GM's thread about nothing (11 Viewers)

After that start, I think we need to redefine "winning" as "keeping Wimer from winning". Recommend following a good mod's rankings on the even rounds, and using Wimer's rankings on the odd ones, taking whoever he likes best when you pick before him on the turn. You're not winning your league by following the advice of the guy who had this to say about the Glen Coffee surprise retirement today:

Huh. Oh well, he wasn't on any of my dynasty teams...
but at least you can tilt him like a pinball machine.
 That comment bugged me too.
Where are you guys finding these pearls of wisdom?Didn't Wimer author some curious statements related to :lmao: ? I seem to recall the same sort of discarded chattel vibe then that I'm picking up now with regards to Coffee.

I couldn't make it through Clockwork. What an f'ing terrible movie.

:grenade:
Clockwork Orange?
Yeah.Maybe I didn't get it. Should I try watching it again? I found myself doing the ol' quite a bit.
You have to take it for what it is...when it was made etc. It comes off as a bit cartoonish these days. Of course the book is much better.
I've seen it a few times....once in HS - I didn't get it then. Once in college for a course I was taking - I began to appreciate it then. And finally, once in an old theater in Portland, stoned out of my mind and with a pitcher of micro-brew. I LOVED it. It's also my dad's favorite movie. And book. Book is fantasitc. But I think it took me some time to mature into a Kubrick fan. Some pretty memorable scenes for sure...."I'm singing in the rain" will never sound the same to me ever again.

I like a lot of Kubrick, but I just found this silly in a bad way. And I loved Good Burger. Also, I am thinking about getting a Kindle. With the copious amount of books that are online, begging to be :lmao: , it only makes sense. I'll try giving the book a try.

I like asking my lady if she wants to do the "Ole In out In Out" once in a while.
We just arch our eyebrows at each other. When I arch an eyebrow, it's hard to miss.

Camping on the Sacramento river with my boys and their football team and just realized that my spot int the tent is crooked. Please baby jeebus let these beers numb my back

I'd do some dirty naughty awful awesome things to Jen Til.
Aren't there two Tilly actresses?Combined they were in "The Big Chill", that awful "Chinatown" sequel where they played the daughter of Faye Dunaway, "Bound", and then one of them became poker players.I can't tell who is who.

Meg Tilly I think is the other one. I don't know much about her at all. Jennifer Tilly has the obnoxious voice, but is also buxom, lush and full of curves. She's the one who plays poker. I've watched "Bound" more times than I care to admit. :lmao: :lmao:

:lmao: Have you read the book by Anthony Burgess? I think it makes more sense that way.
I just started Infinite Jest. It might be awhile before I get to anything else, but I will keep it in mind.I do not wear "ball caps." Apparently none of you have ever suffered the indignation of going into a sporting goods store, asking for "the largest size they have", and WA LA (hi Smoo!), you're wearing a makeshift Oakland Athletics yarmulke. Because if you had, you'd know it hurts.

The baby has started grabbing on to my face and my "neck meat." She hasn't found my eyebrows yet, but it's only a matter of time.

I agree with MisfitBlondes re: the BFred avatar.

Jennifer Tilly still looks pretty good. She's dating a professional poker player, Phil Laak, and consequently she plays a lot of tournament events, and various other TV events because of her name. Unfortunately, she doesn't seem to be very good:

CONUNDRUM:

Me and the missus have tickets for Belle and Sebastian on October 3, Sunday, down in Los Angeles. It's about a six-hour drive for us, but we both dearly love them, so it should be a lot of fun. And it'll be a nice chance to get away for the day. The plan was to go down on the day of, and then drive part of the way back that night, and then come home the following day and take a half-day from work. My mom has already agreed to watch the baby, so we're all set.

Then comes the announcement today that RKade Fire is playing locally, at the Greek Theatre...on October 2. The Greek is a beautiful outdoor venue (link to those hippies Phish playing it here), and AF played here their last time around and it was epic. Honestly, it's way too small for them given their current stature, but apparently they are huge fans of the place, so there you have it.

Anyway, I mention this to my wife this morning, and she just completely shoots down the idea of going. She says she doesn't want to get a babysitter for both days of the weekend, which is reasonable, but there are plenty of people we know that would be willing to do it.

So do I:

a) skip it

b) try to work the angle of finding someone else to watch her, even though she's already shot it down

c) just ask if I can go and she can stay home with the baby

d) Bring the baby along, since it'll be outdoors and probably fairly manageable if we sit up high enough

I think you'd regret missing Arcade Fire at the Greek. Figure out a way to do it.

Got home and I'm not paying attention to what Mr. krista4 has on TV, and I hear "Leeeeeeeeeeeet, the river run" and I say "Oooooh, Working Girl".

Mr. krista4 is fascinated that I've ever heard of this movie and has no idea what it is. Doesn't understand the whole concept of it and keeps asking me questions.

Perils of marrying someone quite a bit younger. How can anyone not know Working Girl????
Who what?
That might not have had the right verbs.Anyway, anyone would know this movie, much like Overboard I guess, except Mr. krista4.

Still watching it, BTW. He still doesn't understand why this was a big deal at the time.
I have no idea what movie you're talking about.
Yeah, definitely pretty obscure, having won an Oscar (for the song referenced above) and been nominated for several more and all, including Best Picture.
You just made me IMDB Working Girl. HOW THE EFF did this anything about this movie get nominated? Melanie Griffith for Best Actress? Sigourney Weaver and Joan Cusack for Best Supporting Actress? BEST PICTURE?I honestly feel like my head is going to explode.

ETA:

One of these things is not like the other:

1989 Best Actress Nominees:

Meryl Streep - A Cry in the Dark

Sigourney Weaver - Gorillas in the Mist

Yeah, I changed my avatar to shiny's on the anniversary of his death. When I did it, I was going to keep it up for a month. It was weird to see it at first, but it was strangely cathartic. It's been way over a month now, and I knew I should probably change it back, but it's one of those things that I just didn't want to do, like cleaning out a couple dozen PMs from him at LABS. They actually gave me a bigger PM inbox instead, which was appreciated.

Jesus, that's pretty awful.

Why you gotta be like that? You're the one who asked the question. If you aren't looking for an honest answer, don't ask next time. I'm not trying to be an ### (although I know it often happens effortlessly). I'm just saying your husband isn't the only one who doesn't know this movie. It didn't even ring a bell to me by name.So I looked ut up on imdb. I remember seeing trailers for it, but I'm certain I never saw the movie. To be fair, I was 14 when it came out. And without knowing anything about it at all, it looks an awful damn lot like a chick flick. And I'd just as soon punch out an eardrum as listen to Melanie Griffith speak.

Naturally Alabama football message boards are filled with JeebusGuys, so my contention that Glen Coffee showing up to training camp supposedly ready to play only to leave because he wanted to begin his ministry was a "flake out" is not being well received. I'm not sure how to change that run-on sentence, but what say you? My argument is "if he wanted to become a Buddhist monk, I wouldn't be alone in that thought." Apparently you can't flake out for Jesus.

I agree with you. I think it's fine to retire, especially from football, but doing it post-draft and post-free agency leaves your team in a bad spot (Barry Sanders> hi).

Seems like a flake out to me. If that's what he wanted to do, why spend the off-season in the Bay area working out and putting on good weight?

TRE -> I am heading to DeMori's tonight. I will look for you.
TRE -> I am not at DeMori's. I am at Duke's. See you soon, GB.
Meat raffle in effect?
No, but I won a hunny on pull tabs.
Also won a stuffed tiger on the claw machine.Pretty big night.
This is what has taken over the drunk thread?

Of course the book is much better.
Don't be that guy.
What guy? The guy that reads?
I think he means the guy that says the book is much better than the film. There are some cases where the film is better. I thought Silence of the Lambs was one instance, although every other book by Thomas Harris was better than the crap movie. Another one was The English Patient. I know that most people hate it, but I actually liked it. The book was completely unreadable, and I truly mean that. Impossibly terrible. Ontaatje has this fascination with describing the winds of the Sahara (which have their own names) with great detail.I'd tried to subject myself to Pride and Prejudice on a few occasions, you know, to better understand the female mind, but I've only made about 1/4 of the way through on two attempts. It's insufferable the way Jane Austen writes. She spends so much time telling you about gossip and peoples' standing in society. The A&E miniseries was actually quite good.Anyone read Tim Crochets book prologue yet?

Don't be that guy.
What guy? The guy that reads?
The "the book was way better" guy. Look, I know you're a fairly intelligent guy so I'll give you a pass this time, but typically when people say this in conversation it's pretty obvious they're saying "HEY LOOK AT ME I READ BOOKS".Plus, when has the book ever not been better than the movie?
