GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (17 Viewers)

The main reasons I didn't go to the doctor today is because I am between jobs and don't have health insurance, just dental and vision through cobra.  I never need to go to the doctor so I didn't feel like $500 a month for health insurance via cobra was worth it.  Also, I have had a concussion before and the doctors couldn't do anything about it.  You just need to rest.  The bigger concern is that in getting this concussion, I may have broken my jaw.  It's so painful, although I am skeptical it's broken because I think it would be worse if it was actually broken, because I can chew a little and it's not black and blue, it's just a little swollen and very painful.  Since I have dental insurance I will see if any are in the office tomorrow and get some x-rays.  I am a mess right now.
Not a doctor, and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night/don't play one on TV, but If you are able to chew your jaw ain't broken.

I wouldn't eff with the concussion part of it though.  "All I need is rest" sounds great....until you find out too late you were building up pressure inside your dome from a broken capillary or somethin'.

$78 spent so far on charcoal to burn out two dogwood stumps in the back yard. They're maybe halfway burned down after three days. A stump grinder would've been $150.

18 year old nephew is a Trumper who feels that the kneeling is the worst thing ever and mainstream media is fake news. Literally said ‘you can’t trust a word they say - it’s all fake news’

I said ‘so when NBC reported there was a hurricane in Houston that was fake news?’

’Uh, no but they can spin anything they want for their agendas.’

‘Oh. Ok. So the entire media has an agenda?’

’No not all. I think Fox and some online sources tell the truth.’

My brother (his dad) is nodding and grinning in agreement. Then nephew declared he dislikes Brees ‘cause he kneeled.’

Good god, @RC94, I'm with these other guys.  Don't mess around, especially given this is not your first concussion.  If you can't go to the ER, could you at least get a friend or someone to stay with you for the night to monitor you until you go to the doctor tomorrow. :(

I appreciate the concern.  I should be ok for the night.  I have been home for a couple of hours now and am starting to feel much better now that I can rest.  Being in a car and then the subway was a really bad idea, but I'm definitely starting to feel better now.  That said, if I don't wake up tomorrow I want you guys to know that I love you all and it's been fun spending time with you guys in this thread.

Thank God I don't have relatives like some of you. I'd probably beat the crap out of someone.

"Listen pops, I'm here to eat turkey and kick ###, pick which one you want, otherwise be quiet please and pass the gravy"

Ohh, and I got nauseous after the first plate of food and had to fight back barfing for the next two hours. Worst Thanksgiving ever

Had a very pleasant TG.  No politics (really wacko brother wasn’t there) or real drama.

Although we did eat almost 1.5 hours later than planned because my mom didn’t cook the turkey long enough at first.

I did hear a great joke from my nephew’s 6 year old de facto step daughter:

Knoc knock

who’s there?

Cow

Cow who?

Cow your face

As if life weren't good enough already, there's a Season 3 of Neature Walks out now.

Great thanksgiving with the exception of a family moment.  Watching planes trains and automobiles with gf and my friend passed out on separate couches. Had a dozen people in and out today.  Last man standing.  Shots anyone?

I still feel like I was hit by a truck, but I am hoping a dentist is open today.  This will be the first time I go to a dentist who isn't my father, who recently retired.

If you're worried about your jaw being broken, why not go to an urgent care facility? They could take a look at both your jaw and check your concussion and most UC places are pretty reasonable.

In all honestly, glad you posted this morning. I went to bed legitimately worried we wouldn't hear from you again.

I appreciate it.

I don't think it's broken since I was able to eat pancakes this morning.  It feels like it's the step right before breaking, but I want to make sure.  The hours listed on their website say they will be open in an hour.

I have heard many times over the years that it's hard to find a good dentist.  I've been grateful it's never been something I had to be concerned about, until now.  I hope this dentist is good.

I'm glad you're alive.

I'm also waaay overdue for the dentist... My dad was also a dentist but died.

I have been calling and none of the dentists are in the office today.  There is an urgent care office near my place so I will head over there and see if they have the equipment to look at my jaw.  Otherwise I will have to wait until Monday.  My advice is don't get hurt or sick during a major holiday.

You near a CityMD? I've had great luck with those places

my MIL put the turkey in for 4.5 hours

she, allegedly, started thawing it on Tuesday.  the dark meat looked like intestines. same color and slimy consistency.

thank #### i started a fully thawed bone-in ham in a slow cooker at 6:30 AM so that by 2 when we ate it was well ready.

you know how people lament how stupid men are about their health? how you know someone whose dad died of a massive heart attack because for 2 days he told everyone about his terrible indigestion but refused to go to the doctor "because it ain't that bad".

you're that guy

RIP

@RC94 Seriously.  Just go to urgent care already.  It won't be that much money. And your story as to how it happened is nuts. That's crazy.

I'm not really like that.  Maybe a little sometimes, but I decided to go to City MD anyway since it was $125 without insurance, which is worth it in the right situation and I think a concussion is that.  They said there isn't really anything they can do, and to get rest and stay out of moving vehicles, which makes it much worse.  I will go to the dentist on Monday when they are back in the office.  I have a job interview on Thursday so I plan on taking it easy until then.

I would have told you the same thing for $75

I'd think he could still do a reasonable "check you out and see if you need immediate care" exam.
He did, but he said I need to get x-rays.

ETA - he also said he doesn't think it's broken.

So if he thought you were i an emergency situation, can we assume he would have had you go to an ER?

When did you see him?

Does he like you?
Yes, and he didn't think it was an emergency and he said it's not broken, but to be safe get x-rays if I want, which I will do if it doesn't get a little better by Monday.  I saw him yesterday.

According to the two friends I have who have broken their jaw, you will never "think" you break that.  You will KNOW.   No half measures.

If you can chew, even if it's just pancakes (wait until GM hears about THAT little nugget)....it ain't broken.  "You've got 5-ish's Guaranteeeeee!"*

*Guarantee void in Tennessee("Just don't look, just don't look!")

Could be a really bad bone bruise though.  X-rays a good bet, for sure.

Shout out to @krista4:

Grandman of Constant Sorrow had a great Turkey Day....

...he got to inform our entire family, this past week, that granola is good for his bowels...

...it made the dinner extra special!

And since "pooping" is "your thing"....

...I thought that I would share this secret.

;)
