thank you.  and it's grape soda as well.  not sprite.  duh
In Houston and other parts of Texas, where it originated, it is often made with Big Red. Big Red is an awful regional soda that is bright red and tastes like really terrible bubble gum. I guess the color of the cough syrup combined with the Big Red leads to a bit of a purple hue.

Up until about 8th grade, my taste buds were very fond of regional craft sodas: Big Red, Barq's Root Beer, and Nesbitt's Orange (or sometimes Grape). soda.

But at the time I'd most likely get Mr. Cola, since it came in 16 oz bottles and the other came in 10.

I tried Big Red once when I was at the University of Texas. It is vile.

Meh, not worth mentioning. Never had a back and forth with this.....Thing.  Just disinterested in even seeing its contributions on this board.
Oh, so the guy who drew all the wiener/things-that-look-like-######s-but-no-man-those-aren't-really-######s-what-are-you-a-sicko-oh-yeah-those-are-######s doodles?

Yeah, I get that.

First they came for the ######s and I said nothing.
Then they came for the ####, and I did not speak out.

Then they came for me, and there were no ######s or #### left to speak out for me.

I suppose it shouldn't shock me, since for eons the site has been censoring Richard LeBeau's nickname.

I'll allow it

It's vanilla cream soda.  It's not intended for adult taste.  It is really, really sweet ...like makes your lips sticky kind of sweet.  Cream soda comes in several colors - golden like ginger ale, blue, clear, brown, but I only remember it being red when I was a kid.

I loved it as a kid.  Had it as often as my mom would break down and buy some Barq's for me in addition to the 1 six pack of RC Cola she would get once a week.  Always got stuck with the big can of Hi-C.  Not even Tang dammit.

Little League - we always got a free drink after each game ...####### cream soda for me every time.  And as much shoestring red licorice as I could carry at a penny a piece.  We went berserk when we could get purple grape shoestring licorice.

Team Big Red. Was always the perfect compliment to BBQ back before I was old enough to drink in restaurants.

Haven't had one in a long time since I gave up sodas back in aught eight.

Actual cream soda is fine. Too sweet for me now, most of the time, but still consumable. Big Red was never consumable.
