GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (16 Viewers)

This morning I take the puppy out at 6am and she pees outside.  Then 10 minutes after bringing her back in she pees again on the floor.  How is this possible?
While you were taking her for a walk, someone else in your house peed on the floor.  When you got back she was just reclaiming her territory.

just saw pics and video of St Barts, St Maarten and Anguilla (where I got married... drifter too)- all of which took direct hits- under water and wrecked. :(

@DA RAIDERS  any word from your sister?
1 hour ago  these are the outer bands just starting to hit.  haven't heard from her in the last 30 minutes or so.  i expect they will lose power and cell service in the next hour or so.

Why have I been avoiding tuna all these years?  High in protein.  Low in fat.  Great on a salad.  And 100% of the RDA of Selenium!
The grocery store down the street from my office had a sandwich lady who made the best tuna sandwich in the world.  That store closed a couple years ago and nothing came back in.  I haven't had a tuna sandwich since.  I miss her.  And the sandwich. :(

I think I always associated it with tuna salad, which is, of course, awful.  But a nice pouch of tuna with some spinach and broccoli sprouts?  Delightful.

I don't understand Chaos Commish's decisions to abandon alcohol without a Homer J-esque need and some kind of intervention from a concerned second party.
It wasn't a conscious decision. I never put a thought to it. More like a dry week happened and I made some positive observations. I think alcohol may have abandoned me. I read this and thought it would be funny to drink enough to post something funny about it. I pulled a nice bottle of wine from storage, admired it, and put it back.

I don't always do opiates but when I do I prefer fentynal.

This hurricane. I can't stop watching. Dumb but I've always wanted to ride one out just feel and hear the power. The prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda is claiming they took the full force and came out with no casualties. Awesome. Confident you sis will be fine, Da Raiders. Said a prayer for her anyway.

You cook, make your own version of her's and make a couple of new versions.  You'll end up liking it even more.

he said that... but nobody's heard from Barbuda yet (according to local antigua news websites I keep checking)- so not sure why he'd make that claim for the sister island. reportedly waiting for winds to die a bit before flying by chopter there to recon.

this is kind of how I quit smoking weed.  I started when I was 9 years old and from 14-28 I got high every day.   then I left my bag at someone's house and didn't get around to buying more for a while.   by then it had been weeks and I didn't miss it.  haven't touched it more than half a dozen times in the last 20 years.

just checked again... twitter feeds are full of people asking for ANY news from people on barbuda. the main Antigua/Barbuda news outlet's facebook page says all-clear has been issued... for Antigua.. .with flood warnings in effect. comments after that are by locals begging them to concentrate on barbuda to give any news whatsoever... hoping that the all-clear means the helicopter can fly over to check on the island.

eta:

in spite of all communication with the island apparently ceasing at 12:30am the previous night, here's the PM's statement (maybe he has info nobody else on the internet has about the wellbeing of barbuda):

....

With regard to Barbuda, preliminary reports indicate damage to rooves and to some buildings, but I have had no report of any fatalities.

Barbuda too benefitted from a high level of readiness, responsive to the urgings of the government and from the preparations that were made in advance, including the shelter constructed for that purpose.

I was able to drive through many areas of Antigua since 5.30 this morning and I was heartened by what I saw.

I intend to visit Barbuda at the earliest opportunity to see conditions on the island for myself.

Meantime, it is clear that Antigua and Barbuda has stood up to a mighty test.

still nothing from barbuda. don't know why I'm obsessing on this... maybe the PM giving the "hooray, we made it" statement without actually having heard from the sister island has me agitated. also those 2k people who have been radio silent since last night. thopraws to them- and to all of those in the middle of this (DR's sister).

a graph of windspeed/bar pressure from barbuda  that last hour is absolutely insane. off the cliff, up the cliff.

ANNOUNCE:

I am on vacation. All posts from now through Tuesday should be assumed to be drunken, or otherwise attitude-adjusted. Thoprawishes for my long-suffering liver are gratefully accepted.

But unless you're driving around Haiti or something, what are the odds you get into an accident with some degenerate with no car insurance?

Dammit I guess I should get it. So stupid.
2 out of every 3 people in this country are poor Mexicans without insurance looking to steal your birthright. It's true. [/realdonaldtrump]

Can also, depending upon what specific coverage you get, cover for hit-and-run douchebags, such as the one who left my car all mangly in a parking lot a month or so ago.  But I think it would depend upon what your car is worth.  For a newer car, sure.  For a 10-year-old one, notsomuch.

Tell Oliver to check his pms. I sent him one a long time ago about some vinyl shop you mentioned
OK.  He's not good about checking this site, or PMs, or email, or most other things.  If you want to reach him, you might find it best to send to or copy me, though I'll mention this to him.  My email is [firstname][a][lastname]@gmail.  Without the brackets, and with the real names filled in, you know.

Years ago, like before the innerwebs were here, I read an amazing account written first hand by a guy who rode out Andrew or Hugo. My mind sucks, sorry. Anyway, he found safe harbor in some small Caribbean island and well, it was harrowing to read. I share this here in case anyone knows what I am talking about and can link to it. I read it in an old fashioned thing called a magazine in some place called a library. I would love to read it again. He describes the sound of the wind as sheet metal whipping overhead at 120mph. Anyone?
