GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (8 Viewers)

So the 100th PGA championship is going to be in St Louis next year and I've got a chance to get tickets and go. I've never been to a professional golf event and was thinking of going.

Here are the ticket options:

Tickets available for purchase include*:
Practice Round Tickets (Mon - Wed) - $35 per daily ticket
Championship Round Tickets (Thu - Sun) - $100 per daily ticket
Season Grounds Ticket Package (Mon - Sun) - $325

What's the best option? One day enough? Or is the package too good of a deal? No idea what to expect.
recently went to an LPGA event in GB, not a direct comparison but my thoughts:

get the practice round tix if you want to see the grounds, see the golfers, check out the swag that's being sold, etc.

the LPGA event was lightly peopled but it was still difficult enough to really get a sense of what was happening around. the narrative was missing. it was awesome to walk the grounds, see the ladies up close and just be there but it felt like being in a vacuum. so much was happening around the course but we didn't know any of it.

wound up being a clutch 18th hole birdie putt to win but we had no idea any drama was unfolding until the last 15 minutes.

$100 to stand 7 deep in a crowd hoping to see over the top, maybe, seems nuts to me.  we walked around the course, setup at a hole for a couple groups, then moved on. it was cool but i think next time i'd follow a single group and hope for the best.

we just got a puppy from the humane society today at lunch.   I had to go get him cuz the wife had a hair appt.   so i put him in the passenger seat for the 20 min ride home and the little grubber crawls over the console into my lap.   Soon as i got him home my kids about crapped their pants.   they're totally excited.

I will say he's a cute little guy.   boxer/terrier mix.

Hack's news kind of makes me feel like a heel for posting this, buuuut.....it appears that Operation: Cali is a go for my bride and I.  Got an official offer(re-offer, really) today from the place in the OC.  So, now I get to go into "chicken with its head cut off, move your #### crosscountry for the third time in 2 years" mode again.  As much as I don't look forward to that drive again, I certainly am looking forward to the work.
that's ####### great!

OFFICIALLY unemployed for the first time in my life.  The venture I joined out here 15 months ago officially folded yesterday, so I worked the last two weeks for free.  Neat.

I think I'm just going to take a month-long break for the first time in 22 years.  No official breaks from work other than regular PTO.

It's looking like biking, disc golf and hiking every day until the end of the summer.  Wooooooooooooooooooooo!
Both happy and sad for you, but don't doubt in the least that you'll find something great when you decide to stop being a bum.

Thanks.  Funny how crap can work out sometime, because turning this down back in April was a bitter, bitter pill.  Have not been in a great headspace since.  Greatly looking forward to when I can finally fully "unclench."
It may take a while. I was unemployed for 20 months. I still keep more cash in my checking account than I should, six years later.

jfc

I am jonesing for a dog.. as is 6yo floppinha. 10yo floppinha is terrified of them and 22yo-ish wife is smarter than me and remembers that having a dog in our small apartment needing to be walked multiple times a day... not a good idea. our cats are both ambivalent.
Wait your wife is only 22 and you have a 10 year old :oldunsure:

What caused her to finally cave?
I can only guess, really, and it's probably a combination of the following:  I assume an additional 90+ days of zero nibbles for me in the local markets drove home my point from over a year ago (that this market is basically hopeless for my work).  In that time I was also able to land a couple decent freelance contracts that allowed me to pay down some debt, so our monthly "outgoing" has been shaved down a bit from April too, so I'd wager that is also a check in the positive column that wasn't there before.   Her job is also looking like it's about to go ninnies up (was one of the targets of that hack from almost two months back), so there was a very real chance we'd have both been unemployed soon if things broke poorly.

Or, maybe I'm just being cynical as hell.  Maybe she just finally heard me when we sat down about a month ago, or so, and I made it abundantly clear that I wasn't going to be driven by another person's fear anymore, and if another solid opportunity came up anywhere I was taking it because it's what needed to happen for me to take care of this family.

What's this part all about?

that's just the nature of puppies energy and teething.   here he is   https://www.oregonhumane.org/adopt/details/206523/

cute little ####er.
Looks blunted.  I like him. :)

I'll probably be hitting you up with questions about rentals we find soon (neighborhoods they're in/etc.)  Really appreciate it.

Yeah, I expect I'll keep doing more freelance projects than I really should for a while just because my "trust" has pretty much been murdered at this point.

What's this part all about?
Biggest reason I passed on this offer back in April was because of my wife's paralysis over "What if this winds up like the last time (gig in Reno) in 10 months, but it'll be in a place that's way more expensive month to month!??!?" type stuff.   She was inconsolable and unconvinceable at the time that, while the initial period of moving/acclimating to the new area would require us to be very mindful of finances, that it could well wind up being a pretty big win long-term.  She already had me getting laid off/fired/whatever and I hadn't even accepted the offer.   I backed off because I didn't want to press it to an "ultimatum" level, so I pretty much acquiesced to continuing to try to find something in FL because she was too afraid to make the leap on moving.  That's the nutshell version.

So, are we going with just putting an 'x' in front of a name (xTina, Xavion, etc.) or is this something more sinister like dropping the first half of Alexander a la Topher?

See, the kid's name is xZander.  That's not really a normal name.  Sounds like something from Plan 9 From Outer Space.  The Simpsons is an animated comedy from the last three decades.  One of the characters is Kang, an alien trying to take over the world.  The joke is that xZander is similar to Kang.

HTH.

Sorry, and congrats.

So so so happy for you, GB.

I read 'hack's post and was going to post congrats (actually actually true) and then read all the "sorry" posts and realized I must have misunderstood.  I thought the unemployment and hiking/golfing/####### around sounded glorious, for a time at least.  'hack, you going to stay in Oregon?

Pics or it didn't happen.

Kang is spelled correctly.

MoCS, you like Will Oldham's various iterations?  Louisville boy, ya know.  Was just singing a song of his on the trail yesterday.
I have decided to begin at the beginning...

...listening to Palace Brothers - There Is No-One What Will Take Care Of You right now...

....enjoying it very much.

Also, in doing my research on where to begin, I stumbled upon this quote at Wikipedia:

He has been called an "Appalachian post-punk solipsist"...
Have you been reading any of my nutty philosophical rants before bringing him up? Because that description could fit some of them quite well.

Thus, I'll be reading his lyrics as well. ;)

Edit: Now on to: Days in the Wake – Palace Brothers (1994)

and Viva Last Blues – Palace Music (1995)

and Arise Therefore – Palace Music (1996)

                          and Will Oldham - Joya

and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - I See a Darkness (Full Album)

and Ease Down the Road – Bonnie 'Prince' Billy (2001)

                          and...still diggin it.

And yes, it has been a night of insomnia.

How do you know?

I could possibly be proper on their planet to spell it, "Kcang".

Just sayin...
Kzang
OK, TB...

I was preparing myself for battle on this.

I dug out my Babylonian books on the Anunnaki, my Egyptian Book of the Dead, my Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and all my DVDs of StarGate SG1, in order to cite the proofs for my version.

Only then, did I realize that I did not account for the atypical glottal stop involved, in my original transcription/translation. :(

Thus, I concede to your correction.

Kudos.

Never let it be said that I am not a Man to admit my mistakes. :)
