available but Hood is the closest and best for Portland residents.

I saw Mt. Bachelor during the summer a couple of years ago.  Pretty cool that those trees grow like that so there are open places to ski.

skiing is ####### awesome.  it's an incredibly fun family activity.  plus, my kid loves it and will go do a run by herself while i finish my cocktail at the bar.  she's 10

The Native Americans in the area - the thrill seeking Hipstertonkatonks - were fabulous skiers, strapping beaver tails to their feet and shredding the gnar with gusto that would make Shawn White envious.  When Meriwether Lewis arrived in 1804, Chief Powder took him on his first run, prompting Lewis to write back to President Jefferson - "The natives here are fearless and full of adventure.  I shat myself thrice attempting to follow them down the steep slopes. I'd rather have dysentery then do this again".

Actually true.

You had me up until "Meriwether".  Totally fake name.

:lmao:  such bull ####.

I get like 7-8 work related emails a day.  I need to respond to maybe half of those.  The rest are "memos".

I can't speak for every teacher in American but if you get so many emails from parents that you can't respond to all of them...you're doing something wrong.

Want to know your kids grade(s)? Here is the   Parent Access Point.

Want to know what's going on in class?  Here is my website with daily updates.

Need more than that?  Now you can email me.
I've gotten 4 emails from the boy's schools the last couple of weeks asking for donations to teachers partys and baby showers.  Seriously, WTMF.  I considered replying "Well I was going to give YOU a gift card but if you would rather I just bring some cookies up for everybody, just let me know."
