GM's Thread About Everything/GM's Thread About Nothing (17 Viewers)

Thanks.  I will read the thread.     I do know a little about negotiation. ;)   Went to the dealer because I'm deciding between getting the same car that was totaled and a different one, and I wanted to sit in the latter one and see how it felt (no test drive).
Call and tell the salesman you need to have a private showing because you need to see how sitting in it feels on your bare skin.

Show up with this

New pupper is tired

also trying to chose between 3 available puppies was one of the toughest decisions I’ve had to make.  Deferred to my 7 year old since it’s “his dog” but man if they’d have let me I would have took all 4 * of them home (I’d have felt like the GM of dogs though)

*there was a 4th but she was the runt and not gaining weight at the same rate as others so they wanted her to be adopted with a sibling which one family previously agreed to do

Best way to negotiate is to do as little as possible.  I like to pit dealers against each other for the privilege of  my business and get the best deal in the process.

Lets file this one under getting old is neat.

As I mentioned a few days ago, I haven't been feeling well. Thankfully the headaches and fever went away but my gut still hurts. I have been all locked up like never before except when I broke my neck and was taking Percs & Vics (and sometimes whiskey) 24/7 for a month. So I decided to get a little help from my local Walgreens.

The boys just got off the bus when I arrived home and so I told them to get in the car so we could pick up Cal's new meds and something for me. The boys really seemed to enjoy the dozens of concoctions available and weren't shy to make recommendations but I decided on a delicate wild cherry flavor. We then made our way to the pharmacy to pick up the script. As I completed our transaction I noticed what I'm assuming is a young Rob Lowe look alike giving me a very concerned look observing an old guy with two young boys buying a bottle of laxative and prescription pills.

We arrived home and I'm anxious to release temple of doom so I don't bother to turn on the lights to read the recommended dosage. "Adults 9-10 oz" I check the bottle, its 10 oz total. I nod my head knowingly "so 10 oz" I think, makes sense. I unscrew the cap and begin to guzzle the contents. It had a distinguished wild cherry taste as promised but it also seemed to be cut with the bitterness of someone that marriex too young. The boys roared with laughter. Cal was doubled over with tears coming out of his eyes. It wasn't easy but I finished it. In retrospect I should have recorded it for a shot video.

Mrs. SLB arrived home about an hour later and immediately noticed the empty bottle. She inquired about the whereabouts of its contents and I brought her up to date on my plans and she called me an idiot, a common and generally accurate theme in our house. That's when I turned the lights on for some very helpful information. The 9-10 oz was the maximum over a 24 hour period. Speaking of periods, deep cherry red is a bad color for a laxative. It's like I was raped by King Brownie and I'm having a long night of multiple miscarriages.
For reference, a can of beer is 12 oz.

I was at the mall tonight attend they had a kiosk set up next to the food court for hello fresh. They had no samples, just someone there to sign you up.

How does that work exactly?

They're already selling IKEA takeout food.

You buy it on the web without knowing anything but a picture of what somebody else cooked with the same recipe.

And now these guys sit at a mall with a computer so they can help people... who suck at the internet... and are already at a mall food court... so you can imagine how much time and love they have for cooking...

None of this makes any sense.

Tonight's entertainment in the bar is a solo act with extensive backing tracks, including vocals. He also comes with his own cougar army of fans. He has some talent, but these gals are acting like he's Elvis or something.

So just watched Stanford Women Volleyball win NCAA again.  Their best player is the daughter of one of my pledge brothers at LB ST.

No negotiation?  If I were getting rid of the car, I'd have the opportunity to make a car salesperson cry or something.
You can definitely negotiate... It was a unique circumstance (classic car), but my last major accident I got roughly double the insurance company's initial offer.  It took about a month of negotiating, and a lot of work detailing exactly why their offer was total bull####.  If the offer is fair, and in the ballpark of what the replacement value is, I would just take it.

Krista should obviously fly out of the PNW and buy a Subie. Maybe a house.
I laughed, but then I looked into it.  Appears I could fly to Salt Lake City and buy one for about $5k less.  Quick flight down, then a 13 hour drive back. Under serious consideration.

It's pure garbage, is what it is.  Subarus are enormously popular here, so they think they can just add a $3k fee on top because they're in high demand.  This is where I bought the last one, and they didn't do that at the time.  Sure, they're popular, but they have a whole bunch sitting right there on the lot.  And there are a thousand Subaru dealers here.  We'll see how it all shakes out.
My in-laws are in Lake Tahoe, and everyone drives Subarus there too.  Same bull#### mark-up at the dealerships.  My mother-in-law went to her credit union and they have a car buying service where they negotiate for you and managed to get one from a dealership (I think) in the Bay Area that ended up being $4,000 less than she could negotiate any of the dealerships up there to.  The credit union even got it delivered to the branch.  Don't know if something like that is even an option up there

That's very cool.  I don't know if I have such an option, but I don't mind going somewhere and driving it back.  I love to drive.

I get supply and demand and blahblahblah, but I just don't like the shadiness of it.  They put it right by the MSRP as if it were part of the "sticker" price, not that it's just a BS money grab by the dealer itself.

So far I've been in touch with two dealers who seem in no rush to sell me a car despite the fact I've said I'll buy in the next week.  Can't even get a price out of them.  I'll contact more but am warming to the idea of a roadtrip instead.

what were the shots? I did a bunch of prolotherapy on my knees Friday.
Steroid shot.  Helped with the pain quite a bit.  Still cant walk on it and putting any weight on it leaves it ache a little bit.  So next step is MRI on Tuesday. There is a possibility of slight cartilage damage also. So we will check that out and see If we replace the knee.

This has been the weirdest experience.  Four full days off the norco and I'm still having withdrawals.  Just ####### with me with mood swings.  I've cried out of nowhere and then two minutes later I'm laughing my ### off singing the oscar meyer weiner song.

I agree about making the dealers compete for your business.  The way I determine where to buy a car is to get a group of friends and have each one of us go to a different car dealership.  Take a test drive of the different cars I am considering (along with the salesperson).  We meet up in a field or an empty parking lot and park the cars around each other to form an inescapable ring.  Then I put all of the salespeople together in the middle with some crude gladiator style weapons and tell them that I will buy a car from whoever lives.
Please tell me you impale the loser's head on your antenna

Warm up to the idea of a Lexus.

What is prolotherapy? I've never had any issues with my knees before.
Basically injecting sugar water and ozone into the kneecap.

Its possible it will ignite new growth and healing in the knee. I've had pretty good luck with it so far. I've also tried PRP (plasma rich something_ and stem cells. None is covered by insurance, but I really really do not want to replace my knee and I am trying to get it to regenerate a little bit and heal itslf.

sigh

Steroid shots work. They calm down the pain pretty well. Problem is that its not fixing anything and in fact degenerates the knee/tissue.

As far as the Norco. Follow my rules and you'll never have trouble:

Never take more than two days in a row

Never take more than three in one day'

If you take them two days in a row, you must go two days without.

This never give your body a chance to get physically addicted. Just buck up through the pain days with tylenol and know you can have some more later if you're careful and respectful of opioids.

Hope that works.   I started out with a small tear in the meniscus.  Walked on it fine into pt.  Came out fine with 20 percent more range of motion.  Was happy and was told this would heal in 12 weeks.   Next day, which was 15 days ago, I have not been able to walk on it and incredibly painful until today. So last Tuesday we gave it the shot and hoping it was just thr meniscus and that would fix it.  But he also thought the massive aching my be some bleeding in cartilage area. So much fun.

Three a day was my max.  Dont know if I could have skipped a day those first few days.  Pain was insane.

I needed one yesterday and just bit the bullet.   I'm not a fan of this type of medicine at all.

Tylenol hasn't worked.  Cant take advil as I'm on warfarin for life.

Cbd oil helped with the massive headaches I had the first two days not using it.

Appreciate all your advice. GB.

Make them cry!  Video it, so furley sees how it’s done.

Replace the knee?   I have seriously f’d With my knees and feel that I am no where near replacing either one of them. The left one is held together by some dead guys’ Achilles’ tendon.(Henry) It has nearly no meniscus. Cartilage?  Lacking.   Right knee?  Has some congenital defects, meniscus issues and again, cartilage? ;)

hang in there. And I’ll pm you my address for those norcos

My mom, one tough s.o.b., went through years of agony with bad hips. She had then both replaced in around 8 months. The relief from pain was staggering. Her take?  Whytf didn’t I do this earlier.   Modern medicine is miraculous.

Miss you dude

I fail this  routine. Badly.

Drank a 12.6% Cascade Sour last night called Pumpkin Smash.  Strongest sour I’ve had to date.  Not sure I could drink these on a regular basis.

Never had a sour I liked.

Worked an insane 14 hour day today, can’t seem to unwind.
They’re not for everyone, but I’m not an ipa fan like the rest of the world either.  Watching shows with characters that have monotone voices always help me relax/fall asleep.  Ghost Adventures is a good one for this.

I've had a 'catch' in my left hip for a couple of days. I can barely walk this morning. I definitely didn't overwork it in the gym, either. Getting old can suck it.  :kicksrock:

I don’t know about Washington, but if I do that here I have to pay double the registration fees and potentially an import tax into the state.

There’s a use tax that’s the same rate as the sales tax, but you get a credit for any sales tax you paid elsewhere.  Basically you just end up paying the WA sales tax rate.

Registration fees are the same and are dirt cheap here anyway.

Nice. I was mildly upset at the import tax on my recent car purchase and I believe threatened to my family to challenge the statute constitutionally as an improper interstate duty until I realized it was going to be less than the filing fee.

:lmao:   But it’s the principle!

I appreciate your having mentioned this.  It’s nice how we GMTANners look out for each other.

Wait...what are you saying here?  Hank's, like, a zombie?  Wight?  Ghast?

Regardless, RIP, Capt. Beefheart?

They do the Subaru nonsense in Reno as well.  Everyone just goes to Sacramento to buy 'em.

My wife got to hear my “are you kidding me?” speech and then asked me how much it was.  I looked. It was like $150.

And yes I believe I did discuss the principle involved.

I think you should do this.   And please pick up some InNOut in SLC for me. All the drinks when you get to Boise.

IRS can process estimated payments for 2018, but can’t figure out how to process my 2017 payment from the exact same account, resulting in more penalties and interest.  Thanks, Obama.
