GM's thread about nothing (24 Viewers)

We got an e-mail from St. Louis Small Business Monthly a few minutes ago, my/our company is named top 3 in customer service in the city. We find out if we are #1 at a luncheon October 20th.I mentioned we were top 25 in another thread in the begginning of the year and I'm sure you guys were dying for an update.
I take it you don't deal with customers?
Why do you say that?TF, thanks. :thumbup:SID :lmao:

Also, can some of you guys help me in my auction draft tonight? We start at 6 pacific.
You've got me on speed dial, no?
I do.I'd like to write about last night, but I'm not sure my memory will flow to my hands the way the beer flowed through my liver. My day started with beers by noon and ended on a strange couch with a busted flip-flop. I may have ridden a motercycle at some point.I also think I climbed a tree.

:yawn:You wouldn't believe how much of that kind of stuff we sell.

I'd be down for a few cases but after the whole "Gross of Candy Cigarettes Fiasco of '03" they don't let me near purchase orders.

I was thinking of getting a chat going.Who are some good values to target relative to Yahoo!'s "average" prices?
Should be available on chat. I'm honestly not much of an auction guy. Should check with Otis. He's been absolutely destroying shark pool threads for the last week.

I need to party with GM at some point in my life. I'm guessing we would end up in jail though.

I've really never been very good at anything my entire life.

The only first place trophy I ever won was in bowling. Of course they found out after the championship game that I was keeping the score wrong all year.

Even if you can only recall 15 to 20% of this, it will be worth it to share. Honestly, anything more than that will be gravy. (which reminds me..... God I love gravy!)

We went to my fiancee's family reunion this weekend. Part of the festivities was a scramble at a podunk course in the middle of Nowheresville, WI. I was part of the last group with the organizer of the event. He was shticking it up pretty fierce, announcing each person as they teed off on the first hole.

Katie's deaf uncle is third to go. The organizer says, "Quiet on the tee please"

Katie's dad yells "It doesn't effing matter! BLAAAAAAAAH"

I almost pissed myself

:lmao: at GM, SLB

ETA: GD it, Samuel has the same initials as St. Louis Bob. Now what?

I'm worn out and I think I'm getting sick. Sucks. Fun weekend at the beach though and I'm getting closer and closer to moving there. Boating on the intercostal, parking at an empty beach... friends, sun, water, tunes, drink, etc. I've already convinced myself it's going to happen, but now I just have to put it into action. My business sucks here and if I'm going to start over, I'm doing it there. Oh, fishing finally opened up in the Gulf again, so it has that going for it too.

Hopefully VTech can milk the clock away here and people can shut up about Boise. I give them credit for a great game played, but this would be a disaster for college football. Letting some team play a big game at the front end of the season, a trash schedule in between, and then allowing them to play for it all... it would just be a terrible precedent to set. Ugh, here comes the punt team and we have to sweat it out.

Do you guys want to know what's really fun about a baby that has acid reflux really bad? It never sleeps. Ever. If one of us hold him he'll sleep for about 45 consecutive minutes, and every so often in the middle of the night he'll go for 2 hours at a time, but in general he's awake. Always. And not "awake and quite and being cute and looking around." I mean "awake and whining and/or crying." This is seriously brutal. Nobody is sleeping, so everybody is crabby. I'm having so much fun.

On the bright side, earlier today when Benny was whining my 2.5 year old daughter Abby walked over to him, put her hand on his cheek all lovingly, and said, "Stop whining. It hurts my ears."

I think I laughed for an hour.

Frosty> sorry you're feeling so exhausted. I haven't been through it myself, but have close friends who have been through pretty much exactly what you're going through. Now - you go hug that baby.

Well, ####. Great game by Boise. Now we have to hear the noise all season which, while earned this week, won't be the following 11 weeks.

Hang in there Frosty.

To be fair, they have a hard time getting teams to play them.Maybe they can just replace WSU in football only in the Pac-12? They're pretty close distance-wise, right?

I don't really follow FF, is this any good? PPR, Flex spot, 10 teams.

Will answer yours. WR's were going for insane prices (Johnson 42, Fitzgerald 30, etc.) which is why I kind of got left out in the cold there. But I have good RB depth, at least.

Code:
Jahvid Best	$34
Frank Gore	$46
Hakeem Nicks	$13
Tony Romo	$12
Pierre Thomas	$16
Malcom Floyd	$11
Michael Bush	$4
Marques Colston	$21
C.J. Spiller	$12
Pierre Garcon	$7
Jason Witten	$11
Reggie Bush	$9
Lawrence Tynes	$1
Dallas	$1
Mike Williams	$1
Kareem Huggins	$1

As stated not much of an auction guy but I like both Bush's at their price, Higgins and Williams for a buck, Garcon, Floyd, Witten and Romo all seem like decent value.Bottom line:

* With great inseason management, Clifton thinks you have about a 99 percent chance of making the playoffs.

* With good inseason management, Clifton thinks you have about a 90 percent chance of making the playoffs.

* With average inseason management, Clifton thinks you have a 81 percent chance of making the playoffs.

It's a tough spot, but they play in a conference with the other teams either being really crappy, or putting it together for 1 game every 3-4 years. You can't predict any of that, but they are pretty much guaranteed 10 wins a season when they have a decent team.Florida State went anywhere at anytime to play anyone and won doing so. You don't get home and homes with big time programs because they don't want to travel to the middle of no where and play in stadiums no one knows. That doesn't sell to alumni. You don't know what you're going to get with Boise either as schools like Alabama, Texas, Ohio State and others set this up years in advance. Are you going to be playing a supposed national title contender or a typical WAC school no one gives you credit for beating? You can't tell that 5 years out. That's also the problem for Boise and getting into these season openers in Dallas or Atlanta. If they get set-up more clearly as key games, big schools are going to be scheduled further in advance. They could get in them now with the scheduling being set-up on a year to year basis, but could you imagine walking into Jerry Jones' office and proposing he set-up a TCU/Boise match-up 3 years out? He'd laugh you out of the building. The other problem, even if they were dead set on playing on the road all the time... Ohio State, Alabama, etc. play teams like Marshall, San Jose State, and other schools hundreds of thousands of dollars to play a single, no return match-up game. These games are set-up on a year to year basis at times, but the problem is that these smaller conferences are starting to require this price if their member schools do such a thing. No one is going to pay Boise $100k to come to their house in a year like this. ***I don't know if this is a stipulation in the WAC, but I know a couple of these smaller conferences have started setting up such rules.***I wish I could love Boise. I do respect what they have been able to do. I just can't agree with any argument which has them in the national title game considering what other teams have to face. They get their super bowl to start the season, play pretty much no one the rest of the year, and are supposed to be allowed another super bowl to finish? They have Oregon State in between and the Beavers aren't that great, but I'd love it if they had to face 3-5 more teams as good as Oregon State the rest of the year, especially in some back to back scenarios. Alabama has to face that, and even worse in a COUPLE of different stretches, but Boise has no such concerns.Oh well. Here's to an annoying year. I think I'm going to pull for Ohio State to go undefeated along with Alabama and hopefully not have to worry about it.

Watching Anthony Bourdain after smoking trainwreck and drinking Belgian. That last episode in France had my stomach growling. Jesus I love food.

All good points, of course. Obviously, this isn't a problem if there's a playoff. The BSU Conundrum is merely a symptom of the larger, obvious problem. If I had a vote, and it came down to an unbeaten major conference team facing either an undefeated BSU (that had no trouble with it's in-conference opponents) or a one-loss major conference team, I'd consult professional linesmakers. Which team would fare better?

Alabama would be favored, as would any other BCS conference school. The line might even be approaching double digits.Virginia Tech is one of the most well respected programs when it comes to special teams. Boise went all out and confused even them more than a couple of times during that game. If Alabama has a trip to Arizona with Boise on the slate, Alabama is probably going to be focusing on not making mistakes as they will probably beat Boise if not having a lot of errors. Boise, on the other hand, is going to throw the kitchen sink at Alabama in such a match-up, and as they say, the ball isn't round. Would it be exciting? It certainly was tonight. Does it really decide who the best team is? I don't think so.It probably wouldn't surprise anyone to learn I think the NCAA basketball tourney is too much. Do we really figure out who the best team in the country is if/when a #1 seed gets knocked out by a 16 seed some year in the future? I say no. It would be fun to talk about for a week though. :lmao: 32 teams would be nice. Having the 16 best teams fight it out for the championship would be better. Less is more, at least when talking about quality.

But 64 (or 65, or 68 teams or whatever it is) is genius because it gives everyone at least a chance of winning the national title. There's an avenue. For small-conference teams and their fans, just getting to the dance is their realistic goal. There's room enough for the teams that win their small conferences, as well as the good major conf. teams. The same can't be said of CFB in its current form. It is somewhat arbitrary who wins the CBB national title, of course, but that's part of the excitement. Duke was certainly in the top-tier of teams this year, but they weren't THE best. But there's really no other way to settle these things other than on the court, and there's not enough time for a best-of-5 series. They managed to not screw up, whereas other more talented teams (KU, UK) did.* MLB is even worse. The Twins won a WS in the 1980's with a team that was outscored in the regular season. The Cardinals won a WS with an 85 (?) win team. Luck happens, and it stinks sometimes, but there's no other way of doing things, really. Best of 21 series?* - That said, Duke was inexplicably placed in the easiest bracket in 2010, with an ice-cold 'Nova team at #2, and a #4 Purdue that had lost its best player in the season in Purdue. Whether via bias or incompetence, this is a real problem with the NCAA.

Going into the basketball tournament last year, no team seeded 32nd or worse had ever gotten to the Final 4. I don't think that changed this season either. Sure, it's an exciting event, but the first 2 rounds are background noise.

Hmm, I knew I should've looked that one up. I tried going on the fly there with an argument I hadn't discussed in well over 6 months.

Who's excited for the Lingerie Football League on MTV?

Apparently, they're only 30 minute show/games, which seems pretty short. But I only need like 73 seconds anyway... win!!!

Is this the ol' jeep hates the playoff system argument being rehashed in GM thread form?

Anyone getting loaded tonight?
 Waiting to get out of work and head to Chicago for the weekend. Party tonight. Possibly wake up and get to the Cubs game that I already have tickets for tomorrow afternoon. Party tomorrow.
Long story short(ish). Get to Chicago around 9pm Friday night. My buddy had free use of a clients condo right on State and Division - sweet! Get ready to go and head out immediately. We go to several bars, and I end up doing shots, which based on my previous experience, tends to not be a good idea. Around 4 in the morning, we decide to head back. But wait, a pizza place is calling my name. I stand in line and somehow manage to order a full pizza (they sold by the slice, but apparently we thought we were hungry?). No idea how long it take to make said pizza, but I do know that eventually I got it. The downside of that, is that my buddy decided to just go on without me. So here I am, in the middle of Chicago, holding a huge pizza, bombed out of my mind. I try to call him, but of course his phone is dead. No big deal though, because I'm relatively sure I know how to get back to the condo. So I start walking. I don't know where I walked, but I know several times I dropped the pizza. I tried my best to scoop as much of the pizza off the street  and back into the box, meanwhile, I had 2 pieces in my other hand and was gnawing at that. I continue to 'walk' and come across a little 2 foot fence by the sidewalk. Generally, this is used to keep people from crossing the street. But, I was pretty sure I needed to cross the street. I figured I could take this tiny fence. Needless to say, this was a bad decision. I tripped over the fence, pizza was flying everywhere, and I have several cuts and bruises...a few of which probably needed medical attention. At this point, I am hoping against all hope that this does not end up on youtube. So based on my cell phone records, it looks like I wandered Chicago looking for our condo for an hour from about 4:45am until I got to the condo around 5:45. Turns out, it's only about a 5 minute walk. :bag: Unfortunately, once I finally did make it back, it is behind a locked gate. Now somehow, I managed to buzz the right condo, but of course, my 'buddy' had passed out and didn't hear it. Right about then, I was freezing and about to look for an alley and a cardboard box to cover up with. I wandered and called for another half hour before I decided to pray that the valet guys would let me crash in his car. I stumbled my way in there, and begged the valet to let me in, and to his credit, I was asleep on the passenger seat somewhere around 7am. At 10, I get a call from my friend asking me where the hell I was. :football: He finally lets me in and is shocked at the bruise on my elbow and the gash and cut on my knee and calf. As am I. I managed another 2 hours of sleep before I somehow woke up (and had to wake him up) to try and make it to some of the Cubs game. Was going to take it slow (and did), until we went to Murphy's after the game and an amazing girl came out of nowhere and told me that she wanted to buy me a shot.
