I'm fixing washing machine. I tell BeerKid, who is hanging out with a friend in the garage,he needs to help for a few minutes.

He gripes a bit. I tell him that he uses the washing machine too (even if he doesn't, he needs to help).

He says "your friends use the pool too!"

Me "I take out the garbage"

Him "Who the hell is Ron Johnson?"

I just cannot believe it.  Now most of that has to do with knowing nothing of art.  But I thought price tags that high were reserved for, you know....dead guys who reached a level of fame.  How many living 30ish year olds are out there selling single pieces of art for $15 Million dollars?  This is astounding.

the Guggenheim here in NYC had a show of my HS friend years ago... was the first point I realized he had "made" it. haven't really seen him since college- he set me up with my ex at a party at his house one summer. yeah- my own miserable state is certainly highlighted in contrast to his (and my clients), but I couldn't be happier for him- he wanted to do this as long as I've known him, and he's always been a good, decent and funny guy. but #### him.

oh...to rub more salt into things- our new neighbor... a young guy with a personal assistant who bought the apartment immediately next to us for 2m and sounded like he ####ed a prostitute in his doorway the first night he moved in (sounded like he was right in our apartment, with lots of cartoony moaning and groaning from the pro)... saw him in the hall today as he was leaving for toronto for the weekend... "yeah- we've got a screening (or something) for my show... did I mention I created a tv show?... Master of None". he's the co-creator, not the bindi dot.

wife and I thought he was some financial jag-off... so at least this is a positive. and if I can figure out some blackmail plan, maybe we can get him to put the kids in the show.

I don't know enough about art to say whether his paintings are "good" or not or to opine on his talent. But based on an image search of his work, he doesn't show a huge amount of range.

I guess the bottom line is that the art world is a market, more or less like any other, and the art world is telling us this guy is immensely talented and putting huge money behind that judgement. 

This does make me wonder if my go-to doodle that I do on conference calls, of hundreds (or thousands, depending on the call) of partially overlapping squares and rectangles, is something I should focus on more.

Sweet!  I bet mine will take longer.  Always does at this place.  Not a lot of Subaru dealers in the Tampa area and those that do have Saturday service hours are always booked full weeks out hence the reason I came to BFE FL for an oil change, tire rotation, mystery recall, and unclogging wiper fluid hose for rear wiper.  Whew!

art is weird.  my mom is a very good artist. she has been in quite a few shows and moca requested a piece of her art to be displayed in one of their shows.  she's sold a few pieces over the years for a few thousand and she's given away quite a lot of it.  she would never let me price them.  i told her, 100k minimum and see what happens.  she informed me that's not what art is about.     and floppo's guy's art?  limited is kind.

I saved a squirrel yesterday (at least I hope so).

Was walking to the library and saw a squirrel under a SUV, drinking from a puddle. As I got closer. I saw it was antifreeze 

I made a bunch of noise and threw a stick under the SUV. It ran out. As I walked by the SUV, I saw him and said "I saved your life bro" 

I swear I saw the slightest of nods from the squirrel.

After her dad died, my wife brought home this hideous Dali-wannabe painting her dad had bought in the Carolinas when it was said there artist was an up and come. Hung out on the wall claiming it was worth upwards of 6 digits. I googled that ####... 5 digits, if you count decimal points. And regardless, we still have this lame pos hanging on the walls.

I think those guys are called cartoonists. 

Looks good, of course, but I have no idea what is going on. Wish I had that sort of talent, whatever it may be. 

I've been reading a bit and thinking about looking into photography, but I have no clue what produces the prices for some of that either. I'll just be filming wildlife, mostly.
