work on the architectural side of the office has been really, really slow. I've been helping out with the interiors side doing things I should never be doing.whoa. What were the circumstances? What the hell happened?
Sorry flop - things like this end up working out for the better ...keep the faith.work on the architectural side of the office has been really, really slow. I've been helping out with the interiors side doing things I should never be doing.
it's not a giant surprise given that- and they've kept me around previuosly when work has dried up. I made sure it wasn't anything about my work (it wasn't). but we had a couple projects about to start (that have been "about to start" for a few month) that they just couldn't wait on any more. if they start before I find new work, they're bringing me back.
I'm still in shock/#### mode. with a family of four and living in NYC, I need the paychecks- so I can't afford to sit around and wait.
Could have been worse. Credit-card tab of $75 for drinks and $200 cash for dances. No identifiable lesions...yet.Update?I'm at Twin Peaks for a late supper. There is an ATM next door and a jiggle joint down the way. Bad decisions in 3...2...1....
Ouch. Good luck.work on the architectural side of the office has been really, really slow. I've been helping out with the interiors side doing things I should never be doing.

i don't know how the scarf world* works, but that bit about bringing you back if the jobs start, just seems like horse ####. find something better!work on the architectural side of the office has been really, really slow. So sorry man. Wish I could help. This ####### sucks.
But boss and office manager we're both very warm, appreciative, apologetic. Every other person that's been let go is pushed out the door before saying bye to anybody. Everybody's offering to make inroads for me elsewhere, which is better than a kick in the ###. And a months severance... Which will hopefully buy me enough time to find what's next.
But this ####### sucks.
Haven't told the wife yet. ####. Can't stand the thought of seeing the kids. ####.
If I moved to washington, it sounds like I could just run the ol' bait and switch game out there. (sorry redmond)Sorry, EF. If you want to move to Washington, I know an architect who is swamped with work and looking for help. May not be your specialty.
Well, ####. That blows, brother.This ####### sucks.
A month.shuke said:Sorry flop. Any severance?
Linked In can be a good resource toothanks again for the thoughts everybody.
Told my oldest last night... Told him I was looking for better work so would be around more until I get it. Tried to phrase it as a positive action on my part... He gets really emotional about things, so I don't want him worrying about me or us. Seemed to work.
I've got a meeting at 10 with the top headhunter in my stupid field. Looks like there's a bunch of stuff out there, so hopefully this is a kick in the butt towards something better.

We're pretty happy here, other than being po folk in the big city. The wife is currently being head hunted for a position in design mecca Antwerp, Belgium... Big enough move for you?Flop, any thoughts on moving? I know it's a tough decision and easy to say from an internet person who doesn't personally know you, your kids, your life, etc.....but the US (or even the world) is a big place. I would think that certain cities would be in a much bigger need of experienced architects than others.
Just a thought....good luck either way.
Now go make your family some pancakes!![]()
Great beer and you can put mayonaise on fries and nobody will care. We're pretty happy here, other than being po folk in the big city. The wife is currently being head hunted for a position in design mecca Antwerp, Belgium... Big enough move for you?
